Topic: The Lounge / FAKES COST EBAY

Luxury brand wins in battle of fakesArticle from: Agence France-PresseFont size: Decrease Increase Email article: Email Print article: Print From correspondents in Paris
June 30, 2008 09:31pm

A PARIS court has ordered online auction site eBay to pay €40 million ($65.8m ) in damages to Louis Vuitton for selling fake luxury goods online.

The commercial court ruled in favour of six LVMH brands that accused eBay of putting on sale fake handbags, clothes and other luxury goods, and of illicit sales of perfumes, in a case that began a year and a half ago.

eBay, the world’s biggest online auctioneer, was ordered to pay €19.28m to LVMH and €16.3m to its sister company Christian Dior Couture for damage to their brand images and causing moral harm.

It must also pay €3.25m to four perfume brands – Christian Dior, Kenzo, Givenchy and Guerlain – for sales in violation of its authorised network.

The court barred eBay, which said it would appeal against the ruling, from advertising the cosmetic or perfume brands on its website.

LVMH had argued eBay had failed to do enough to prevent the sale of counterfeit copies of their goods and that it did not have legal permission to sell its authentic products.

The ruling came amid a flurry of legal action against the online giant, which claims to have some 84 million active users in 39 markets worldwide.

Earlier this month, eBay was convicted by a French court of selling counterfeit goods and ordered to pay €20,000 in damages to French luxury group Hermes.

The court ruling, which marked a first in France, found eBay directly responsible for the sale on its website of three Hermes bags including two fakes, for a total of €3000.

France’s traditional auctioneers took legal action against the online auctioneer in December, accusing it of encouraging trade in pirated and stolen goods.

A council representing the auction industry also accuses the internet trader of breaking a French 2000 law that requires all auctioneers to be approved by the state.

According to eBay the total value of items sold on its trading platforms in 2007 was nearly $US60 billion ($62.5 billion).

Topic: Golf Equipment / Golf Grips

Years ago there was little choice in golf grips Golf Pride dominated and their grips were pretty standard then. Now the choice is endless Golf Pride,Lamkin,Winn, and several others give us many choices in style, texture, feel and colour. It’s the same with putter grips stodgy old black thin ones are replaced by bigger, wider, flatter shapes and in all colours.
One I really like is the Tiger Shark jumbo comes in red, blue, green.yellow and orange feels teriffic but not cheap.Still it’s worth it as the only part you touch with your hands is the grip and it needs to feel right imo.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Is $167 a good price for a Smoothy buggie?

$167 is a rare bargain I paid $199 for a chrome one when they came on the market 4/5 years ago and it’s good as gold no rust all it lacks is the brake which came on later models.Colour is a personal choice although I’ve always preferred chrome to the black or sand blasted ones.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Whats a good wedge?

Everyone has a favourite, somtimes you need to try differnt makes and lofts to find what suits you best.I’ve had many and if the truth be known all I lacked was Confidence (not getting out of bunkers was the problem )and knowing how to play various shots from the lies you find yourself in like on tight lies around the green with a bunker to get over and another to go in if you miss the green.A lesson or two will fix most problems. As for brands I think the cheap ones are just as good as the dear ones.If there is a difference it’s very little and most club golfers wouldn’t be affected by the brand. One thing I have done tho is to get rid of the lob wedge it got me into more trouble than it was worth and I don’t take the gap any more just use SW and PW suits me fine.

A lot more sensible and required by the Rules. If you ignore this why bother with the rest.Cheat and cheats never prosper and word gets around a bad reputation wouldn’t be a good thing to have in a golf club.

Lots of things we should do in golf and most do the right thing most of the time. One of the worst breaches of etiquette is on Par 3 compulsory call up holes your group hasn’t finished putting when some of the group called up stroll up on the green instead of waiting on the fringes until we vacate it.Bloody poor manners imo.

Often find no rakes or not enough in bunkers ,someone must pinch them. Most difficulty I have with bunkers is when the ball is at the back on a slope and where sand is shallow and varies from one hole to another.Confidence will get us out of most bunkers imo.

Friend of mine has been saving for a TM Burner draw driver, available on the internet in USA for just under US$200,here they are discontinued stock but some can be found AUD $499.Hard to justify buying locally and local shop probably couldn’t negotiate comparable price to US even allowing for freight of US$30 approx.
