Topic: ISG Ireland trip

G’day Styles,

I’m planning on being in Ireland in mid-late March for my brothers wedding (his fiance is Irish) and will be there for about a fortnight. Will definitely have my sticks as we’re flying over on a round-the-world ticket so will be visiting continental Europe and US on the trip as well. If the idea does go ahead and ends up being late March, please let me know.

Also, any suggestions for courses to play around Co. Sligo as that is where we’ll be based initially?

Scarlett,

Some great courses in that part of the world! The fantatstic Rosses Point is right beside Sligo. A little further is another fantastic course Enniscrone. Those two alone will make your trip even more memorable. You could also look at some of the great links courses of Donegal such as Murvagh, Ballyliffen or Rosapenna.

You’ll have a blast either way. Castle Dargan is also in the area. Let me know where you will be staying and playing and I can help you further.

Not a definite but interested none the less. Will keep this in mind, particularly if it fits in with a US tour talked about by Lag.

The Scottish Open is terrific – a great course for spectators and a strong field.

As for access to non-Open courses during that week, I would suggest you contact the ones you wish to play and enquire.

Topic: Lift & clean

Rule 21 – Cleaning Ball

A ball on the putting green may be cleaned when lifted under Rule 16-1b. Elsewhere, a ball may be cleaned when lifted, except when it has been lifted:

a. To determine if it is unfit for play (Rule 5-3);
b. For identification (Rule 12-2), in which case it may be cleaned only to the extent necessary for identification; or
c. Because it is assisting or interfering with play (Rule 22).

If a player cleans his ball during play of a hole except as provided in this Rule, he incurs a penalty of one stroke and the ball, if lifted, must be replaced.

So unless he was allowed to lift the ball for another legal reason not listed above (eg preferred lies, embedded ball, moved by outside agency…), no cleaning.

A ball is considered on the putting green when any part of it touches it, btw.

Interested here too – will be going to Canada for the Police and Fire Games in August 09, then the intent is a rail trip across Europe – depends on dates and stuff – great idea!

Political Correctness is doctrine fostered by a delusional minority and by the media, which holds forth the proposition it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Impossible – it’s only an opinion, not a fact!

SNIOP

Ditty

small geography lesson. Last I checked there isn’t a train out of Canada that goes to Europe. Just thought I would give you the heads up on that one!!! Probably only a minor issue.

Styles,

Will throw my hat is as well. I will be in Europe in late May/Early June 09 (maybe longer if I hang around for the Ashes cricket). Will be based in London, but only a hop and skip over to Ireland. Missed Ballybunion and Royal Portrush on my last visit.

Cheers, Malvern

Depending on price and dates, I would be very interested.
Sounds like a fantastic idea. I have just recently met a person who runs a specific golf tours business. Might be worth having a look at the website and having a chat with him to see if he can help.

Ok, good to know there is a bit of interest.

I’ll get a ballpark figure for a 15-20 day trip.

Have got long service due in June so would def be interested in a July August trip. The other half loves Dublin and we have talked about going back and seeing a bit more so even if she didn’t want to bring her clubs I am sure she would be happy as belting down a pint or 12

Fantastic idea Styles. I am semi-retired and very interested. However it’s a long way to (Tipperary!) for just a week – I would prefer a bit longer – at least 15 days.

My wife (born and bred in Dublin) always uses the adage of April showers bring forth May rains.

I recall the May rains when last there. Not sure if I recall if it stopped raining in 2 weeks.

Take your wet weather gear.

I also like the idea, have been wanting to have a golfing holiday, the missus would probably be keen too, and she does play golf

But like gribbles, very advance warning would be needed to organise time off from work and budget

Brilliant Idea.

I unfortunately would not be able to participate in the next couple of years due to family obligations – but a brilliant idea all the same. Good luck with it
