Topic: Golf Talk / ISG Golf Competition

My stroke round converted to Stableford is as follows-
Front – Two 3 pointers
Five 2 pointers
One 1 point
one wipe = 17pts
Back – Two 3 pointers
Five 2 pointers
Two 1 pointers = 18pts
Total – 35pts

Doesn’t look that great but it’s the best round I’ve had for some time in tough conditions and I won the day so I’m happy. Plus I got 2 NTP’s and best 2nd shot for A Grade.

Haven’t been on ISG for ages and was almost too late to get a berth in this but I should get 1 at least for Sep/Oct …. and a long shot maybe even 2 :) ..... 18 after work seeing that daylight savings starts here today ..... just realised the time!! It’s taken ages to read 22 pages of posts :)

Nominate my first round as this Tues 28/10 Stroke but I’ll convert it to Stableford.

Topic: Golf Talk / How did you all play this weekend?

Played in the South West Ladies District Singles Championship over the weekend at the Manjimup Golf Club (it’s our first year in that association) and we were treated to lightning fast greens after they had held the PGA Pro Am there the week before (great fun when your home course is sand greens!!!) It is a Par 74 course for the ladies and I had 95/78 on day one with the Club House leader for the Gross on 87 and the Nett leader 75 and then I had a day out on Sunday and ended up with 86/69 which was the equal best gross score for the weekend and also the lowest nett score by 2 strokes. I won the Silver Division (0-20 hcps) 36 Hole Nett Event in the Championship. I was pretty proud of my efforts, plus I ended up being 5th in the Gross! Did major damage to my handicap- lost 2.1 with the CCR being out to the max (76) both days and was on my lowest exact EVER 14.6 until I played my home course today and got another 0.1!!!

Woeful Day today. Stoke MM and counted putts … would rather NOT have known …. nothing would drop 36 putts …. last medal round I had 25 and won the day. Today I had 98 off the stick for an 81 nett. On reflection maybe staying at home with my chest/head cold would have been a better option than playing in a hurricane BUT I HATE missing golf. Oh well there’s always next time :)

Stableford today … Mixed comp and started with 18pts on the front nine and came home in better shape with 21pts but only good enough to get me 4th in a countback. Great day to be on the golf course weather today south of Perth was stunning!!

Had our Open Day today. 82 in the field playing 4BBB Stableford. We won the gross with 32pts (Nett 46) Unfortunately as a partnership we parred the same holes and bogeyed the same holes but we were still 4pts better than the next best rolleyes.gif I also managed to get the 0-23 Longest Drive smile.gif One of my better drives on the day ... there were some pretty average ones!!

Another PB on my home course today at Mixed Scroungers- this time on the front nine! biggrin.gif 37 off the stick for 25pts wink.gif but then had some mega brain fades out the back which resulted in 2 wipes, with some other gawd awful shots thrown in just to remind me why my handicap is 17 sad.gif 41pts was good enough for me to lose 0.6 from my h/c but not good enough to win anything in the mixed field... lost out on 4th, 5th and 6th in c/b's rolleyes.gif Still gotta be happy with the fact that in 9 days I've had 37 off the stick on both nines (Par 36) on our course ... what a pity I couldn't do it on the same day smile.gif

Haven't posted for a while, so I'll do the last week of golf smile.gif
Today Stableford 35pts ... 1 wipe (mega brain fade!) and poor putting.
Last Sat -35pts
Last Thu - Pinjarra's Open Day (188 in the field) Canadian 4's and we were runner up in the Gross (24pts) on a countback biggrin.gif ... and we didn't play particularly well unsure.gif .
Last Tuesday - Played my best ever back nine on my home course- a one over 37 with birdies on both the Par 5's wink.gif . Pity I had played the front nine in 12 over sad.gif but it still gave me a Nett 68 and a win on the day tongue.gif .

Have been lucky enough to play on some great courses over the last few days... Royal Perth (Fri) in their 36 hole Silver Salver Stroke event and Mt Lawley Golf Club (Mon) in the 36 Hole State Country Foursomes. I always take a while to adjust to the green speeds (I play on sand greens) and they were super slick at RPGC (having just hosted the Junior Boys National Titles) and pretty quick at Mt Lawley too. Both courses were in outstanding condition and on the whole I was pretty happy with the way I played biggrin.gif Particularly my driving wink.gif My partner and I had the best pm Nett Round in the State Country Foursomes and were only one stroke off getting runner up for the event. We played 29 holes well and 7 holes

REALLY

poorly sad.gif Back at my home track today I couldn't get a putt to the hole!!!

Topic: Golf Talk / What age were you when u started and how well are you playing now?

Started age 42 (at the end of the golf season) on a 36 handicap and got to 25 at the end of my first full season a year later.Got to my all time lowest handicap this year (31/1) of 15.2 but a couple of months of not swinging it well has seen me (as of yesterday's 36 holes at Royal Perth Golf Club) get to 17 h/c again (16.6). The aim is 13 at the end of the year and I'm still working on it tongue.gif I wish I had started this sport at a younger age but back then I was into "run around, fast team sports."

34pts with 2 wipes yesterday and the shots were either really good or really bad sad.gif eg 6 inches from a hole in one and then after my best drive of the day 2 consecutive balls OOB ... exactly the same shot x2. I've been missing my practice hit!!! Someone nicked my 50 odd balls that I hit into the forest (and collect) each afternoon!!

Played in the South West Games today at the Bunbury Golf Club. Ended up with 90/74 and was fairly happy with that rolleyes.gif but had a few brain fades along the way sad.gif

Triple bogey and too many d.bogeys destroyed what had the potential to be a very good card. Started with a par and ended with 3 pars in a row and seven in total for the round laugh.gif Gotta be happy with that on a 16hcp !! Equal 9th in a field of 46 and I think I was the only sand green player in the field biggrin.gif So I suppose that's not too bad!!

The course (apart from a couple of patchy greens) was in great nick and the putts rolled beautifully! They didn't always drop but they rolled beautifully!! wink.gif

Played in Women Golf WA's Opening Event the past 2 days at Kwinana ... played OK for the first 15 holes in the Canadian Foursomes on the Mon rolleyes.gif but fell in a bit of a hole the last few, although we did manage 3rd place with 39pts. Today it was Individual Stableford and started OK with 18pts on the first 9 smile.gif and then had a miserable 14pts coming in with a wipe in that sad.gif . It wasn't all that bad though ... equal 17th in a field of 72 wink.gif

Played in a 2 day tournament last weekend at Busselton (Stephen Leaney's home town!) The warmup Ambrose event on the Fri for the team I was in was a shocker ... I think we ended up 6 over par ... couldn't sink a putt between the four of us!! ohmy.gif

Sat I started with a d.bogey and then promptly eagled the next hole (Par 4 2nd shot from about 150m out biggrin.gif ) Continued the front nine well with 43 off the stick (mind you mostly it was par then db bogey) ... but it was one below my handicap of 16 and then had some mega brainfades on the back 9 for 52 off the stick with 3 triple bogeys and 2 db.bogeys in that. Talk about the tale of 2 halves!! So 95 for a nett 79 on a Par 73 course!!

Sun was virtually groundhog day ... but without the eagle sad.gif instead the 44 on the front was made up of Par on the 1st and then 8 bogeys ... which was playing to my handicap but too many missed putts!! And I kept the triple bogeys off the card out the back but without a par out there and a couple of penalties I racked up lots of db. bogeys for 51.

So both days ended up 95/79!! Oh well there's always next round smile.gif After playing extremely quick grass greens on the weekend, back at my home club (sand greens) yesterday I couldn't get the ball anywhere near the pin with my chips or putts ... left them miles short blink.gif You've gotta love this game cool.gif

Congratulations Jack smile.gif

Played Stableford yesterday and had a very up and down round. Every now and then it was very, very good but more often than not it was awful sad.gif 31pts (16 & 15) Seem to be scrambling a lot lately!

Topic: Golf Talk / My Nanna has stopped playing Golf.

Virge I hope I can still be playing golf when I get to your Nana's age ... it's certainly my aim and my absolute dream to get to an 11 handicap. ohmy.gif

I live by this little quote ..

You don't stop playing because you get old ... You get old because you stop playing. wink.gif

And I'm sure she's living proof of that philosophy! At the tournament I played in last weekend Lindsay Stephens (former? WA Professional golfer) mother Dot was playing aged 80 and off a 21 handicap and I thought that was impressive ohmy.gif So your Nana's feats in my book are JUST awesome ... you are lucky to have had her guidance!!

Played away last weekend at the Capel Summer Cup ... warm up 9 Hole Par Event on the Friday ... very ordinary -3. sad.gif Weekend Stableford ... had trouble getting the speed of the greens on Sat and had 7 one pointers on my card for 32pts and then Sun I started with a wipe and then proceeded to pull everything left half way thru the round, after finding bunkers on probably six of the first 9 holes for a very scrambly 31pts. I suppose I should be pleased that I scored so well considering my game was not at it's best ... took the money from my club mates on both days tongue.gif So I suppose it wasn't all bad wink.gif

Topic: Golf Talk / Any self taught golfers here ?

Another basically self taught golfer ...
started July 2001 -
Obtained an official 36hcp Nov 2001
End of 2002 26hcp
End of 2003 17hcp
End of 2004 19hcp
End of 2005 19hcp Had my first lesson (with Paul - iseekguru!!! In Dec) because I felt my natural ability had got me as far as it could.
Bought new sticks Feb 2006 (fitted) and had a lesson 6wks after getting them from the guy who sold me the sticks.
End of 2006 16hcp
Today 15.1 - still heading in the right direction albeit slowly smile.gif
If I lived closer to guru and could afford it I'd have more lessons. I enjoy my golf and want to be the best I can be!
