Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Chipping

G’day gang,

When I set up for a chip shot I quite often hit it fat due to the club decelerating and hence stubbing the ground. It generally happens more on shorter chips.

i think my technique is pretty good. Is this likely to be a mental or physical problem?

Any tips? Thanks.

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Stopping on the green

There is only one way to get spin or not get spin I don’t care who teaches what.

If there is only one way, what way is it? The method I was taught involving hitting down with a high lofted club with high clubhead speed? Or the method you describe involving working the shaft, and rolling the ball onto the sweetspot (and possibly laying back the loft)?

Jeffery please kick on as you have the answers there. “Please explain?”

I don’t have any answers. Thaty is just what I was told. But that was by someone with a Bann/Lynch swing (non TGM), so obviously TGM swings have different ways of getting spin, as Dart explained.

CrazyCharlie,

Borrow his club and ball to make sure it is not that, then copy his loading action, the way he works the shaft.

Notice the way his low point is two to three inches ( 7 cms.) after the ball.

He may of may not have a sharp breaking wrist action.

Part of the trick is to catch the ball just under the sweet spot so as the ball rolls into it during the impact time.

It takes plenty of practice and it is unreliable as it depends on hitting a part of the green that will take spin. Sydney greens are full of Poa, little patches of seedy heads that grow through the day, which take the spin off the ball first bounce. What you want is to take the momentum off the ball and leave the spin on so it can grip on the second or third bounce.

ph

So clubhead speed has nothing to do with it? What about angle of attack? Or club head loft?

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Beginner using Crocker Golf System

I have already reduced my scores …on 18 holes by an average 23 strokes…..After practising the drills provided by Peter, I am averaging 2 putts per hole instead of 4 per green

So your putting has improved by 36 strokes per round. Which means the rest of your game has gotten worse by 13 shots a round???

Clinics are for kids. They generally impart no ‘why things work.’ Terrible things most of the time with “copy me”.

We have plenty of “stuff” to pass on:)

I have included below an exert form a website of a professional who teaches the accredited PGA method. it appears to completely contradict your flippant post. Your constant bagging of these mainstream professional teachers is no credit to you or your teachings.

Golf Schools Golf Schools are an ideal way to receive comprehensive learning in a smaller (6:1 student to coach format) group format.

Golf Schools are conducted in either a Full day ($150) or 1/2 Day ($75) format on Short Game or Full Swing.

Golf Schools are conducted specifically for Men’s and Ladies with advanced, intermediate or beginner catagories available.

Golf schools are the quickest and most effective way to receive total game improvement.

Full day Golf Schools include on-course tuition on shot selection and strategy. Golf school dates are provided in the “class dates” section of the website.

Customised Golf Schools If we don’t have a Golf School date suitable to you why not create your own. All you need is a minimum of 6 people and you can choose between a range of topics and formats.

Half Day Full Day 2 or 3 Day Long Game Shortgame

Whats the hourly rate for coaching at your local club by the pro, about $100 per hour.

This is a whole day thing, more than 8 hours sounds like good value to me !

$100 an hour is for one on one lessons. An all day clinic normally costs between $100-$200. Of course this is a non TGM clinic. A TGM clinic obviously will cost more due to stuff.

Topic: Golf Talk / Swing advice needed

OEJ,

A couple of swing tips.

At home. Stand in your address position (not holding a club) with you left foot against a wall which is at right angles to your swing. Plce some double sided sticky tape on your left shounder. Rotate your shoulders back and then through to the target. YOur shoulder should brush the wall with enough force to remove the take from your shoulder and leave it on the wall.

On the course. as you swing, imagine you are swinging a crocodile by its tail into a river from a boat. If you launch forward with your shoulders the crocodiles head will hit the deck and he will get angry and bite you. Keep your balance, turn around your spine, and you will launch him far into the river.

Hope that helps.

Pretty sure that I wrote in the heading that this a private message. Then I log on and find it has had 28 views. Not only have people been reading it, but each person has viewed it 3-4 times. This new Iseekgolf PM system isnt going to work if people cheat. Give us some privacy please.

Alternatively you could have a local rule drop zone but id have it on the left at the start of the fairway so your 3rd shot wasnt over water (golf is supposed to be fun remember!!)

Isn’t a shot over water fun?

Good stuff Matt, look forward to the review. Not sure that Waterford Valley should ever be held up as a price benchmark though. Seems to be a major outlier on the price v quality distribution.

1 is a great openning hole, Judge, I am a big fan of Number 2 as well. 3 is ambitous but doesn’t really work IMO

Forced layup on 4 and 6……overdone somewhat IMO. Once one can live with but twice in 3 holes ?

P3’s are the highlight – 16th is a cracker !!

Not sure I totally agree. 4 narrows to 20m wide at 280m and cuts out at 300m which isnt what i would call a ‘forced lay up.

6 narrows to about 18m at 240. A forced layup for me, common fairway width on pga tour.
