Topic: Golf Equipment / Smoothy vs Clic Gear I was at this crossroad a while back. Smoothy buggies went on sale and now I have no regrets. Glad I didn’t go for Clic Gear ‘cos the Smoothy’s features and ease of use far outweigh extra boot space. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / WILSON Di,Ci.Pi 7 I have a set of Di7’s, FYbrids and Spine. Graphite shafts. I also tried a bunch of clubs in the shop over a few different sessions and the Wilson Staffs won hands down for my price range. Personally I’ve found the FYbrid fairway drivers to be outstanding and the Spine driver even better than those. Have had a few niggles with them and the 3H, but that’s been human error. Give ‘em a whack and see what you think. Mine are also ½” shorter than standard. |

Topic: Sports Talk / Carlton It’s the fact that Carlton beat Collingwood twice this year that makes it sweeter. Any team that beats the Pies earns a week off my shit list ;) |

Topic: Sports Talk / Carlton The fact that it was the Pies they beat twice makes it all the sweeter. I wish more teams would beat them. ;) I still reckon they’ve got two more wins left in them. |

Topic: Sports Talk / Carlton Woohoo! Welcome to the top eight, boys :D If you’d told me earlier this year they’d make it up there this year I would have called bullshit. I realise it’s a tough run into the finals and they’re not likely to stay in the eight, but they’ve exceeded my expectations so far. A great game. Loved the final quarter. Which Blues supporter wouldn’t?! Fev had an odd game… 8 goals and five behinds. Doesn’t matter if he boots half of those in the final quarter. They still count :) Now just 3 goals behind Lance Franklin in the goal tally, with Franklin potentially looking at suspension. They’re defintely getting better. Like in the last Pies match, Thornton was surprising. If you’d told me earlier this year that I’d come to respect him as a player, I’d have called bullshit on that too! Great performances all ‘round – exceptional work from Scotland, Betts and Stevens. |

Topic: Sports Talk / Carlton No offence Gribbles, but I don’t think that’s a fair statement. Many teams put two players on Fev to shut him down. In that sort of scenario, Carlton have a loose man, yet they still have difficulty getting it up forward. Regardless of how much pressure is on Fev, he’s not going to be able to make an impact if they can’t get the ball to him. To echo my previous posts and also The_Vicar’s post, it seems pretty clear to me that the biggest problem is turnovers. I’m hoping that Carlton flog the Pies again, but to contradict one thing I just said, I don’t think Malthouse will make the same mistake as last time by puttin a single, inexperienced defender on Fevola. Although I do believe that the last game was rigged and that this one will be too – for a Colling wood win. |

Topic: Sports Talk / What the hell is Sepaktakraw? It is the game that’s similar to volleyball. Literal translation is to “kick cane”. Pronounced “Sepuk Tark Raw” (roll your arse when you say Raw). The ball is actually made from Rattan cane, not bamboo. Rattan is much more flexble, so it’s less likely to break when being kicked. I have a few lying around. When I lived in Darwin I used to watch a lot of guys playing this on the school ovals. Impressive stuff. The serves are most impressive. One drunken night in Phuket, I bumped into a bunch of local guys drinking beer and kicking a bola takraw hacky-sack style. They invited me to play after accidentally kicking it in my direction and I kicked it straight back (years of hacky-sack practise on my part). Joined in until sunrise. One of the most memorable nights I’ve had. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Its not really golf talk but..... I’m having a bloody great day. Slept in ‘till 10AM. Started work at 12. Almost finished now. So tiring. I was going to go and play golf but I did that yesterday and shot a shocker of a round. I think I’ll just go upstairs in a few mins and watch a movie or have a siesta (I work from home). Those horrible evil bastards. Why can’t they stay at home and just send cash every now and again? Working from home is great. I can defer (some of) my work ‘till after dark and spend my daylight hours golfing. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Golfing pet hates I’d be happy to play off the yellow ones if some of them weren’t so far apart. Mind you I’d be less happy about playing off them after someone got all shirty about it like that lady did. Being nice and friendly goes a long way. Like I said, I’m still a member. I don’t see why the fact that I don’t play comp should exclude me from using the blue markers. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Golfing pet hates Joey I had a similar experience last week. Was by myself, birdied the first hole and caught up to a pair in front. Their drives were .. unfortunate. They started walking down the fairway so I stopped them and asked if I could play through. They were reluctant and clearly weren’t happy about it. Fluked a monster drive way down the fairway, finishing also about 40M from the green. One guy started asking questions “did you mean to hit it there?”.. “How long have you been playing”, etc, etc. Great to do that when it really counts. The other thing that gets up my goat is comp members who think they own the course. Had one lady come up to me and tell me to play off the yellow markers ‘cos “the ground around the blue markers is in poor condition”. In some cases the yellow markers were up to 50M ahead of the blue markers. I’m a member. I choose not to play comp ‘cos the concentration of wankers in comp at that course seems to be high. I told her it’s up to the course management to move markers so that damaged patches can recover. She harped on a bit more so I told her to take it up with the course owner. I knew he’d tell her where she could stick her clubs. |

Topic: Sports Talk / carn the blues!!!!! Ever since Eddie joined the team I thougt it was obvious that he had something special to offer. Have said it a few times in this forum too. I think he’s vastly under-rated. It seems like the commentators expect more out of him or simply don’t recognise his ability. I think he’s still a way off his peak. Definitely looking forward to many more years of Eddie Betts excitement :) |

Topic: Golf Talk / Golfing pet hates When you’re by yourself and catch up to a slow group and they have no intention of letting you past at the next tee. Even worse when it’s on the first 4 holes. You shouldn’t have to ask to play through. When you lose a ball and are quite certain it’s irretrievable but your playing partner insists on spending 10 more minutes looking for it. Dude, it’s lost. The little bastard ball doesn’t like me and I don’t like it. Just leave it, will ya. People who are playing on a different hole and hit their ball on your fairway, then stand next to their ball while they wait for a bunch of players in front of them to clear, despite the fact that you’re clearly waiting for them to move off your (clear) fairway. Wait on your own fairway and then get your ball after we pass. |

Topic: The Lounge / Hit by golf ball Barry and Dave are out playing golf. Barry hits a shocker. Hooks straight into the scrub. After about a minute of fossicking around for the ball, they hear a woman in the distance yell “FORE!”. THUD Dave goes down in a heap with his hands between his legs, writhing in pain. The woman rushes over to them and says to Dave “I’m so sorry about that! I’m a qualified nurse, if you let me massage you, it should help ease the pain”. Dave nods, still groaning. The woman massages Dave’s crotch for a few minutes and then asks “How was that?” Dave replies “Great, but my hand still hurts!“ |

Topic: Sports Talk / carn the blues!!!!! Fev gave out plenty of good leads but they weren’t capitalised on. Time and time again, turnovers were costing the blues points. That and getting thrashed in centre clearances. It’s worth noting that from quarter time onwards, the blues matched Brisbane point for point. The damage was done in Q1. A good overall effort considering the lopsided clearances. Judd was uninspiring, barely got a touch in the first half. I was impressed with Heath Scotland though. |

Topic: The Lounge / I've been doing some thinking lately I used to think it was a good movie, but I watched it again recently and changed my mind. Anyone who’s into gaming might enjoy using the sniper rifle in FarCry. Oldish game, but one of the best for multiplayer jungle warfare. |

Topic: Sports Talk / Big "V" versus "The dream Team" I thought I was being realistic about it. Last year in about half of their losses they looked good too. In the other half they out and out got thrashed, but even in those they showed glimpses of brilliance. Granted this year they look better, but from each of the games I’ve seen (win or lose), they’ve had considerable periods of time where they couldn’t seem to take a mark (usually due to poor kicking) or kept passing to players in contest, resulting in turnovers. It happened late in the Collingwood match too, but they were lucky that Collingwood couldn’t seem to get it together either. Until they sort that out, they can expect turnovers and losses. I don’t see Fev as the problem. I see it being the passing in between the half back line and forward line. Too many turnovers resulting in goals. My opinion is that the Carlton team as a whole has more talent than Brisbane – courtesy of many high draft picks. It’s the melding as a team that’s not quite there yet. If they complete those kicks and passes in the middle over 80-90% of the time, Brisbane don’t stand a chance. If they can’t complete those passes, they’ll lose. Another point of interest – Carlton are odds-on favourites to win, despite Brisbane being higher on percentage. Tight odds though. |

Topic: Golf Talk / How did you all play this weekend? Went out on Saturday, shot 89. Wasn’t too happy with many of my shots. Some really bad chipping and a bunch of near misses with the putter. Went out on Sunday, shot 82. Fixed the chipping but my short approaches let me down. Missed some big putts by small margins and came out with what I consider a good score. Went out yesterday and shot 38 on the front nine. Four strokes better than my previous best. I was stoked. Seemed like everything was on song. Fluked two big putts to make birdies on both par 5’s. Never expected that I’d get so close to a par score. Shot 42 on the back nine, which included a double and a triple on the last two holes respectively. So close to breaking that 80 mark. I don’t expect to get another score like that for a while, but I won’t forget that front nine in a hurry. |

Topic: Sports Talk / Big "V" versus "The dream Team" I live near Brissie too, and I’d love nothing more to be able to rub it in if Carlton win. As Hozel says, should be a cracker. Honestly I don’t expect Carlton to win. The past few games I’ve seen, they simply haven’t had good enough pass/kick completion for me to be confident in saying they’ll win any matches – although I expect them to win at least one more match this year. The upside of that sort of viewpoint is that if they do win, it’ll be a real bonus :) |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Anyone use a Proforce V2? All of my clubs bar the putter have them. I love them. They’re great for my purposes anyway. Driver has HMOI regular flex. Woods and hybrid have standard V2, regular flex. Irons have standard V2, uniflex. I particularly like having V2’s in the irons. They feel so much easier to use and nicer to swing/hit than anything else that I’ve tried. |

Topic: iseekgolf Golf Days / Widebay golfers anyone up for a hit Which weekend is it again? 7-9 June yeah? I’m in Hervey Bay. If the Monday is a holiday I recommend playing at Maryborough. If you’ve played there before I’m sure you’ll agree. They’ll probably have a public holiday comp on, but usually they let social players start at about 1pm. |
