Topic: iseekgolf Golf Days / Charity golf tournament in Melbourne: Open to all Hi everyone, I’m organsing a charity golf tournament around 4 courses in Melbourne and was wondering if anyone was interested in joining. Course / Dates are: 1) Ivanhoe Golf Course – Sunday 31 Aug (tee off first group at 10:00am) Note: There is a $50 registration fee which will go towards an embroided polo shirt, golf goodies to start off with and the purchasing of trophies / prizes. There will both be traditional (closest to pin etc) prizes with a few funny prizes thrown in too! The chaity involved is St Vincent De Paul. ABOVE ALL, this is a fun, social event for a good cause and will be a good chance to meet fellow golfers around Melbourne. All are welcome to join! |

Topic: Sports Talk / AFL! I want to get into it - but now it's too soft! I’m quite new to the whole AFL scene and living in Victoria, I really do want to get into it as I’ve always been a fan on contact sports (like rugby as I played for 5 years myself up until 2 years ago). But I’ve noticed in watching a few games that it really is a “softened” contact sport. Case in point – Lance Frankin suspension! It’s a very fast contact sport, you don’t have a chance to “think” out there. When he bumped the Adelaide guy (sorry, not sure of the name!), he went for a hip & shoulder (I’ve been told that it’s legitamate part of the game) and the ONLY reason why he hit the guy in the head was because of teammate of his was tackling the Adelaide guy to the ground! And he gets a week for that? I went further – and looked at old footage (thanks YouTube) of people like Dermie (VERY surprised at how tough he was, considering all the cosmetic surgery he’s had done today!) and other guys like Dipper and some others (don’t know their names unfortunately). These guys were just plain and simply HARD guys who played the game the way it was meant to – HARD! I honestly expect players to withdraw from attacking the ball now in fear that they MAY hit someone hard and get penalised or even more so, SUSPENDED! Bring back the good ole days – I’d definitely be a fan back then! |

Topic: Golf Classifieds / WTB: Irons set - looking at $800 (max!) for decent set Hi muntz, yes i’d look at the cobras more for me. i think my mate needs a graphite shaft as his clubhead speed is a little slow (although as a baseball player of 6 years, his hand-eye co-ordination is right on). In saying that, I’m no pro – but in getting it measured, my clubhead speed is (by the measurement chart definition) fast. If only I could hit it straighter with more consistency – then again, that’s the name of the game isn’t it?! :) |

Topic: Golf Classifieds / WTB: Irons set - looking at $800 (max!) for decent set You’re right davego, it will be an expensive exercise – I’m already telling him not to get current model clubs at retail golf shops (salespeople would eat him up as he would more than likely buy into the sales pitch hype!!!). Instead, i told him that i’d ask around here for any decent sets – as evidence by the Cobra set, there are some very good deals around. So good I’M thinking about getting the Cobra set ;-) |

Topic: Golf Classifieds / WTB: Irons set - looking at $800 (max!) for decent set davego, completely understand what you’re saying. I’m of the same attitude. He just think it’ll give him confidence when going up to hit the ball. He definitely won’t “pose” with them (I wouldn’t play with him if he was like that). |

Topic: Golf Classifieds / WTB: Irons set - looking at $800 (max!) for decent set I don’t expect to get brand new equipment but near new. Also, probably need to clarify…$800 is the MAXIMUM he’ll go. If someone has a decent set for something cheaper (say $600 or so) and it’s good value for money, he’ll definitely consider them. As with anything, the cheaper the offering price, the greater the chance he’ll buy them. |

Topic: Golf Classifieds / WTB: Irons set - looking at $800 (max!) for decent set Realistically, I think he wants one of the major brands because he likes the idea of having good equipment. Not saying that Lind is not good (far from it!), but as a beginner, he’d just feel more comfortable getting one of the big name brands (also realising that he’ll have to pay extra for it too). |

Topic: Golf Classifieds / WTB: Irons set - looking at $800 (max!) for decent set Hi everyone, Thought I might give this a try for a mate of mine who wants to buy a decent pair of irons for around the $800 mark. Definitely need clubs that have good forgiveness as he’s a beginner and preferably graphite shaft. Lie/length/grip all regular. Not really fussed about brands and the such but am looking to get one with very good value. If someone has a set that is also half decent for a lower offering price than $800, the chances of purchase are higher. Thanks for looking everyone. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Tiger: The Power and the Passion
Yeah that’s a fair point. I guess it takes a lot of mental strength FOR ME to be on a putting green for 3 hours or so whilst for them, putts really can make the difference between a good round and a great round (which translates in hundred of thousands of dollars!) I’m sure the drive to be the best and beat their competitors is what really drives them. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Tiger: The Power and the Passion The undisclosed coach response to the player just puts into perspective what it takes to be like Tiger. I guess we only see him on the course and never see his workout routine and what he does on the range and gym to get to where he is. I can’t believe he puts for three hours (if that is true!) It takes a ridiculous amount of mental strength and focus to practice putting for 3 hours every time you’re out there. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Who is your Masters tip Can’t deny that Tiger’s recent run will put him as front runner to win again. But I love how Geoff Ogilvy has come into his own this past few tournaments – including ending Tiger’s run. As someone that loves comebacks, I’d love Adam Scott to take it out. People are discounting him after withdrawing from Houston – it’d be a great story if he can win it. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Centre Shafted putters - ????? I’ve used a centre shafted putter for quite some time now and I think it’s great! I believe it all has to do with personal preference, kind of like people who use a broomstick putter. There’s no right or wrong solution to it, again, all a matter of personal preference. |

Topic: Sports Talk / rugby union the most boring sport known to man..discuss Hehehe…it’s actually quite ironic, there’s a statement that rugby union is a boring sport…on a GOLFING website? I play both sports so find them equally as interesting…but if I showed my rugby union mates (who don’t play golf) this post, they’d just laugh and say “Well, how can a golfer say that?” Then they’d realise that you’re a Pom too and it’s all over… |

Topic: Golf Talk / Golfing in the rain - how many do it? I love playing in light rain, except when it makes the course soft and thus lots of mud balls. But regardless, there isn’t any condition I haven’t played in. Well, I lie – I haven’t played in snow. Hey, if it’s good enough for the pros to play in, I’ll play in it. |
