Operation Frank ......
Well the big day has now been and gone. It started with such promise … a clear crisp morning with just a hint of dew on the ground and a slight nip in the air. And then we got to the course …….. only to find the greens awash with sand. What started out as a great day for Team Frank, turned into a complete farce with his very first putt, when Frank’s ball looked like the planet Saturn as it rolled across to the green, gathering more rings of icy sand as it went. So Frank’s normally smooth silky putting, and his chipping game were negated, by dare I say it, some rather despicable playing conditions. There was more sand on the greens than you’d find in the Sahara these days, and combined with the icy dew, it made putting just a farce, and for at least the first 9 holes ……. it took any “skill” out of the equation. Frank though showed true class, and he battled on with stoic determination, and despite some tough breaks, made the turn in a well compiled, regulation 18 points. As the sun rose, the greens changed to something resembling a sand scrape, as opposed to a snowfield, but they were still, a long way short of ideal, and by then, the damage had been done. Frank managed to scramble another 18 points on the last 9 holes, but really, his chances for the day were ruined when we saw the state of the practice green. Now some nay sayers would opine, that blah, blah, blah, it was “the same for everyone”, and yes that is true, but only to a certain extent. If you’re game is based on a strong short game as per Frank’s, then you were severely penalised out there today. If a great short game isn’t your strength however, then you weren’t penalised anywhere near as much. The icy sand took all the skill out of the greens today, and made the good short game players do it tough. Regardless though, Frank put in a very good effort today, and despite not winning (Frank lost by 6 shots to someone playing off 30+) we are proud of our man and his efforts today. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the rest of Team Frank for their sterling efforts in the lead-up to the event and to today. To Godly, and good mate Georgey Boy, thanks for your efforts today guys. Peaksy, you did a good job of getting at least the top half of Frank into something other than beige. To the many supporters of Frank today (those of you who proudly wore your Team Frank stickers) ...... thankyou for your kind support and encouragement of our man. And to Frank, well played buddy …. it may not have happened for you today, but you did walk off with the much sought after “Best Player Never To Win, An Order Of Merit Event” trophy. I figure having it in your possession for one OOM will be enough, and so I would like Team Frank to continue onto the next OOM, where hopefully, they will have some grass on the greens and we can get you over the line ……...... http://www.golflink.com.au/... 2012 Rotary Ambrose Champions “All Star Team” Member. LD Wins – Growling Bog, Waterford Valley, Bendigo. Bacchus Marsh 27 Hole Event winner 2013. FRANK’S COACH.
Bad luck Frank, next time buddy. :)
Thought you had been practicing in gravel car parks in preparation?

Yeah…….... Golflink had me having 52 for 18 holes on a course that I’ve never played on. Wonder if Riversdale’s game on Monday will make it on there before Sunday???? 9/10/12 – Hole In One – 7th Hole Portsea GC 2012 (Official) Winner of Inaugural ISG Nat. Champs. 2011 Inaugural winner Vict. Order of Merit Putting Champion – Long Island http://www.golflink.com.au/...
It will probably go in on Monday.
How are you holding up to the expectations of Sunday? Are you practicing your putting in the local gravel car park? :)

See above Sir Don, I mean Frank :) The only way to find out a man’s true character is see how he reacts when a shanked ball is coming at him. Kiwi – Ducked for cover Goldy – Didn’t flinch Nice Edit SM. Lucky I quoted your original post. ;-) The Glenelg game score is so accurate they had me playing on the Wednesday. 9/10/12 – Hole In One – 7th Hole Portsea GC 2012 (Official) Winner of Inaugural ISG Nat. Champs. 2011 Inaugural winner Vict. Order of Merit Putting Champion – Long Island http://www.golflink.com.au/...
Snuck a ‘sighter’ in on Wednesday did we? Golflink misses nothing. :)

There were some major adjustments made – that is all I can say at this stage.

What would you do?
I’m in a similar position to you, DN. I have a big comp in a few weeks in Adelaide. There are guys in my club that are “protecting” their handicaps in the lead up to Adelaide so they have a chance to win the big prizes. I have match play games and the all important Vic OOM game at Heidelberg (where GPJ has promoted me to win) I would love to have a few more shots but the last few games has seen my handicap drop to 9.1. Instead of giving my opposition matchplay player 3 shots it’s now out to 5 or 6. (He is conveniently struggling in the lead up. ;-) As GPJ says…….your ethics should dictate. Everytime I tee it up I want to play to the best of my ability and my goal is to play to the lowest handicap I can. I get more satisfaction from playing well and if you do you may still win no matter what handicap you end up 9/10/12 – Hole In One – 7th Hole Portsea GC 2012 (Official) Winner of Inaugural ISG Nat. Champs. 2011 Inaugural winner Vict. Order of Merit Putting Champion – Long Island http://www.golflink.com.au/...
Name and shame big boy.
Now you know what it feels like, YOU having to give someone else shots! :)

Lessons in Melbourne's East?
I drive 40 mins to see Garth, he is worth every minute of travel.
I have had lessons from 4 different pros in the past 25 years – I have had one lesson with Garth and he is head and shoulders above the rest.
For me, he is the best.
What he did with me in one lesson was unbelievable, I now have a new outlook on the game and look forward to the challenge ahead.
He is now officially my coach. :)
