Topic: Golf Equipment / Anyone use a Proforce V2?

i’ve compared it to a whole lot of different, same calibre shafts like the nv, vs proto, prolaunch red, diamana blueboard, graphalloy blue; even the graphalloy epic and the diamana whiteboard. The V2 is my pick of the lot in terms of feeling powerful, they feel about half as heavy as they are. A 66g V2 feels so much lighter that an aldila vs-proto 65. In terms of control you don’t feel AS in control as the other shafts, partly because you feel like you’re swinging it at 150 mph. Adam scott seems to use it to good effect, and if i was getting a new driver now i’d probably get it too. It doesn’t seem to be the lowest launch out of them all so i’d say its more likely to suit a serious amateur as opposed to a masters champion better than the other premium shafts out there.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Confusion over shafts

matt’s right, graphite will not be as accurate as steel. But you can get good graphite shafts in irons by all means. Because of your height i can tell you you want a stiff flex in them, because although reg will be easier on the hands and get the ball up a bit easier, if you’re 6’1” you’re bound to generate some swing speed, whether you swing it like an axe or like adam scott.
If you feel like you grip a graph. shaft better, go for it. The golden TFC129 shaft ping have put in their i10’s and g10’s is a good rod. G10’s are also the best head to put on a graphite shaft at the moment in my opinion. The ball flight they give is soo straight.
Anyway good luck with it, and if you want graphite then just tell the guy you want graphite and ask what he can do in that regard.

yeah mate graphalloy blue is hell stiff. And fujikura speeder’s and 360’s are overrated. Like Aussie Bomber said the V2 proforce is amazing.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Advice on set make up

i agree with chris on the too many wedges thing. If you have that many clubs that hit under 90m you get ancy around the green. If its close enough to throw it there then its close enough to take part swings with a wedge. I used to play with a 52 – 56 – 60 wedge combo but just never really used the 52 cause i would punch it in 95-110 with a PW on a windy day or just belt a 56 on a still day. Then i could carry 3 woods.
Something else to consider is that the burner 3 hybrid is a liar. It’s 17deg, and like all burner model clubs has a long, light shaft. So If that fits in the place of a 3 iron i’d be surprised. I reckon burner 4 hybrid aswell is a definite option as theyre great clubs and easy to hit. And it will definitely go further than your 4 iron.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Is this a good set?

agreed. You need to swing it at over 90-95 mph to benefit from a stiff shaft, and i reckon if you drive it 180m your swing speed would be a bit slower than 85mph. Absolutely a regular flex, and 10.5 or more degrees of loft. 10.5, 12, 11.5; whatever Hogan makes in that model.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Tiger Woods Nike Blades has anyone hit them?

Ahh i think you should look at the specs on the nike blades, theyre pretty much made for tiger. Meaning not for many other people.
The shafts are shorter than what you might expect… 36.25” 6 iron. Also the lofts on every club are 2 deg more than the loftiest clubs out today. 2 iron is 20 deg, PW is 49. Basically that means they’re meant for someone who plays X100’s and beats the shit out of the ball, otherwise you’ll hit it high (with a softer or lighter shaft) and short. And basically if you play an x100 without serious meditation and mind and body complete preparation beforehand you’ll be in trouble. One needs to prepare for those shafts.
They are pretty though

Topic: Golf Equipment / Bridgestone or Taylor made 3 wood

Wow first off if you hit it 265 you need a stiff shaft. You’ll notice the difference in accuracy, trajectory and reduced backspin. With three woods i wouldn’t advise the bridgestone unless you don’t mind an iffy feel on off-centre’s.
The mizuno F-60 and the slightly older nike (think its called SQ II) three woods are the best that i’ve hit, and i’ve hit basically all of them on the market at work… Taylor made burners; pretty much every club in the range is exceptional in terms of easy to hit, goes a long way… they’re great.

Topic: Golf Equipment / which 3 wood?

Go for the mizuno f-60 or the older (not square) nike SQ fairway. Best out of rough, power off the tee. Just get one ordered with a V2 76g or an aldila NV75 – I play an f-50 in a NV75s, just beautiful. F-60 is a bit better cause it has a slightly deeper face, the f-50 is a bit shallow…

Topic: Golf Equipment / rifle shafts in wedges

Hey fellas, I’m going to upgrade my wedges tomorrow night to an exotics extreme spin 54 and 60. the standard shaft is a DG wedge flex and i play rifle 6.0’s in my blades. Just wanting to know if anyone out there has hit a wedge with a rifle shaft and what it felt like? i’m thinking the flight might be a little high and the feel not as receptive but matching things up always works as i love the rifles in irons. anyway, fire away with thoughts/experiences…

Okay fellas, my hogan and mizuno wedges aren’t quite what im looking for; they aren’t gripping the ball well enough and 3-pieces are going rolling away with little or no check.
Whats the verdict? Whats the best wedge? Taylormade TP’s? Callaway X tour or X forged? Nicket Arc? Clevelands? Vokey’s? Exotics? Gimme your opinions!

Topic: Golf Talk / Tiger: The Power and the Passion

Although tiger is undoubtedly stronger than anyone else, and more focussed, there is a BIG difference that wasn’t argued in detail there. And that’s technique.
No one else has a perfect swing. Adam Scott’s pretty swing elevated him to what? no 5, and thats with pretty streaky putting. But even Scott’s swing fluctuates.
Everyone else just plain doesn’t employ the absolute ideal swing mechanics.
Els is a little off balance on his follow through, cabrera has a bent left arm, mickelson collapses his right leg because of lack of flexibility, and jim furyk? forget it…
It must go hand-in-hand with tiger’s focus, but he is far and away more consistent because he is a perfectionist in dealing with his swing. If it’s not perfect, he’s dissatisfied.
A huge difference is in the way the other top golfers in the world take the swing they’ve more or less always employed (mickleson, furyk, JB holmes are great examples) and try to manipulate it into something a bit better with their coach.
What tiger has done twice in the past for months if not years, is completely scrap a method of swinging the club if it’s not absolutely perfect, and start again. He then hones his new swing and makes sure it stays perfect.
in ‘97 he won the masters by 12, realised that despite this his swing wasn’t perfect, and, true to his mantra of perfectionism, scrapped it.
In 2003 or 04, he realised the swing that had won him 4 majors in a row was putting undue stress on his body, so he scrapped it, lost the no. 1 ranking for a little while, and started again. What’s the product? The way he’s playing now; untouchable.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Which mizuno iron?

match up mp32’s with mp57’s in a combo because the sole length (heel to toe) is similar if not exactly the same. 67’s will be a little shorter and may throw you off.

Topic: Golf Equipment / G10 & TM Burner or MX25 & TM Burner

Its simpler than “this is better this is worse”.
ping use a hard metal to make their irons. In g10 its combined with some offset, a wide sole and a hollow cavity. the hard metal will detract from feel but reduce slices/hooks dramatically compared to the srixon and MX-25 irons which are forged club. Forged is what people rave about for its feel but it will enhance workability (sidespin) as it increases feel. If you’re a graphite shaft man, forgiveness really isnt an issue because the shaft will take care or it. So if you have trouble with unwanted sidespin on your iron shots, g10 in a graphite will let you hit it straighter while the hard metal and ball technology will stop the ball on a dime on the greens.
Srixon and Mizuno will feel a bit sexier, especially if you go for project x’s in the mizunos, but they wont straighten out your ball flight the same as pings. If you’re a steel shaft man, I’d go for mizunos. If graphite, g10’s

mizuno. end of story. no one does forged like mizuno.
HOWever, if you want more, dont like japanese things, or whatever, callaway x-forged, taylormade rac TP (i think they’re called), srixon i-701 tour, are all good stuff
the cavity mizuno MP’s are where its at though. none of the bullshitting with fancy crap behind the iron. great quality forged, thats it.

Topic: Golf Talk / handicaps

Guys I’m 18, and I play golf as much as possible.
Maybe it’s because i can only afford to play at more of the chien-empreintes style courses, but the clubhouses are great places, none of this snobbery crap. all friendly.
But one thing places can change is the dress code, just slightly. Collared shirts no doubt should stay, every kid will own one so its not a problem.
But things like wearing white socks, even with shorts and your black shoes… It makes little difference to how respectable you look today, and kids just plain don’t wear white socks all the time, nor do they see why in hell it makes you look smarter.
Any place who is trying to get you to wear pants still is kidding themselves, this will make the game seem not only like an old person’s thing but an old person’s foreign thing. Who in their right mind lives in australia and plays sport in long pants? Again, you can look mighty respectable in this country wearing shorts.
The other is denim. For social games, if you want kids to play, maybe the denim rule most clubs have should be relaxed. So many kids I know just don’t own shorts that aren’t either denim or boardshorts. It’s been what? 50 years since James Dean I think we can give denim a bit more standing now. And Again, if your denim shorts aren’t frayed or torn there’s no reason why you won’t look like you’re respecting the game. Kids think: “If my mum tells me to put on my nice denim shorts to look nice for grandma or on christmas day. etc., then why don’t the golf people take that aswell?”

Topic: Golf Talk / Tiger Woods is bad for Golf

Babe ruth wasnt bad for Baseball

Jordan wasnt bad for Basketball

Nicklaus wasnt bad for golf

Bradman wasnt bad for cricket

Shane warne wasnt bad for cricket

Rodger Federer usnt bad for tennis

Tiger woods has improved golfs popularity more than we can ever beleive

exactly.
you can talk about technology ruining it and what not but i think you should be targeting someone other than tiger with that one. He sticks to the driver, 3wood, 5wood/2blade, 3-pw blades, 56, 60 which is surely about as old school as they get. yes his clubs are hi-tek but hes not hitting those ultra-forgiving hybrids or spaceship putters.
You cant stop technological progress. doing so would be the biggest killer of veiwers, especially younger ones, and popularity possible. A few regulations like the new ones with the drivers are perfect, and maybe that should follow with the tour balls, but tiger woods is by no means bad for golf’s popularity.
In general golf is watched by golfers. moreso than tennis being watched by tennis players, etc. You need to understand the game to watch it regularly, and golfers who understand the game cant take their eyes off tiger woods’ shot shaping ability, his control, his perfectionism, his concentration, his power. Maybe golf viewing has gone down because all the other pros dont have the same competitive, perfectionist attitude, eg they’re fat (mickelson), or they’re supposedly a professional but cant be f*cked to iron out their swing (furyk).
