Topic: Golf Talk / How long can you drive
my carry is generally quite depressing because of the height/trajectory of my drive. I tee up using an 8cm tee on the outside of my left/front foot and it almost comes to a dead stop when it hits the fairway. Because of the height i get i can generally cut corners over trees even if theyre close to the tee…which i suppose in a way is pretty bad because if there is a strong headwind id be lucky to hit 250m |

Topic: Golf Talk / How long can you drive OK well i have been writing down every distance of the ones that make it onto the fairway (inc the duffs i still seem to do) and out of 128 tee shots with a driver i average 269.42 Shortest being -3m lol and longest being 364m (but that was down hill… longest on a flat/uphill was 352m) I was going to enter the RE|MAX long drive this year but because of my accuracy issues dont know if i should bother… Club – MacGreggor NVG2 Pro 10deg, Stiff flex and Std length |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Moulded grips? Is it ok to use a grip that is moulded to your hand? ie. like getting a massive chunk of play-doh and squeezing it fills in between your fingers and leaves BMX style grip? Dunno if that makes any sense… just thinking to stop any form of club movement and to help maintain the same grip everytime? |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / I have struck driving gold. After all the issues ive been having with accuracy lately with my drive it seemed to have got worse, i think because i had been listening to too many people and had too many things going through my head at the tee. So like you i decided to throw caution to the wind and just unwind… result… less slice, lots of distance and no more hooks. Still not perfect… infact far from it, but better and no more having to worry about which way it was going to go this time. One thing i will say, trying to slow my swing down was probably the worse thing i tried, it was all over the place. More time to think of whats happening during the swing and trying to monitor too many things at once i spose rather then having a clear mind. |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Lowering the trajetory of my driver. Why is a lot of height such a bad thing? I always launch extremely high with my driver (NVG2 Tour 10 degree), and it comes in so handy. So many courses i play on around here have massive trees near the tee and on a number of dog leg holes i just launch over them and cut the hole in half or more. Is it really beneficial to get roll from the driver? Even with the height i get i still get massive distance without a lot of added distance from the bounce. |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Video Camera And you wont have to unless you really want to start getting into some involved video editing.. i use Multiple programs for video editing (i used to do a lot of car club track days, but dont any more thanks to now being married and having a baby and no time to go to track days anymore)... Adobe Premiere Pro is great for editing… even menial programs such as the standard Windows Movie Maker has its uses. As for cameras… get the best one you can (read a lot of reviews online) within your budget… theyre pretty much all the same, most peoples views are based on personal preference. |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Video Camera I downloaded Cswing and it doesnt seem as in depth (well the trial version anyway). I dont have desktop items and i have 2 screens so it should only take over one of them. And when you say the others are better, in what way compared to V1? |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Swing Vid SO that explains why when i tried to tee it up on the outside of my left foot it hooked… and as i gradually moved it back it became straighter or had a slight slice on it at the end… so basically my wrists are rolling over at the same point every time? Is that what it means |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Video Camera Serious? i would have thought it would be 10x better… especially when you can record 5+ hours at a time rather then 60mins. I already have a minidv cam but i find minidv annoying… especially with how long the tapes last before they quality drops. Agree with the MAC thing… always prefered macs… cousin and 2 uncles are all GD’s and have at least 4 of them. OS-X = awesome |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Video Camera Anyone would be good wouldnt it? Is there anything in particular your after styles? as in certain features? I know my next video camera will be either a JVC or Canon HiDef HDD. The RRP on these is way higher then what you can get them for… Recording directly to a HDD means its extremely easy to upload the data to a PC or Laptop using a USB cable… |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Swing Vid This was taken before i went through the swing fix guide and got some pointers from the site in my other thread. The hands thing i still dont quite get… nor the feel… i just do what feels natural to me… which is the obvious problem… at least with my dads huge slice he knows hes going to slice and can adjust his aim for it. My launch is so irratic its near impossible to set myself up to aim properly. My irons have improved to no end with the swing fix and i thought my drive had too when i went to the driving range, but when i played on sunday it was the same. Was still getting great distance… only into the trees, i think i only hit 3 fairways and one of them was after rebounding off a tree :) It wasnt a huge slice, just a slight tail at the end when it was getting to the highest point. I see what you mean about lifting toolish, just after impact… what sort of effect would that have on the ball? |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Flies My Dad and I have been using that OFF stuff… seems to work reasonably… but doesnt keep them from having a go at you. Worst course we were on for flies was Beaconhills Country Club… its like they know as soon as you put both hands on your club to swing, thats the time to attack! Getting seriously peeved at them lately… its shocking how many are around at the moment. Someone told me they heard on the news it was because out in the country or something the dung beetles havent been breeding or something and not breaking all the cow/animal crap down and so the flies have had uber amounts of crap to breed in. No idea if its true or not but i think i will go out for my next round dressed in a bee keepers or HAZMAT suit… My dads idea was to stick a terd in a pot puri bag and tow it about 2m behind the buggy so they hang around that all day. |

Topic: Golf Talk / MGA - Melbourne Golf Academy I went the other day during my lunch break and it was a fantastic range but the only thing it didnt have, unless i didnt look properly (which i didnt i spose), was a grass tee section. I hate using the driver from the mats. But the facilities were awesome, no doubt about it. |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / New golfer... good distance... shocking aim Which is what i always do… as i said a few times i was deliberately trying to smash the balls to bits, as you do when your on a driving range for a bit of fun, but my usual swing is probably only about 75% of full swing |

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Woodlands - membership question I am looking at that club at the moment myself… fees seem very reasonable (im in the same category) when you compare it to other semi private clubs. Its only 1400ish for us with a 200ish joining fee which is spread over 5 years if you want and you can also pay your subs monthly too which works out at around 150 a month to play as much as you like at one of the top 5 clubs in Vic. Compare that to somewhere like Keysborough or Kingston Links (which is a public course) and it works out about the same but i have heard those clubs are no where near as good. |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / New golfer... good distance... shocking aim ok i went down to the driving range today to practice my setup etc and try and get my line right and after going through all the steps from this site i would say out of the ones i wasnt deliberately trying to hit the back wall with (MGA is about 350m) at least 75% were going straight or within an acceptable range of straight. Its hard to tell with the sun coming down and a lot of cloud cover exactly how far they were going, but easily over the 280 mark with the ones that were going straight. I was a little apprehensive using the driver on those mats though because the tees were no where near as high as my tees are so i was scared of topping them, but none were topped. Now im looking forward to tomorrow mornings back 9 and Sundays game at Waverly Public. Oh also seem to be hitting my irons much sweeter as well thanks to the Fix Your Swing articles on this site. Was letting the club decide where i would address the ball from and hitting them much better and much more accurately. I had a goal of averaging in the 90s on a Par72 after 6 months, im already doing that now after 6 weeks… (last 3 games, since coming on this site, have been 98, 99 and 95. Before coming on here was 115, 111 and 109) I think the only other way for me to improve further is to get some one on one time with a coach now to get me to my next goal which i wanted to achieve in 12 months. So thanks to everyone on here! Glad i found this site |
