Brett,
Grab your pitching wedge, get another club rest the grip against the club face so it’s pointing to the target. lift the shaft of wedge up keeping the wedges clube face square, you’ll see the shaft on the face is pointing right, when you lower wedge the shaft on the face is pointing left.
Brett lie angle is the most important thing, to measure lie angle correctly, use a lieboard , and hit shots off a lieboard, to find out where your hands are at impact, this tells true lie angle.
Find a guy who fits outdoors, you can see with your own eyes, with good ball flight, you have the right shaft flex, mark is in the centre of the sole of the club and ball is going straight, you know your lie angle is right. Mate what ever you do,don’t go to a big name retail shop, they will tell you anything and you can’t see ball flight.
They use cheaper L,M’s and tweak them up so you think you hit the ball further.

Doppler radars are found in most of the LMs these days. flightscope, Trackman and Zelocity units.

100,000 Pings a second gives a pretty accurate reading.

that is 100,000 pings a second in the swath, that is not as great as it sounds, depending on the resolution that may still only be a few hundred pings a second on each segment.
still extremly accurate tho

It means each dimple on the ball gets pinged to ‘see’ the motion.

that could be an interpretation of it,
the spin on a ball is measured by the relative velocity of each edge of the ball there is no need for the ball to have dimples
I suspect these radars if they truly are Doppler would be using K band which would not have the resolution to pick up individual dimples

He would be one of “the” best in the world. I can forgive Bio that one:) The point was Tiger trusts someone who he can beat the pants off on course to design and make his coz he cannot do it from a blank bit of paper.

Brett,
For the average why not the average, incorrect clubs effects all players, They was research conducted and finding were clubs off the suited 8% of golfer through out the world, we document and record every fit and my stats have been 5% of golfers standard clubs off the rack suited golfers. This was out of 3000 golfers.
Brett for majority of average golfers incorrect clubs are causing swing problems, people using incorrect equipment use compensations.
Average golfers needed the right equipment as much as tour players.

Another outstanding assertion.

Who is the best club maker in the world?

Read a story last year that Tiger got 4-5 drivers from Nike to test, supposedly same weight and swing weight, just slight variences in COG and shaft profile.

He got back and said “I like the heavy one”, the Techs looked at him wondering what he meant as they were all the same weight, upon reweighing them one club was a couple of grams heavier and that was the one he was after. The man is definately in tune with him equipment.

SENSATIONAL Topic…timarnold should get a prize for raising this in the first place….how about an update from tim on how his driving is going now….or he might be too afraid just in case WW4 starts.

BTW, there is no mention of a doppler radar or the machine that goes ‘PING’...surely they should get a run…

Ohhh and I know that this post has not provided any assistance to the topic at hand but I felt left out :)

Brett0509,
Nike hired the best club maker in the world, to build a set of irons woods liked, the club maker said it took him 2 and 1/4 years to put the right components together before woods would use Nike irons.

Brett0509: Yeah the thread got sidetracked as many do. Some opinions are worth more than others as always.

Tiger is has well tuned his equipment to his swing. He is more scientific in his approach than many on Tour.

There is a diff between over complication and missing out on what you have in your own physical effort and how that connects to what is in your bag. I love KISS. KISS can only be had at when it is not form a state of ‘ignorance’ – and that phrase is not aimed at anyone before heckles get raised:)

I dislike ignorance as it ain’t bliss!

ignorance = unawareness, lack of knowledge, untaught state.

Without knowing what drives what how far, it would be ‘ignorant’ to assume you have the right stuff in your bag. It might be costing you shots.

All I am saying is Golf isn’t that complicated, it’s all about getting the ball in the hole in as fewer shots as possible. At least it was the last time I looked.

I firmly believe golfers have a tendancy to overcomplicate things. KISS….

For those who think that ballistics are a crock, there are many an industry worth billions that use these measuring type devices and maths to model them.

There are optimal levels for launch in a windless environment and also into and down wind. Knowing your staring point is better than a guess at it.

I’ve just read through this whole crock and would like to say one thing.

When I hit a driver low, it rolls further, I like that….when I hit a driver high it stops quicker, I like that too…rotfl…..

golfguy,
your right, and give me the sh*ts that people can themselves a fitter, by fitting indoors using an L.M and hitting into a net.
I use an L.M as a guide. I fit out doors and let ball flight do the talking for me.

I stopped reading this a while back, but am now wondering if launch monitors and even to an extent club fitting are a waste of time.

Might just make sure I get on a lie board next time, sounds like there may be some self fulfilling philosophies around.

Given the correct use of LM technology and forget the w factor figures and B/S that bio is pushing, LMs are very helpful in the fitting but should not be the end of the conversation.
If the fitter is only using the results that are driven by the computer/software then they are not doing the full job for the customer. LM facts and figures are only one piece of the fitting puzzle.
Jon…
