Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Lessons + Playing every week = Handicap not coming down??? A few thoughts on the issue. I am basically in the same boat as you. While my overall swing has improved out of sight, I still hit enough bad shots that breaking 90 is next to impossible – mostly driving is costing me 10+ shots a round and when I am driving well something else has hit the crapper. Before some moron says use a 5 wood or something obvious, tried it… it doesn’t seem to help. Here is the catch 22, as I see it. The problem with lessons is that you get a whole bunch of stuff in your head. Basically, you gain knowledge but gain confusion at the same time. Once you have taken on board the skills the pro wants you to master, fix the main faults so to speak, you need to develop a really simple and basic idea of your swing – something really simple that expresses the idea in your head of what your good swing would be. Focusing on this issue or that issue while playing a round is not going to help. You need to focus on the positive: it might be something like, in my good swing my front arm travels around my spine or in my good swing the clubhead seems to follow a straight line through the ball. Focus on making something like that happen. I find its sometimes good to take a short break while the weather is crappy or your busy at work. It helps clear the head of all the confusion. A 1-2 week break can take 5 shots off your score. How would you rate your chipping and pitching? Nothing drops shots and improves your overall swing more than working on this area. |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Extensor Action Despite many efforts, every time I try and apply this facet of TGM everything goes to bung. I think for me applying extensor action as outlined in the articles pulls my spine offline. I am not terribly flexible and when trying to do it as suggested in the articles, I just sway back off the ball. When I try and not sway, too much weight stays on the front foot in the backswing. Or I get so focused on the EA I swing with no pivot. In the end, I just can not do it as outlined in the articles. Basically, applying EA ruins my pivot in one way or another. So is there another way to do EA? The whole pulling strings around and pretending my arm was a string did not work for me. |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Extensor Action Why is it whenever I try and incorporate Extensor Action into my swing everything goes to hell? Are there pitfalls to be wary of? Other ways to do it? Basically, whenever I concentrate on EA 3 or 4 other more important things fall apart. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Iron Upgrades
Unforunately, I live in the middle of Nowhere. Imagine the dullest place on earth and keep going a bit further towards nowhere. So unfortunately can not help you here. My HG experience was not very good either. I am sure someone here knows someone in Melb that does quality component clubs! |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Iron Upgrades My friend would 2nd the Srixon 506. He loves his. I admit it delivers a nice powerful ballflight. Some Taylormade LT’s might still be found. Bridgestone GC Mid. Can pick these up alot of places for less than $500 online. Of course, you could get yourself a set of nice clubs custom fit for you from a local person. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Henry-Griffitts Clubs?
I think the reason why TLT and HG would be a good fit is the HG goal is to get people playing as well as they can with the swing they got. TLT seems to be designed to get people as comfortable as they can get over the ball so they can be as consistent as possible. The two seem an ideal fit for each other. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Vision Golf Ball Test Been playing with the UV’s for a few weeks Boz and like the ball more and more each round. After finally playing on a course with greens that were not cement from the drought, found the spin was very good… outstanding for a ball that was in the price category of a Laddie. I was able to stop almost every mid and short iron within a metre of where it hit the green on full shots. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Henry-Griffitts Clubs? you can still add length to a club and then make the clubhead flatter which doesn’t change how the clubhead sits. You are totally incorrect with what is happening when the club is lengthened and your actual lies. There are exceptions to the standard rules. You shouldn’t comment on things you have not seen. I am not ignorant or stupid. I know what the standard fitting procedure is and what increasing length does or should do. A person can take a putter and hold it on the ground then imagine it an inch longer and see how it ‘should’ adjust to be more upright. But this does not work for me. I have no idea why. When being fitted recently I expected to be half an inch longer and a couple degrees upright. The pro, knowing my swing, even had a club set up a bit longer expecting it to be magic. Didn’t work. I do not like the way HG fits or atleast my experience with it. It was very negative. On a side note: I reckon if HG was on the ball they would jump all over TLT as it seems inline with their swing philosophy. |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Peter Lonards Swing Does he Horizontal Hinge or extreme Angle Hinge? He doesn’t seem to finish up where I might expect a hitter to. Looks to me like he is driving his hands down hitter style, then allowing his pivot to close his clubface… his right arm breaks down really early – maybe the only difference between his stroke and the book version of the hitters stroke. Its awesome to see someone with such a simple swing do so well and hit so far. I know I have gained atleast 3 clublengths since I took up hitting. And I am still gaining distance. (Gone from 80-90m PW to 115-125m pw!!!) |

TY for the tip. Will try it. Was kind of funny to be chasing a crow across 3 fairways in our buggy waving golf clubs at it to get one back. |

I know what you are saying – I can see the physics and math of it in my head – but all 1 inch longer does is make the problem worse. It doesn’t necessarily raise the heel up but the problem gets worse as the toe is more prone to dig in. I actually need clubs 1/2 an inch shorter and the whole thing flattens out. Incorrect where I am concerned. HG = Hopeless Golf… everyone on the forum knows it. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Henry-Griffitts Clubs?
My father has been a salesman for over 30 years, selling tens of millions of dollars of product every year. The concept is simple, if people trust you to give them a good deal, they come back again and again. Make yourself a big profit at their expense and all that repeat business is lost. Unfortunately, so many companies follow the other model of screwing who you can when you can, then they wonder why their business was so short lived. A good salesman is able to make money for his boss and make the customer happy. Take my mate, he had a small job done on his house and got way over charged. Now he would only give business to that person as a last resort. |

Lets put it this way. I don’t like the HG fitting system or at least the one used by most of their fitters. The 1 inch long club fitting I had raised the heel of my club about 1 inch off the ground so the chance of hitting a ball squarely is hopeless. Their fitting system is hopeless. |

I agree. You only buy from someone who pushes a sale on you once. You buy from someone who seems to be helping you get a good set of clubs at a good price again and again. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Stand bag for going on holidays and how many clubs to take I have an ogio flight and you can fit 14 clubs in it. Is only slightly larger than one of the half set travel bags. And works great. Very comfortable to carry. Bought it for the same reasons you have mentioned… with child 99% of car space seems to have disappeared. |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Peter Lonards Swing
Dart would you classify him as Hitting? I have always liked Lonard’s swing as well. He is pretty much the reason I have tried to learn the Hitting pattern from TGM. |
