Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Head movement during hip bump
Et tu Brute (Jeff)! My offering was not a criticism of your paper or divergence from your position; merely an adjunct to your post.
Agreed. |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Head movement during hip bump
I think the down or backwards to which you refer is relative to the hip bump. That is to say that the “bump” should be confined to the hip alone and not drag the head or other body parts forwards prior to impact. The head actually moving down and backwards, away from its starting position, changes the ball placement at set up (effectively moving it more forward) and will provoke fat or thin shots depending on the compensations effected by the individual. |

It may have “felt” like a big loop because mentally you actually swung according to, and in line with, the way you were lined up; as opposed to the reality of bending the plane on which you had set up by then swinging straight down the line at your target – or steering. You have a tendency to aim way right but then swing straight down the line. This brings your back swing way inside but your down swing then goes (on a loop, if you will) a bit OTT as you redirect the club head straight at your target. Fix that Alex and you will be a very good player. You have the basic ingredients and some. Thanks for your company at Cuscowilla. Very enjoyable. |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Pressure Point #3 Remember guys. Pressing against the shaft is not the objective here and can be quite damaging. The idea is to sense the lag pressure via pp3 – as opposed to applying pressure with the forefinger in order to keep some contrivance in place. |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Timing the right hand rotation
Because it has to as you move into a full finish. It requires little, if no effort. It just happens. Make a few left arm only swings and see and feel how your left forearm works post impact. Then add a loose right hand grip and let it go along for the ride. Illuminating stuff. Light bulbs and all that. |

I’m in if you’re in Mate. Last time was a blast and “Son of Cuscowilla” can only be better. If you come, that is. My potential has never been so fraught! Actually put in a couple of half way reasonable rounds this week. 11 over (82) in 25mph winds and a 15 over (88) including 5 penalties would you believe!! Yeh, I know, nothing to get excited about but much better than I had been scoring in the couple of months pre-Cuscowilla. Getting back to where I was before moving on to where I want to be. |

I wish you were going also because some of the swings I make are a Biomechanical disgrace. Heaven knows where they come from. At times I think I am possessed. “How could I have just done that?” But, the feeling of a good one, the crack of the ball, par the eighteenth…........................ “See you tomorrow boys”. |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Swing outside in 12shoc, I will have more help than I could possibly use. Shame I can’t bottle some to bring home with me. bi0mechanic, That’s all well and good but it is when I get in motion that the short circuit occurs and all hell gets let loose. You would not believe the difference between my good shots and the bad. My good shots are infinitely better than when a started this infernal game and my bad shots are not as frequent – but indescribably worse!!!! Then some twat says “but that’s golf”, which really helps.:) |

Bio, Have a ball? I will be scared shitless at making a tit of myself in such august company. My jaw will be dropped, mouth wide open and brain racing just trying to keep up with all those guys who can “talk the talk” and “walk the walk”. Meeting Darty will be a bonus. Just hope I can still speak once I get into his company – a Legend. |

The root cause, without the need for sitting through thirteen segments of swing video, is that the OTT swinger initiates his start down from the top of the back swing by throwing (rotating) his right shoulder out towards the ball. There is more to it, of course, but neither reading a thesis or sitting through countless videos will ensure that the OTT swinger will change this errant action: he will only learn more about what he is doing wrong. Stronger, more practical, measures are called for; those that have an instant visual and sensory impact. Measures that you can take to the practise ground. See the 2×4 but don’t hit it is purely visual – nice. See the 2×4 and hit it is sensory – not nice. Use the 2×4, differentiate between the visual and the sensory and cure your OTT move in the process. |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Rising up before impact
Gotta, It is nigh on impossible to stand up if you are still hitting down to low point through impact. Think about driving your right shoulder down and into the ball, or hitting the ball with your right shoulder, if you prefer. Post impact, nature will take its course and pull you through to a full finish. |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / What causes upper body to rise on back swing?
normc, Glad to hear that your lady is supple and in good working order in all departments. The problem may well be caused then by trying to add that little extra to the back swing, having already completed the pivot. This is a common failing in “he men” when trying to gorilla the ball into the next State, so to speak. Nice back swing followed, and destroyed, by an upstanding heave to add that extra umph. |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / keeping scone behind the ball... finster869, Geoff Mangum has reference to this subject in relation to putting on his “Puttingzone” web site. Thanks for your input. I have tried this over the last couple of days and can see (pardon the pun) some improvements in ball striking already. Jeff, Anything to offer? |
