Where are the light towers when you need them ??

Badds’ stats were OK can anyone comment on how he played as I did not see him on the telecast before I left for work.

You must be a bit cranky that Badds and Villegas both bogeyed 18 in the dark…

Not the best finish was it, where are the mobile light towers ?

I bet they will probably bogey the first in the morning mist now.

I saw Badds stats he seemed to play OK. Did anyone see any of his shots and can comment on how he went.
Hope the putter works for the rest of the weekend.

Yair, I reckon Ogilvy and R Green might actually feature on Sunday.

Risky but maybe 3 strong players are better than 4 iffy ones.

Reverse every natural instinct you have and do just the opposite of what you are inclined to do and you will probably come very close to having a perfect golf swing. – BEN HOGAN, POWER GOLF

If I had R Green in my squad I would have left it alone, but I think you will find I had N Green in there who is not playing.

So far the swap was OK. Villegas going ok at +1 and Badds is equal with Ogilvy, so I think I got it right on the selection table thus far. Fingers crossed they all the weekend and boost me up into the top 3 money getters. Sitting nicely poised 3 back from the leader in equal 4th

In: Villegas, Baddeley

Badds (Aus) 3.6
Snedeker (USA) 2.28
Chopra (ROW) 1.86
Villegas (ROW) 1.88

Hopefully the squad plays well.

Muntz / Boz,

Received the great fantom and vision prizes today ...Thanks again and keep up the great work.

Got mine today also from the PODS championship.

Since I plan on getting in the money again for the Masters, might I suggest that you send me a white Vision Cap !!!!!! to match the black one I got in the pack.

How many different coloured caps have you got ??? cause I plan on getting the full set by the end of the year.

Topic: Golf Talk / ISG 2008 PGA Tour Tipping - Arnold Palmer Invitational

Hi Muntz,

I was just trying to work out my score. Can you tell me where I went wrong:

Ogilvy -3
Snedeker -3
D Chopra +3 (missed cut therefore double +6)
N Green +4 (missed cut therefore double +8)

Best three scores are -3, -3 & +6 a Total of Even, but I’m listed at +11.

Have I missed something in the calculations, or am I due for a better payout than Tied for 15.

Cheers

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / National OLD course

Cant’ say that the Old has been rewarding to me, challenging Yes but rewarding No.

I’ve played it in all conditions and still can’t seem to post a decent score.

I think that the the first 5 holes (maybe not the first though) is the toughest start to any golf course that I have ever played.

Topic: Golf Talk / ISG 2008 PGA Tour Tipping - PODS Championship

Leading by 3 shots at the start of the day I thought that a win was a mere formality.

Can someone please loosen the rope from around my neck.

I’m glad to finally pick up a cheque and see my name on the leaderboard after all the DQ’s. I suppose thats what happens when you do not pick a good starting team, it took a few events to have my full or 3/4 of the squad even entered in an event.

Muntz I will email you my details today. Could really do with the Vision prize pack after loosing 7 balls during last weeks medal round, needless to say I didn’t figure in the finish.

Hopefully I can follow this up with another top 5 finish in the next event.

Topic: Golf Talk / 7-9 hcp stats, f/w's,gir, putts etc

If you miss the green by say 20 cm or less and take the putter, having a real legitimate go at hole, do you count that as a putt ?

If you miss, but tap in next shot is that counted as up&down, with first putt equal to a chip and then count 1 putt ?

I assume that if you count this as 2 putts then it would also count as a GIR.

I used to count these fringe shots as putts, but was told by a playing partner they do not count, amazing how many more 1 putts I have recorded in the last 3 weeks.

Topic: Golf Talk / Pro Am - What to expect

I plan to enjoy the day and hospitality services with food and drinks.

What could be better than golf at a great course, lunch & beers and not having to pull the wallet out from your pocket all day.

Pity a taxi from Melbourne to Moonah links would cost about $ 300.00 each way.

Topic: Golf Talk / Pro Am - What to expect

I’ve been lucky enough to get an invite to play in the Pro Am at Moonah Links next week. I’ve never been to one before and I am just wondering what to expect.

Do they play off the back tees ?

I’m sure most amatuers take it serious, like playng for sheep stations, but do the pro’s take it easy getting in another round of practise ? and having a fun day out pleasing the sponsors.

I’m sure the course will be in great nick being a day before the tournament starts, but has anyone played it lately and got any tips for someone who has not played on the Open course before.

Topic: Golf Talk / How did you all play this weekend?

Shot an 84 (nett 65) to win the C Grade monthly medal. First time in the eighties for some time, but made two bad errors and I should have been looking at a 79 or 80. Never shot in the seventies before so I was a little peaved off that I was so close.
Following on from a comp 4th last weekend, now have $ 200.00 to spend up.
Handicap has dived 2.6 in 8 days and now looking to compete in B Grade this month.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Bag Boy Smoothy Buggy

Just bought one these on boxing day (sovereign).

Great buggy and very easy to push around, definetly beats the complimentary pull buggies others use.

On dwnslopes it rolls straight and allows you to walk freely.
The scorecard holder, drink and storage compartment are great and very handy.

The only bad thing is the extra room they take to transport, but I can live with that.

What do you mean by “commit to your shots” ?

Also earlier you said that you currently commit to about 60% of your shots, but feel it should be around 98%. How do you improve your Commiting % to shots ?

Topic: Golf Talk / Would you rather a low handicap or play a harder course

I was under the impression that the handicap should be calculated off the ACR, so it should reflect your ability on a course that you’re familiar with.

That said, I’d prefer to play on a tougher course.

I think the ACR is a good indicator but how accurate is it ?

On the weekend the wind was blowing so granted teh conditions were tough but looking at the results I saw a fair number of 7-12 handicappers bring home scores in the high 90’s and a few at 100-103.

The ACR I think only generally varies between 3 or so +/- (ie 69-75) for say a par 72 course or can it be much more ?

I’m hoping that constantly playing on a harder course will make me a better player, which means when I do venture away from home I should in most cases be able able to beat my handicap and hopefully clean up the cash, rather than having a low cap and playing on a harder course and being + 8 or so.

Topic: Golf Talk / Would you rather a low handicap or play a harder course

I was having a discussion with mate of similar ability to me. I noticed that his handicp is 8 points lower than mine. However when ever we play it is touch and go who wins.
I said that I would rather play on harder course than have a lower handicap on a track which is far simpler or less punishing when you mis the fairways or greens.
EG. I know that if I miss a fairway, then the ball will be lost of have to chip out, but on his course if you miss the fairway by 10 metres you still get a shot at the green most times

what do you guys think ? Would you rather play off a low mark, or feel that you play on a tough course where your handicap will hold up on most courses.

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Top three reasons for supporting your home course??

Milhouse,
The shares at nearly 20K are a bit too steep for me at the moment, so I did not buy one, just leased one of a member not using theirs. I’m just paying the annual subs ($2700) which are very similar to all other private clubs, but I feel great value as I have 3 courses to choose to play.

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Top three reasons for supporting your home course??

SJGC,
I’m not touchy, but I read your question about joining National as maybe there was some problems there, or it is not a good fit for new members.

Socks,
I’ve only been there for a short while, but members can play on any course any day. Courses are rotated for members guests daily with 1 course nominated as members only.
There are several comps 4 times a week, on each course. I have not played in any yet so I don’t know the final workings of these yet, but hopefully will soon.

Its great having three courses to choose. Just this Saturday, I rang up at 6.45 to check for a tee slot and got in at 8.00am.

While my preference would have been to join Peninsula as it is closer to home and between home and work, the joining process is difficult if you do not know a member. From initial discussions with the club I was lead to believe they have a committee for new members to join on a temporary basis and to then get to know members who can nominate you for full membership.
But on following up enquiries I was basically told if you don’t know members tough titties, sorry but we can’t help in this regard.
This basically threw me off. Reading other posts I think there may be a waiting period of 6 months, which would be OK if the office informed you of this. Who knows maybe in a few months time they will call me to say my time is due, we will now look at your application.

All I can say is that from my first call to the National, they have been more than helpful with the full joining process and they actually called me back when they said they would, unlike a lot of other coures who I talked to in the research for membership.

Whats wrong with the National. After not getting a look in at Peninsula It was clearly the next best option fro me.

I am just starting out by leasing a share to begin with. But so far I’m really enjoying it down there ?
Is there something you know about the place that i’m not seeig thus far ??

National Golf Club

Positive
1. 3 Great courses all rated in top 50 in Oz.

2. Good practise facilty with free range balls

3. Superb Club house and great admin staff to assist you.

Negative

1. Hard to find balls in the rough, but that will teach me to hit more fairways.

2. 30 minutes from home and 1 hour from work

3. Little protection from the weather, especially the wind.
