Topic: Golf Equipment / NEW UV X3 My Bridgestone WC Design Liquid Copper (spin milled) wedge’s grooves are starting to blunten a little but it is still capable of tearing chunks and shredding balls after 4 months! The original xpert2 ball cops a hiding. The UV fair a bit better. I would be keen to see how the X3 goes. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Driving distance I am consistently hitting 240-250m straight and a few 270-280m tailwinders! I switched from a 9.0 Stiff to a 10.5 deg Reg and slowed my swing from 102mph-109mph to 89-95mph and absolutely ripping it now. Hitting it straighter and longer than ever. So much easier to get pars and birdies from the fairways!!! I often just use 3 wood which I launch 220m deadstraight which is good enough for me. Also using a suitable ball helps. Vision UV’s do the trick. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / S-Yard As an aficionado of Jap golf gear there are is a lot of mythology regarding such rare brands but TGR is right they are made by seiko and are very expensive. I actually hit a T9 driver a country mile once but really they are a game improvement club. The shaft was reportedly worth $800 in the club I hit. I saw a doco when on hols once about Honma and other Jap manufacturers and they hand roll graphite shafts etc etc, hand grinded irons etc etc. Most of the heads are cast game improvement clubs with the odd forged head and targeted towards the “more money than sense” crowd or the all the gear and no idea hence not much PGA tour exposure. These brands are huge in Japan. Maruman actually once sponsored Laura Davies! Honma have a sub brand called Beres which sponsors a chinese golfer that played at the masters. However I also read somewhere that Jap spec clubs are weighted a little lighter as most asian men (except yao ming) have trouble swinging “anglo” spec clubs as most asians are of smaller frame (not racist, I am an chinese aussie actually but have no trouble due to my protein rich upbringing!) You can demo S Yard clubs at Golf Paradise aka Terrey Hills driving range (not the golf club but the one on myoora road). Mizuno, Bridgestone, Miura and perhaps Epon are a better pick for the money but if you have a seiko watch and wanna have the whole seiko thing well spend the cash… if you like jap gear have a look on tourspecgolf.com but the prices blow me away! I am a jap gear fan but have yet to find the perfect totally jap putter (mizuno putters are TP Mills or Bettinardi) hence I play a Ping Zing |

Topic: Golf Talk / Senior Flex? I am no expert but from my micro knowledge of golf gear i think seniors flex is described for players with a driver head speed of between 70 to under 80 mph. don’t quote me but I have been researching for the wife that is too tall for ladies flex so seniors flex is an option but her clubhead speed is about 66-69mph… |

Topic: Golf Talk / Who's the most famous golfer you have played golf with? I bought my first set of clubs from Peter Lonard when he was club pro at Oatlands in 1995 and he said I will throw in a free lesson too mate. At the lesson he said you got some time, lets play 9 and let me show you around. He showed me how to play bunkers, short game, everything. All this cause I bought a second hand set of clubs off him for $400. 5 holes later his phone rings and he headed back to the pro shop and he said I will see you when you finish. I then bought a putter off him at the end of it all and he gave me a putting lesson on the practice green while he practiced as well and then also offered to refer me for membership as he said “not too many young guys here, I would love to have you in the club”. Unfortunately I did not take up his offer as I was working funny hours in the hospo industry but I have been a fan of his ever since. In my opinion one of the nicest and most genuine guys around. Very down to earth guy. He was recovering from Ross River Virus at the time. Top bloke…. |

Topic: Golf Talk / What visitors want I play a few nice courses from time to time as well as expereince a lot of country hospitality and all I want is 2 small things: Smiles and access. Friendly staff that are sincere and willing to help and being able to get full access to everything the members get i.e. locker rooms, bars etc makes me happy. |

Topic: Golf Talk / How did you all play this weekend? My only time I will contribute to this thread… why? stepped up to the 12th today at Castle Cove, its a very short par 4, 240-260m, not quite sure. Anyway I thought, forget the game plan of a 4 iron layup in front of the big mound, lets pull out the driver and go for it…. Well I ripped it and it bounced slightly off the bank off the back of the bunker and onto the green… OK iwas happy the guys on the green were surprised…. I get up there and they say nice shot, you wanna putt out? I said why, and their faces were white and they pointed to my ball which was 5cm from the hole… they told me I rolled on hit the flag and went around the hole and spat out just to the right side… tough luck I missed an Albatross! I got the eagle though! Finished my round for square for my handicap… so close but… thats life, it goes down on the scorecard as a 2…. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / old equipment/ new equipment So what you are saying is that it was unfair for me to dump upon my dear wife my 14 year old set of prosimmon “perimter weighted” sticks and buy myself a shiny set of forged CB’s??? ooops… mind you she does have a new driver albeit 380cc…. I must be living in the past…. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Whats the ruling - IN a house Ahhhhh the age old question… who pays… I would say walk away from it all but generally some clubs will pay out of goodwill to keep the peace with neighbours… but i bet those whinging neighbours would be the first to say when they describe their home that it “backs onto a golf course” as a boast to mates… As for the cricket field problem its even better when you hit a six and it damages the bowlers’ car.. did that once. twas a supreme stroke and quite frankly pure luck… if I mistimed would of been lbw or leading edge lollipop back to bowler… |

Topic: Golf Talk / Has golf ever hurt you? Bruised ego is the worst I have suffered… you know that feeling on the tee first at a work function and everyone is watching. 3 big warm up swings and then you step up and swing and well the ball might move 2 metres… |

Topic: Golf Equipment / New putter If you are going super premium putters there are a few others you may want to add to your list like the Yes!, Mizuno Bettinardi, Guerin Rife….. try before you buy…...and take your time… you will use your putter most likely twice as many times as your driver in a round! |

Topic: Golf Talk / Tiger wins the golfers "HTFU" award Has anyone done a calc of if Phil Mick wins every tournament from here on in how many he has to win to become world number 1 and in how many weeks. With or without a meidcal exemption I think Tiger would be sitting pretty for about 4-5 months at least. Is he defending many points? If he goes sub 10 in world ranking points I will be putting him in my ISG Vision Tipping comp team and 3 other gumps perhaps ranked 400th or worse! |

Topic: Golf Equipment / what wedge would you recommend any if the new generaton of spin milled or CNC machined grooves as previously stated is going to tear balls apart… I have had mine in play for over 6 weeks sometimes more than twice a week and they have not been bluntened and regularly tear balls apart and to shreds and in some cases barely impart more noticeable spin! although I must say I am getting the hang of them now, had to make a small adjustment in alignment and ball placement…. could not work it out but the balls seemed to fly out a lot lower than my prev LW and SW. dunno if it was cause of different bounce or different flex shafts or swingweight… so changed setup and getting used to them now… not ideal but…. I switched from Tourstage Z Forged to Bridgestone WC Design Liquid Copper wedges… |

Topic: Golf Talk / New Project Started! kind of reminds me of murals on panelvans really….. Actually i would prefer a full set of clubs with Kevin “F’ing” Rudd’s face laser etched into the clubface…. not quite relief at the bowser but would make me feel warm and fuzzy each time I hit that sweetspot…. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Strange Happenings at the course Not me, but one of my playing partners saw a Kookaburra dive bomb a row of ducklings and for his efforts he had the one on the end for breakfast. I turned to him and he looked at me and was white and said did you see that. All I saw was the kooka flying off… Also I hit a Cocktaoo once in a social round, got him on the underbelly with a 3 wood about 60m from an elevated tee with a Vision UV which matched his sulphur crest! |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Pull buggy - health issue I push my two wheel buggy however I must admit it has its hazards. Had plenty a near miss when the end has dug in and I have kept on walking into it and winding myself at worst. I often think if I had an umbrella strapped in and the possibilities of this happening and ending up with a “Funniest Home Videos” moment with the handle embedded in one’s groin…. I will take my chances.. i bought a 3 wheel smoothy but the wife uses it… |

Topic: Golf Equipment / titleist V1 / V1x The X has a firmer feel and does not spin as much off the driver. They say its better suited to higher swing speeds. They also say that the ProV1 has a more durable cover than the X. Expensive balls they are! Also match one of those balls against a spin milled wedge with cnc machined grooves and well you will be lucky to last 6 holes! so many balls get shaved and shredded. |
