You’re different class Manu…why 99?

The difference between golf and the government is that in
golf you can’t improve your lie!

MANU obvious.
99 the year 1999 when Unted won the big treble.European cup, FA cup, EPL

Of course, how stupid of me….where were you when they won? I was in Barcelona outside the ground! I won a ticket on the radio but lost my passport…very long (funny) story….but stayed in Barcelona for a week after and had the biggest party…..Germans were crying in the street, it was hysterical!

The difference between golf and the government is that in
golf you can’t improve your lie!

I was in Perth watching on the TV. One of my mates was in Barca(his rego plate is BARCA 99) at the game . He rang me at some sleepy hour the next day to tell me of similar scenes you describe.
I did attend the 1968 final when we beat Benfica. BTW I once had a beer with paddy Crerand at his pub in Manchester he brought out his European medal to show me. They are very small medals.
Also an old mate of mine, Colin Irwin, played for Liverpool he also has a European winner medal.

played a bit with Colin Irwin when he was at Sorrento, he made it look so easy…..also seemed to spit a lot, must be a scouser thing

I am not sure precisely what he has done wrong, failed to be 100 percent excited about playing Bangladesh in Darwin and went fishing. Hang em high, Henno what an abomnible act. And to be dressed down in public by the little tosser Michael Clarke, puhlease. As a senior player he should get better treatment, maybe The Vic is right, there’s gotta be something more

so he signs a contract with Cricket Australia for a very nice annual salary plus other bonuses….part of the contract requires that he attend compulsory team meetings but he can’t be f…d because he’s got other things to do and somehow he’s been hard done by?

Topic: Golf Talk / Interstate Teams Series gets underway

It is great to have all these good and up and coming players but an article I read the other day made me think and I am sure it will make many people think. These players are baby-sitted by the various state associations, they get free tuition, their fee’s paid into various top line events, equipment and the list goes on. Do they pay any money back? No they do not. As soon as they think they are ready to turn pro, thanks very much and see you later to all of the free stuff they have received being in state teams. The article went on about and saying that these players should have to pay back money like a HECS payment. To me, that sounds fair. This will be interesting to see some comments for and against.

A friend of mine is in the WA team, works for living with a wife and child and plays for the pure enjoyment… the only baby sitting he gets is when nanna comes to look after his bub

Yep good idea for a forum – just need the greenkeepers to make it possible

Calling them ‘greenkeepers’ isn’t going to help. Believe me, I’ve been told in no uncertain terms a few times when I’ve referred to them as greenkeepers in articles I’ve written. Not a mistake I’ll make again.

One of the Golf Course Superintendent’s on here has an extremely embarrassing forum name & such a love of Iron Maiden that he probably doesn’t want the Superintendent’s Association to know who he is. :D

who is this person you talk about….

Topic: Golf Talk / The Demise Of Kennedy Bay

Ive just looked at the secret harbour website, cant find any info about membership. What are the costs for memebrship at secret harbour and what was membership at Kennedy Bay before it was closed?

Membership at Secret Harbour is based on pay per play, don’t know exact figures but it was around $150 per year. It probably has a waiting list as I was told a year ago that it was full.

unfortunately of course, unless you can get 1000 members to stump up $2000 a year, then you need the public, otherwise the economics dont stack up. And if the public dont want to play then we are back where we started

I presume the dunes constrain their ability to widen the fairways.

Is there anything they can do to make it less nasty. It will remain a problem as most other courses are clearing shit out to widen their courses, make them less intimidating while also reintroducing some angles back into the game. But KB and the Cut remain very tight with little room to move

I think their maybe some restrictions on vegetation clearing, and filling in bunkers doesnt seem to be an attractive option

If they make it similar pricing to Secret Harbour then they may stand a chance?

Topic: Golf Talk / The Demise Of Kennedy Bay

Kennedy is hard, but a lot of people make it a lot harder than it should be. It is not a course to bash driver around all day. As many balls as you lose, if you take a little time to look in the bushes, it can be goldmine for balls.

Mega, Hole 12, Finchy’s Folly (named after Ian Baker-Finch). A great, shot par four. Some many different ways to play the little beast.

Adlo,

I’ll keep you posted for sure.

Not bashing driver all day is okay for the members who now how to plot their way around, but the average joe who turns up and pays his green fee will hit driver on most holes and that’s where the problem is.

He plays it once, loses balls (a few up to lots), ends up in fairway bunkers where he’s coming out sideways or backwards, shoots lots and vows never to return.

As a members course its superb, but as a mixed use (members and daily fee) its going to struggle unless its made a little bit easier

Topic: Golf Talk / Caring for Greens

No, this is not another whinge about fixing pitchmarks! I am curious as what/why greens are cored (is that that what you call it when they take hundreds of plugs out about 5-10com deep and 1cm across?), and then putting heaps of sand on the green? Does this happen once or twice a year? And do they also use a smaller coring size more frequent?

thanks in advance

coring relives compaction and assists with drianage via the fresh sand put into the core holes. Generally its done twice per year with a half inch tyne but that can vary, a lot of courses now use solid needle tynes on a regular basis that opens up the surface but can be played on after rolling.

Anyone got a hole in one yet? I came aweful close.. 0.68 yards. Also anyone know what is meant by potential best?

1-L, it is all there my friend.

http://www.golflink.com.au/...

Potential best is your best score on each hole as a possible total, mines around 15 but at the moment I can’t get past 108. Hole in ones will come as you play more, I think I’m on 16 at the moment

Well, once again, Adam “The Myth” Scott gets off to a poor start in a major. Does anyone still think he’s the best player not to win a major?

that would be the Adam Scott that was crook for the entire WGC event last week and has played sweet FA since injuring his hand a few months ago?

Im in as Faldo, have_clubs gave a good summary of the game. I did alright last year and the key seemed to be a good defence (including defenders who may score a few) plus a good midfield, look for penalty takers as well. Strikers were’nt as important

How do you apply more spin on it?

the ball has a little dot on it, move it down to increase the spin and up to take it off. You can also change ball height via the stance control

a few tips

watch where the wind comes from, for example the first hole is a full PW with no spin at 5mph but as the wind drops you need to increase the spin rates

side winds have a big impact on 2 and 7 in particular, decide whether you want to change the direction or try and hit a hook/slice to counteract the wind

the club selected by the computer is not always the right one

I’ve been playing this for a while, best is 108 but have been as low as 55 with two to go. The 8th is a killer and still can’t figure it out.

As soon as you get a chance change to the pro clubs, takes a bit of getting used to but you can spin the ball a lot more and you take about a club less for each shot

If a course was originally couch and then got taken over by Kikuyu in some cases the couch is still underneath, spray out the Kikuyu and the couch reappears. Can definitley be done with selective chemical application.

If you want to keep Kikuyu, mow it low (8-10mm), keep the thatch levels down and use Primo from October to March and you can get a pretty good surface

well, with the greatest respect it is not all about how pretention. Places like LK, or RM or the Aus etc etc do not make themselves pretentious or prestigious, they are afforded these qualities by the outside public and in most cases it is not actually true. Of course there are wankers, but they are in the minority, it is more a question of value for money – LK is a damn sight better track than Gosnells, but probably costs the same to maintain on an annual basis – we keep the public out by paying higher fees (both joining and annual) which we are prepared to do because of the quality of the course. Members at Gosnells could also pay $3k a year and keep the plebs at bay, but presumably you do not feel it is worth it. Your choice.

Yep I agree with your comments.

The minority though have left a lasting impression in my mind. I do know a few members and they are great fellows. I would join if i had the money but i don’t(nomination fee), the big thing would be I would remember where I came from.

No your right I wouldn’t pay $3k for Gosnells, the thing is though i don’t think it is a money issue. I think the local authority has an agenda.

The City of Gosnells don’t have a public golf course and I would suggest are thus attempting (whether right or wrong) to provide ratepayers with some access to a golf course. They probably provide Gosnells GC with a discount to rates or a minimal annual rent and therefore feel that they’re decision has some merit

LK costs a truck more to maintain than any other course in Perth.
