Topic: Golf Equipment / #%&^#& store on eBay
Store Retail prices have reduced thanks to eBay sellers and importers over the last few years. It really depends on which brand you look at. Your 10% quote would be correct from some brands but way out on others. Yes there is a risk buying from eBay but this risk can be removed if you do a little homework and don’t just dive in. There is quite a lot of fake gear on eBay these days and this makes it harder for the genuine sellers as buyers want to pay nothing for the goods. eBay sellers don’t have the overheads and if the goods have been in stock for too long , will most often be sold off for what ever they can get. Because if they wait another month the prices those goods will fetch, is going to be even less. Especially with TMs 3 monthly life cycle. I used to sell a lot of gear on eBay but now only sell gear on there that needs to move. I largely moved away from eBay, due to the prices that people were willing to pay for goods falling. I put this down to a supply demand issue with eBay largely affected from a flooding of fake gear and in small part increased competition from other Genuine sellers. Profit to be had on eBay compared to 2 years ago has been cut by around 20-30%. I could name you 5-6 genuine sellers of new equipment on Aussie eBay and dozen from the US. The main reason for people being caught buying fake gear on eBay is that they don’t buy from a seller with near perfect feedback. They need to read through the feedback and see if any comments have been added that may suggest the buyer latter found out the goods were fake. Oh and my favourite is, don’t expect to pay $400 for a brand new set of Mizuno irons etc. The number of emails I used to get from buyers only willing to spend peanuts for something was amazing. Sorry for the long post. DAVE |

There is a number of sellers who sell good stuff. There is also a number of sellers who couldn't care what price they get for a 2 ball or Scotty putter for example. There is even a few Genuine sellers who frequent these boards. DAVE |

Union is the one is trouble, they keep buying 2nd string league players that go straight into the Australian side. Their depth is terrible. League have 3 or 4 players to cover every one that goes over. League haven't missed Lote but what an embarressment the Lote issue is now for Union. Also Rogers for that matter. Lote doesn't like being their but is happy to take the money and do nothing on the field. The fact Union are offering less money to Gerard and Rathbone speaks volumes. DAVE

Topic: Sports Talk / Grand Prix If you don't consider Motor Racing and especially F1 a sport then do you consider Downhill Skiing or Bob sled a sport? Both are extreme activties but aren't even close to the demands placed on the body whilst driving an F1 car. In all cases the occupant is essentially going for a ride. But without input it's going to turn out nasty. |

1 Hole in 1 Managed 5 eagles in a 27 hole tournament at Ayr golf club a few years back but also managed quite a few big numbers as well and finished around 6 over for the 27 holes of golf. Some flashes of brilliance followed by shite. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Played a round today with my new Sumo...goes well
The SUMO² on the other hand, was taking off much too high and if I didn't hit it straight was hitting it with a hard draw. The loft on this club was too much for me and I didn't like the closed face. This will be where the draw was coming from as the SUMO i tried didn't have a closed face. Oh and yes the sound of this one was a little annoying. Look of the the SUMO² was odd but it really shouldn't affect how anyone hits the ball and sound for that matter. I demoed both drivers at 9.5° with Stiff stock shafts. DAVE |

Topic: Golf Talk / Single Figure Handicap! What it takes! Before Marriage: Handicap Between 1-2 Weekly routine was 2 -3 afternoons a week I would practice putting and on occassion chipping. I would play every Saturday and probablly every second Sunday. If I had a bad round with the driver then I would try and fit a range session in one evening during the week especially if there was an open event on the next weekend. After Marriage: Handiap has been gaining .2 back most weeks and then .1 I seem to have stabilised the handicap around 5 even slipped out to 6 for a few rounds.
Weekly Practice: None Practice is the key. Shortgame especially.
Oh and staying single may help!!!! DAVE |

Not really fair comment. He has been recovering from injury and I think he has won twice since Dec 2006. I look forward to seeing the Big Easy at the top of the leader board during the majors again this year. |

Loft on the R7 TP irons is exactly the same as the Mizuno MP60's thoughout the whole set. Loft of both the I5 and CG4 Tour are the same as the R7's in irons 3i-5i and then they are actually stronger in loft from 6i-PW so you are mistaken in thinking the R7tp have stonger lofts. They actually have the weakest loft equal with the Mizuno's of the 4 sets you mention. |

Quantity of TM clubs sold allow them to have a lower price. TM also have a much bigger range of product than Ping. The two companies go about their marketing in very different ways. Their is nothing Inferior with regards to TM products. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Where can I get tour gear from?
Col the TP Construction, Metal and tooling is exactly the same, the following post is off the WRX site and was posted by Taylormade's Chief Technical Officer: TP is tour-issued . BSG is full of s**t. THE TRUTH Dr. Benoit Vincent is Taylormade's Chief Technical Officer Sean Toulan: Okay, I know there’s a lot of …#8220; believe me; we’re on the boards, all of the boards, every day. That means me, and Dr. Vincent, and everybody here in this room. So, let me just say this …#8220; that I am so appreciative of the service that these boards have given all of us in the game of golf, and I mean that very, very sincerely. Because for somebody like me, and the guys here in this room, for us to really get an accurate feel of the vibe of what’s going on in the marketplace is incredibly valuable. So, we definitely are on the boards to listen, we’re not on the boards to influence, we’re not on the boards to plant propaganda, we’re just there to listen to what real golfers are talking about with equipment, we’re the same way. The TP thing, I can tell you the TP concept was born because we listen to people like you guys on boards. And that was a very controversial thing, inside the company a few years ago when we launched the R510TP. There were all kinds of things about, gosh, should we talk about the club that Sergio plays isn’t exactly like the club that might be for sale in the public. To me, I’ve seen Sergio’s club, and I’m a pretty nice golfer, I can’t play Sergio Garcia’s driver, I hit it low, right, and about 180. I’m not going to play with that, but it isn’t so much Sergio’s driver, it’s the specs of Sergio’s driver. So, what we use the tour for is to develop new products, and to develop new technologies, and to validate these new technologies. If we can get Sergio Garcia, Retief Goosen, and Darren Clarke, to give us the two thumbs up, there’s a good chance the average golfer is going to like the idea. So, when we developed TP, TP is tour equipment. Is it the same metal …#8220; yes. Is it the same tooling …#8220; in most cases yes, and I’ll explain that in a second. Is it made from the same group of foundries and vendors …#8220; absolutely yes. So, I know there’s a lot of misinformation out there, when I said it’s the exact same tooling, in some case it is, and in some case it isn’t. What I mean by that is the products that we bring out under TP are the products that are most used on the PGA Tour. For instance, where that would vary is sometimes we do additional TP parts that may not come to the marketplace. When we did the original 510 TP driver, that one went into play and was incredibly successful. But we have players out there, Darren Clarke being one, that would have a hard time leaving a golf club to the right. Way more people hit it to the right and don’t like right and would rather have it left than people know Darren Clarke happens to be one of them. So we did another tool of the R510 TP that had a more heel-ward center of gravity, so for a player like a Darren Clarke, he could have that golf club go more to the left for him. That one we never brought to the marketplace, but we did have some on tour. So, we definitely will continue to prototype, and we’ve always done prototyping on the tour, some of those clubs come to market and some of them don’t. We did an R7 Quad HT, we did a 425 HT, the R7 Quad HT came to market and the R7 425 HT has not come to market. So, we use it, probably no different than Ferrari would use Formula 1 racing, you know, at the very highest level, we get constant feedback, some of that is directly applicable to the marketplace, and some is not so much.
Sean Toulan: Correct...Let me clarify one thing. We have two models, an R7 and an R7 TP, but they’re completely different spec packages, right? One has a lot of offset, and the lofts are a little stronger, and the blades are bigger, and then we have another one called R7 TP, and then we actually have a third one called R7 Draw, so there isn’t a tour version of any of those clubs, they’re all the same. Of those three R7 Draw, R7 TP, and R7; the R7 TP and R7 are both on Tour. Dr. Benoit Vincent: Let me answer that question, not from the marketing side, but from the production side, as I’m also in charge of making every single of those. I can guarantee that the head that are used by our tour department to assemble golf clubs for the tour players are the exact same heads that are used in the production line to assemble the R7 TP iron. They are the exact same. When they run out of inventory in the tour department, they just pick some in the shelf of the commercial department. And it’s the same thing for the Superquad TP; it’s the exact same product. Now, to Sean’s point, they’re going to equip them with an X shaft, and they’re going to bend them one or two degrees here or there, that’s for sure, but that’s a classical fitting aspect and that’s what we offer in custom, through our custom service. So you can get, if you really need an X shaft, very heavy, then you can get it because in stock we wouldn’t put that shaft in. |

Yeah, can't see any advantage in going out onto 10 when playing 18 at Colonial. Makes the hole longer and a much harder approach shot. Agree with you on 17 at southport. Do you mean 16 at GGCC and not 17? As I think 17 is the par 3? DAVE |
