Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Metung (Vic) Golf I played there about a year ago. Nice course, well maintained and challenging for a 9 holer. Fairways and greens were in good condition, good facilities and freindly staff. Would reccomend the effort if you are in the area. Agree also with Lakes Entrance, great course. |

Topic: Golf Talk / clothes for bigger than normal guys Ashworth clothes are designed for the “bigger than average” western male. Their pants sizes are very accommodating in the rear boot and their shirts are a size bigger than normal (eg a L in Ashworth is an XL in any other brand). |

Topic: Golf Equipment / How Do You Bend A Putter Shaft?
One of the funniest things I have seen is Woody Austin doing that after missing a put a few years back. That and him face planting into the water at the Presidents last year… |

Topic: Golf Talk / WHICH RANGES HAVE GRASSED HITTING AREAS Its tougher than it looks. From the Qbn web site: 13 (Par 5) Long Par 5 APPROACH SHOT LAY UP – Once again this fairway slopes slightly to the left. It is a good idea to be on the left hand side of this fairway, as it produces the best angle up this green. Overhanging branches may play havoc with a ball on the right hand side of the fairway. A big bunker short to the left of this green is to be steered clear of, however, any shots hit up the right hand side will catch a mound and run toward the green. |

Topic: Golf Talk / WHICH RANGES HAVE GRASSED HITTING AREAS Just on that, Qbn used to have a range, it was along the road to Googong dam near Fairlane Estate. Had 2 big signs, one with a picture of John Howard and one of Paul Keeting that you could have target practice at. My brother was banned from using driver there because he kept putting balls over the back fence… |

Nope its just a dogleg left fairway, with a green and bunker at the end. Bring your own balls. |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Swinging vs. Hitting based on body type G’day Guru(s) I have a question about the swinging style vs. a hitting style based on someone’s body type. Would one action be preferable over the other for example if someone is tall and lean, or short and stocky? Or should body type not matter? |

Topic: Golf Talk / Murrumbidgee Country Club
Larry is living down in Merimbula. He is working at either Pambula-Merimbula or Tura Beach Golf club, not sure which one. Last time I spoke with him he said he was sick of the tour and wanted to settle down for a few years, and see what happens. He still plays in a few Pro-am’s, he played in the Qbn Pro-am earlier this year. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / NEW UV X3 A bit off topic but on the topic of Crows, I usually hit a shag bag of balls at an oval near my work at lunch times. About a month ago a crow was collecting my balls after I hit them, he ended up getting about 5, and took each of them to a near by house and was dropping them down the guttering downpipe. Strange bird. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Got a suprise in the mail yesterday I don’t like the idea of hitting from different markers for different handicap ranges. It throws the whole handicap system out the window when you do that. The handicap is structured so you are rated based on your ability to play a course over particular hole distances. These distances need to be the same for everyone regardless of if they can complete the course in 70 stokes or in 110 strokes. That’s why you have a handicap, to even the gap between good players and not so good players. By changing the distance to the hole based on the handicap you are on, you completely change the structure of a handicap, and make the system unfair for both low and high handicap players alike. If you change the current system as you suggest, you will see a large number of high handicappers all of a sudden fall into a lower handicap bracket, and have to go back to playing off the back markers with the low handicappers anyway. You will see players bouncing back and forward between the markers as their handicap comes in and goes out based on distances. And distance isn’t the only reason someone hay have a high handicap. Someone could drive the ball as long as tiger but if it takes them 5 shots to put the ball in the hole from 100m out changing the distance to the hole isn’t going to help much. This I believe applies for both men and women. Women generally cant hit the ball as far as the men. If you handicap the low handicappers further by making them hit off the mens tees, you wont see a true reflection of a players abilities. Only a refletion on how far they can hit a ball. Congrats on winning the balls though. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Golf Club memberships must change I think a big issue for alot of people is up front fees. 1-2K up front per year is a big hit for most people, clubs could attract more people by offering pay by the month memberships, simmilar to gym memberships and other sporting memberships. $100 a month would be alot easier for most to handle than a lump sum up front. I know there is a few 3rd parties out there such as Pay as you Golf that offer monthly payments, but they are more a finance lender who pay the club the up front fees then charge you (plus interest) monthly installments to repay the loan. I’d much rather pay it directly to the club than give it to a middle man. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Titleist...NOT OF MERCHANTABLE QUALITY I wont buy a bag that is made by a major brand, they just get them made a cheaply as they can and slap a name on the side, and charge top dollar for it. I go for a bag that is made by a bag manufacturer. My current bag is a Eagles Birdies bag, great quality and well designed. And cheaper than one with a name on the side. |
