Muntz,
get a cd, lay slight off vertical imagaine the the shaft running around the disc, lay the disc flat, and take notice how much longer the face stays squarer, see if you can picture what I mean, Moe norman one of the best all strikers of all time had one of the flattest swing think about it.

Muntz,
Any fitter worth their salt will know to fit you to Proper Impact Alignments and if they are honest they will tell you the truth, and tell you to sort your swing first. But alot of fitters don’t give a dam they use fitting to make money,
If you were fitted and they didn’t work on your swing your were fitted for your golfing swing at the time not, Proper Impact alignments, if the whole fit wasn’t done in motions not good.
If this has happen go back and give them a boot in the arse they need it.

Forums seem to flush out angry types. This place used to be a war zone at times until we laid down the “play the idea but not the man” effort about 12mths ago and have been fairly strict with it. It’s made banter constructive and light hearted most of the time.

What is it with angry posters? – there have been a couple pop up recently…I quite like a bit of banter but being a tool for the sake of it is a little unproductive…Dart, maybe you beat this Naka fella out of some money in a Tourney a while ago and he is holding a grudge :)

Muntz, my advice to you is to not listen to some bunny at a golf club who claims to be a teacher of this game. There are too many out there with zap news and their ways? I am not a teacher of this game. I play it for a living.

Naka,

You do not have the emotional make up for a tour golfer.

Disagreeable and antagonistic is a long way from the calm and serene approach of the average tour player.

People as unhappy as you, usually have mechanical faults sticking in their life as well.

Get some help.

lol!

Dart, for an ‘old’ guy, you pwned that dude!

haha

If it feels stiff then there is too much pressure being applied. You will work it out on the range within a bucket.

Hacking Dog: Thanks for the big effort there.

Extensor action is so easy to overlook. How simple of an idea is it to keep the radius the same as it is at impact fix? Just sit back for a milli second and think of how many things can be screwed up if the club head comes back at at different level!

It is a bit like setting up to the ball. There is little excuse to get something so simple wrong:)

From the 6th Edition:
6-B-1-D. Extensor Action is exclusively the steady effort to straighten the bent Right Arm. This stretches but does not move the Left Arm and produces structural rigidity that is a strong deterrent to collapse under the stresses of Acceleration and Impact. It is in operation from Impact Fix to the end of the Follow-through. In addition, this action promotes:
-1. the full extension of the Left Arm at all times
-2. the full extension of the right Arm for the Follow-through
-3. the correct rate of “Clubhead Closing”
-4. the proper type of support for “passive”(non-accelerating) Clubhead Lag Pressure involving Wristcock
Except with Zero Accumulator #3 the “stretch” direction is always Below Plane. Because of Extensor Action, the Right Triceps can never be totally “passive”.....

My opinions concerning Extensor Action:
Starting off, some people will have to feel this by keeping your left arm straight, this is better than nothing, but learn to do it by using your right tricept as Mr. Kelley suggested.
This is very much part of educating your hands.
Remember and learn that this action is below plane.
For most people, keeping this action from the top or end of your backswing through the initial acceleration is the hardest to keep, but the most important. When you learn this, you know how hard and how fast you can accelerate, it will be limited by your ability to keep your extensor action properly maintained through this time of your swing. You want to hit the ball further, learn to accelerate as fast as you can keeping your extensor action.
+ Proper extensor action will make a lot of swing ills magically go away.

There are a few other things I would like to say about extensor action, but this is enough for now (some might say too much). I will let you figure out the rest on your own. Hopefully the real teachers will chime in and help direct you with this.

Edit: I don’t know why some of this is underlined, I didn’t do it on purpose.

just watch yourself in those situations.

Its tragic how many ‘heroes’ have been beaten to death by youths in the UK in the last few years.

There have been a few cases where someone who has gone out to remonstrate with youths/vandals outside their own house have been kicked to death and their family had cradled them as they lie dying in the street. A golf course is even more remote and if you’re on your own, you could get injured and left for the buzzards!

Walk tall – but carry a big stick!

Yep…I am in that mould too Nidan. find a way to shoot around 80, sometimes just above sometimes just below.

Last few rounds have been 80, 86, 82, 78,78,78, 72, 82.

Sometimes I start well and finish poorly, sometimes I start poorly and finish well, and sometimes the game just goes off for a bit in the middle.

Reading Rotella at the moment so hopefully that will help, have to learn to stay in the process.

Muntz, you have shown yourself your own potential, now you just have to learn to get out of your own way, as do I!

Muntz,

Congrats on your progress. It sounds like you are on the verge of playing real well.

I think that you are going through what many of us go through when we are trying to break through a scoring barrier. We tend to think of ourselves as a certain type of player ( 80 shooter, 90 shooter, etc). It’s pretty remarkable how often we shoot the score we ‘think’ that we should shoot. Whether we start off hot or cold, our scores tend to end up about where they ‘should’. It’s got something to do with staying within our ‘comfort zone’. Since you now have a better technical game, I bet that pretty soon you will get comfortable shooting lower scores. The next time that you have a good round going, just tell yourself that this is what you have been working towards – that your good play is the expected result of hard work, not the result of playing over your head.

Hopefully not a false dawn that leads me up a blind alley, but it is an amazing feeling to be able to launch a pretty ordinary, used ball (Bridgestone E6) those sort of distances into a fair breeze without any ballooning. (I play an 8.5 deg TM R510 with stock S shaft. Starting to look like a leetle club compared to the standard 460 cc stuff around now.) Now I guess everyone else will go “bull$#@&”…

Reverse every natural instinct you have and do just the opposite of what you are inclined to do and you will probably come very close to having a perfect golf swing. – BEN HOGAN, POWER GOLF

Sometimes things just come together and perfection is the result…good shots and long drives aren’t just for touring pro’s the rest of us, not me yet, mortals get to play well occasionlly.

It’s been good reading your journey, very inspiring and keep going hard.

The other annoying thing (2) is that I was greenside in two on a par 5 – hit a nice driver + 3 wood combo – then took five more shots to get the ball in the #*!%# hole.

Ouch!

thats the hard way to go about it! Just work on a shot that you can play off hard pan. Remember that going at it with a sand wedge will almost always be suicide as the bounce will prevent you getting under the ball – you’re better playing a chip type shot with a pitching wedge.

Always remember that you can hole a putt from anywhere on a green but try to get too cute with the pitch and you might not even get on the green. Moral – out means out, don’t get too cute on lies you don’t practice or have a shot for.

if you got up and down 3 times, your scrambling is 50%. If you leave it in the bunker or thin it through the green its just a “not” for scrambling stats.

You’re better than you thought!
