Topic: Rules of Golf / Test question, practising on course before stroke round.....

RulesDoc, thats the bit I am getting at “the technicality issue”. I want to be sure that if we disqualify someone for doing what I have posted, that they can not argue that they are “technically” not practising “on the course”. Is there a decision that backs this ruling up?

Topic: Golf Equipment / driver shaft help

Cliffmanley, do you know of a good website that discusses shaft characteristics and what affect they have on bal flight (height)?
I have always tended to hit my driver high and am interested in the effect the tip stiffnes and kickpoint have on the ball flight. My swing speed is around 105 with a driver.

Topic: Rules of Golf / Test question, practising on course before stroke round.....

lefty731pm the only reason I ask the question is because I am not technically hitting any shots from on the course, i.e. “practising on the course”. Definition just seems a little on the grey side.

Topic: Rules of Golf / Test question, practising on course before stroke round.....

Can you hit balls down the first fairway from outside of the tee markers on the first tee before a round of stroke play? If you just went and picked them up withot hitting them again from on the course, would this be considered pratising on the course or not?

Imagine regularly putting yourself out in public in front of heaps of people, knowing that everyone there knows you have a massive gambling and drinking problem and somehow putting that knowledge aside to focus on playing golf. That must take some special concentration.

Topic: Golf Talk / Don't get all smug just be because he missed the cut!

I only followed him for a few holes yesterday but the huge crowd that were following him were definately supporting him and he was very respectful to the applause he received. (As all pros should be). The add they were running for the Masters on the radio where they talk about golf is one of few sporting events where you can get right up close to an elite sportsmen was right on the mark. I was right behind John when he hit his second into the 6th and could have poked him with my umbrella on his backswing if I wanted to. Its a shame he missed the cut, but he was definately woth the appearance money in my book.

Topic: Golf Talk / golf shops

I have the x-14 pro series and love them.
If they have improved by 10% each time they have released a new model x-16, x18, x-20, x-22 that would make the x-22 40% easier to hit so I should be able to score 40% better and my handicap should be 40% less? I might have to get some….........

Topic: Rules of Golf / How would YOU play it ?

I’d say remove the post if it has not been declared an immovable obstruction and if the ball moves replace it where it moved from with no penalty.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Callaway "Diablo" vs Taylomade Burner

I cuurently have a Taylormade Burner 10.5 degree, Reg. shaft, which I hit very high and my bad shot is a slice.
Today I went to a Drummond shop to try out a Callaway FT-i with a stiff shaft because I thought it would straighten me out and help me hit lower.
I took my own driver and had a few hits on the launch monitor which showed a high fade with a carry of 190m which is probably about right on average in real play. Swing speed was 105mph.
Tried out the FT-i and the flight and distance was the same!
The guy in the shop gave me a Callaway Diablo (Draw) to try, stiff shaft 10 degree and it felt great. Launch monitor said much straighter and a carry of 235m!
I wanted to try a 9 degree because it said the launch angle was around 18 or 19 degree but he did not have one.
I also wanted to try a TM Burner (Draw) in 9.5 degree with a stiff shaft but he did not have one of those either because they are the old model.
Has anyone else tried these two to compare?
I had never heard of the Diablo before today so would be interested in the thoughts of those that have them or have tried them.
PS – this was my first ever try on a launch monitor so I am a bit sceptical of the results and will try a club “for real” before buying, but it was pretty close with assessing my own driver flight/distance so do I dare to dream of long straight Diablo drives?
Any thoughts/advice welcome.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Stubborn Spikes

I just changed my “quick change” spikes and had the same troube with dirt that had worked its way in jamming the spikes and making them hard to turn. In retrospect soaking them with CRC or similar would probably have softened the dirt and made the job eaiser. Got them out with long nose pliers with the points jammed in hard in the holes.

Seems like an odd post, but if I could play golf like your golflink history shows, I would post anything just to have an excuse to post the golflink link to your history. Get on the tour?

It’s just a game after all!

Topic: Rules of Golf / Player only to look for golf ball!

It could also disadvantage the rest of the field in situations where the player does not want to find his ball. Eg. flushes a big drive with a provisional when his original ball might be unplayable and his best option is to go back to the tee. The player can not verbally declare his ball lost.

Topic: Rules of Golf / Maximum Mens Handicap

Austraian handicaps are valid at any course you play.

Club handicaps are appicable at your home club only.

For example the maximum Oz handicap was 27 until recently, but we had a club maximum of 32. This meant that our club members who needed those few extra shots had more of a chance at being competitive when playing at home. When they played at other courses however, they had to play off 27. Other clubs in our area had a maximum club handicap of 36.

With the max. Oz handicap now at 36.4, it is unlikely that clubs will ever use a club handicap again.

Topic: Rules of Golf / Ambrose - play ball as it lies?

In my experience if the rules of the comp are for the other players to drop their ball then the original ball is played as it lies.
If the other players are to place their ball then the original player is also afforded the same privilege.

As others have said, the rules vary from club to club and comp. to comp.
