Topic: Golf Talk / How To Rate Golf Courses

Jack I would appreciate receiving a copy .. could you pls send to bobharry1342 at hotmail.com

As previously mentioned .. you just need to be able to rate the raters!! HC does that to an extent.

Topic: Golf Talk / How To Rate Golf Courses

Oh The_Phantom u do not get do u!!! let single figure HCP rate the courses for single figure HCP’s. If I rate the course down the road better and more enjoyable to play then Royal Melbourne, which is rated the best course for me? I would be an elitist golfer (pounce) to say RM. Golf is for enjoyment and each player perceives it differently. Thats the beauty of the game.

Topic: Golf Talk / How To Rate Golf Courses

Yes Jack … I play 15 to 20 different courses a year and would be interested in having a system to rate courses. I place higher value on a course I like and not what has a higher rating by others. eg Concord and NSW are not as enjoyable for me to play as say Pennant Hills or Ryde Parramatta.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Photography

Hi Norm .. well done .. there is this always the toss up … do you shot indoors and gain maximum clarity or shot outdoors and lose some of that clarity but gain atmosphere. Probably ashame it was a sunny day.

I know this is not your call, but I personally like to see the top of the bag layout on all of them. You get to see the front pocket 12 times and not one of the top, where you put your clubs (3 of the 6 bags). Maybe thats just me!!

oops I sound negative .. great job ..I’m envious as I love combining golf and photography. ps and I wish I owned an E&B bag.

I’m laughing at the idea that at this stage of having to put a mark on a uv ball to distringuish it from others … ok I know u do not do it for that reason..but still made me smile .. sounds like slightly different material??

Topic: Golf Talk / Funny Golf Incidents

I did not find this funny but others certainly did.. my buggy careered down an embankment and ended up in the dam on 16th at Port Kembla. I had to jump in after it and retreive buggy clubs and bag. It give the 100 or so people who attended the day a great laugh.

It is still painful, maybe I will see funny side one day, but I did learnt something and thats the only reason I’m repeating. I had the pocket with wallet, mobile and keys completely zipped ..and it was 100% wet tight. Obvious it scarred me for life as I today this day zip up this pocket, even on sunny days on courses that have no water that I or my bag could fall into.

Topic: Golf Talk / Judging Distance

Kogarah redevelopment is under way. They are keeping a few of the southern holes, but basically all moving south. Yep you do get the excitement of looking at the under belly of landing planes and the smell of av fuel.

I play so many different courses I need to have distance markers as do not get the “feel” of a regular course.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Bags aint Bags

I have seen a E&B bag with individual holes and they are numbered. I like that idea but can not find any reference to the bag on the net. Many someone can point me in the right direction!!

Topic: Golf Equipment / Vision Golf Ball Test

I have not thought this through fully .. how about a round box (ok not cheapest way to go) and inside there is spiral partition.. one ball wide with 12 balls in a line spiralling into cenre.. on the top, and on outer edge, there is a flap that allows one ball out at a time ..different .. not sure if practical .. I would be happy with a material bag that has a draw string at the top that holds 12 balls

I’m a big supporter of footjoy and buying direct from states. I searched ebay and found a place in QLD .. got my dryjoys for $118 including delivery. I may have got cheaper o/s but just pleased to have them. How CAN a shoe be so comfortable?

I may get howled down for this comment … I have received quite a few freebies (as well as purchased a coule of dozen). I would be keen to actually purchase the X3’s even to continue trials. I know there is problems selling direct when trying to allow pro shops and Rebel make their cut but you would think there should be a “Iseekgolf” special group. Just a thought.

Topic: Golf Talk / golf cart injury

worse I heard of … guy saw a crow go for his drive so jumped in cart and hit accelerator before fully in. The cart hit a bump and throw him out except his right foot went under brake and heel stayed on accelerator. His body was flung around and hit back of cart, major damge was done to his shoulder with separation of muscle( or whatever) from the bone.

He was dragged along, with his leg “cork screwing” and breaking.

He went home from hospital 3 months later in a wheelchair.

Never ever chasesd a crow again.

He did not die ..but geesh close!!!

Topic: Golf Equipment / Vision Golf Ball Test

I feel like a “born again” uv believe .. haven’t quite got to go door to door yet!

One thing I noticed a week ago .. playing in the wet .. the UV seems to jump through the greens (n yet the greens were softish). I can normal pull a 5i up fairly quickly in dry conditions. Is this because the spin generation with UV balls in the wet is less then standard balls? or do u think it would have happened with any ball I used?

Topic: Golf Talk / Balls & distances at driving range

OK one of my hobby horses. You can check distances via google earth. At my range, The Ridge, the distance markers can be measured to within 0.5 metres. I will have to now compare the two next time I’m there.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Vision Golf Ball Test

I still get ribbed about the UV ball .. a guy in our group usually has a snide remark about the colour etc .. half way round I passed him on the 9th and he was not doing too well so I said “OK try one of the practice balls and tell me what you think”. He was then next group in front and on about the 12th he hit the longest drive (240m) and then on the 14th he hit the green to within 3 m and I saw him sink the putt for a birdie. He is off 20 so these were out of the ordinary for him. He did not say a word to me. He lost it in dam on the last. Oh well I had my smile. I will expect few comments again from him. Of course the ball did not do the shots but then again it did not stop him from hitting his best drive of the year or from getting a birdie.

I have found a UV ball that I have used for a round not in balance. Not sure why

Topic: Golf Talk / Playing in Pro-Ams

I have only played in one pro-am and the pro cheated .. I still feel sick in the stomach to this day as I marked his card and i knew he cheated. The only saving face for me was that he was about to get a new driver from the rep and tried to sell his old one. He was in my ear all day about paying $500 for his driver. In the end I said no thanks mine is just fine .. I then hit a 240 m drive in middle of fairway and his was just behind and in rough. That was the last of that conversation. I followed Nick Flanagan in a pro-am and walked with his mother and sister. He shot a 62. I can still remember most of the shots. Most enjoyable day.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Vision Golf Ball Test

I was playing in Bali and I came across a Japanese golfer playing a UV ball .. I went over to it and it was a Srixon. First ball I have seen like it other than the vision.

I had a “win” the other day. My golfing partners usually give me hard time about my using a “range ball”. I hit my yella fella 250m on the fly and straight. I’m lucky to get 200 – 215m normally. Topic was changed and I just smiled.

I was nearly as pleased when I picked up a couple of dozen from Rebel with a 20% discount.

Looking forward to the next stage in the ball development.

Topic: Golf Talk / Google Earth to Measure Course

You are right Whitednj ..its ok when the resolutions are good .. Sydneys got upgraded in early 2007. I think the accuracy is ok because I checked a few holes against the card and were within 1%, which is more likely to be landmark selection error. It does fall down on the sensitivity of the elevation. all in all just a fun toy

Topic: Golf Talk / Google Earth to Measure Course

OK Lintz since you asked (had my fingers crossed all day waiting) 251 m and straight.. virtual all on the fly .. a very good drive for me is 215 m when I get to 220 m I stand there admiring for at least 15 15 seconds.. the guy I played with had bought a Callaway X driver and could not use it although only tried it 3 times..wanted to sell it for $200 .. I had used it on few holes with straight 220 to 240m drives … at the end I rushed into Club house and withdraw the money .. I’m getting as bad with drivers as the missus is with shoes

Topic: Golf Talk / Google Earth to Measure Course

I played on a course that I’m not that familiar with on the weekend. on the 2nd last hole I hit the best drive of my life and afterwards wondered how far I had hit it. The distance markers were virtually non existent. It then came to me that maybe I could look at the hole via google earth. And there it was. If you can remember where the tee box was set up and a landmark where the ball finsihed (which it did) then it can be measured to within as close as your landmarks (less then 500 mm accuracy is easy).

It is also 3 dimensional as it gives elevations. I have now started looking at other courses and examining holes. Like how far to a creek, how far to carry it, distance gained by cutting corner (it does not give tree heights unfortunately), how long greens are and distances to bunkers.

Just thought I would share this with you, someone may find it as interesting as I have.
