Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Paul Hurrion Putting Awesome What’s the big difference to Yes putters? The hardest thing for me to get into my skull is trusting the alignment of the putter head once I’m over the ball (it looks like I’m aiming too far left). Of course, when I don’t trust it, I miss the putt. I am usually good at alignment. Did Paul have anything to say about how the brain can be brought into sync with a mechanical stick man? |

Topic: Rules of Golf / Casual Water What colour markers are used for the “this is NOT a water hazard”? Green? I’m on Pom’s side particularly at his course, The Willows. It would be almost unplayable if this rule was taken literally. |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / 300fps : Fairway Bunker Shot 101 Guru, my pro has me working on the “beach ball between the knees” thought – I’ve had several knee ops and they tend to bow out. To get stability I’ve been more inclined to keep my back foot less splayed which gives me more tension (more athletic?) and this seems to achieve a more stable platform – but my backswing is shorter. Of course I don’t have Blade’s flexibility but I’m still belting the ball much further than ever before. Blade’s setup and finish are an inspiration as I haven’t seen a better example of controlled power which I can emulate (at least in my mind). I can watch Tiger or Ernie all day but their swings are on another planet to my approach. |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Breaking tees When I play a few holes with my pro he never uses a tee for irons, just jabs the blade into the turf to create a small grass tee. Tee going backwards? If you hit the ball properly (not the tee) with the club head travelling downwards then there would be a forward and downward force on the tee – given that the bottom half is embedded in the ground, there is an equal and opposite force created which would cause the tee to rise and fly backwards. I’ll take questions on the meaning of life at a later date. |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / 300fps : Fairway Bunker Shot 101 Blade That back foot of yours looks to be pointed slightly forward on setup. You look flexible enough to still get a long coil so is this a deliberate way of keeping lots of control through the backswing? ... or is it the camera angle (and if so I’ll go away quietly)? |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Breaking tees Those plastic wedge tees fly out of the ground and go many yards from the tee box when I use them. I lose them after a few holes – and I use them when I find them (other people’s) as they must have the same problem. |

Topic: Ask Bruce / Technique for ball plugged in sand?? My pro showed me a sand shot that pros use in the most difficult of buried lies … shut the face down to the point where the face is more than 45 degrees closed – hit it hard as there is a fair bit of resistance. A heap of sand comes out and so does the ball … every time. Ever played with a bloke or woman who can’t get out of a bunker to save their life? Show them this shot and it’s like a miracle. Not much control though. |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / The Blade at The Cut, Slow Motion Extreme Guru Blade’s back leg looks to be “pre-loaded” – almost to the point of restricting his turn (I am dabbling with this concept with my woods and seems to be giving results – seeing my own swing dr. on Friday so will also discuss with him). Am I seeing things or can you explain what advantage he’s getting. It is an awesome swing BTW and he must be one of the longest hitters on the tour. |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Had 2 shockers in club champs 90 and 91..what do I do? Mate, I won the club championship this year off 21 beating plenty off single figures. In the final round (seeded), in windy conditions, I couldn’t believe how these guys fell apart under pressure. I had to play 10 shots better than my hcap to get into a playoff but plugged away without expectation. Haven’t done much since as achieved my 5 year goal in the 1st few month of my comeback – but I did win the pairs championship last month. My current form is that of a 30 hcapper but I know if I knuckle down I can get the form back. Just gotta stick to the basics which my coach drilled into me earlier in the year. |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Balance What? Bare feet?!? I play beach golf with the kids all the time and this does not make any difference to my finish – but I’m very good out of hardpan fairway bunkers. What does, is making sure I’m in balance and in control of what I’m about to do before pulling the trigger. When I hit a bad shot it almost always relates to an uncomfortable address position – not confidently committing to what I have to do. And it only takes 3-4 bad shots in a round to blow your score out 10+ shots. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Are golf trophies an anachronism? Some golf clubs (like mine) have trophies for every conceivable combination of events. So awards nights are long on prize giving. Recipients are given a choice of trophy or voucher and this was instigated because the main organiers usually won all the hardware so got jack of having to store trophies for meaningless events. If I was to start my own club I would only give out annual prizes for scratch events such as club singles and pairs club championship events (male, female and mixed) as too many handicap burglers exist for my liking (although the above suggestion – a handicap based monthly medal trophy for points gained over an entire season works for me). |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / The correct posture The thing about the “a* poking out posture” is you should get a real athletic feel to your swing as you have to use some of your athletic muscles in the legs, back and stomach to get set. For me, this converts to accurate shots with height and distance. |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / The correct posture aym, went through the same thing with my coach beginning of this year. My stomach muscles were working overtime to hold the posture you describe. But it quickly became normal and now I feel as though I effortless swing around my spine. I needed this change as I have an aging sore back and it has not been a problem of late. |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Playing Safe... Not I was going to suggest to hit a 5 iron just to keep it in play but in a matchplay game last Sunday at the 2nd, my opponent hit his drive out of bounds. So I thought “safety” and picked out my trusty 6-iron. Great swing and looked up to see it sailing out of bounds! WTF? Pressure is a killer. Postscript: He reloaded and did the same while I won the hole (and the match 8 and 7). |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Styles' journey to Scratch and beyond! Fantastic technology for youtube. A nice simple swing. For contrast, my 12yo son shot this photo of me the other evening on my Pentax at 1/1000. It takes 4 shots/second. I like it as it has the full moon rising from the trees (that’s the ball above it). |
