Topic: The Lounge / Can of Worms. ..... Quality of Life

My heart breaks for those that have to make this decision.

I had a close friend who worked as a chaplain at Peter Mac for a long time. I once asked her her view on euthanasia and she was adamantly against it – for the reason that she was witness to many many times when there was something significant happened in those dark times – either the healing of a relationship, or the chance for someone to say good bye or reconcile with some past issue. She just said that if the process was foreshortened she regretted the opportunities lost for those sort of significant moments of healing or whatever.

I am not sure whether I agree with her, but I found it an interesting perspective that still echoes in my mind whenever I think about this issue.

Second point – if you would permit me to be a boring lawyer – as well as talking about this, make sure that you take the time to get medical powers of attorney for your loved ones particularly those that might one day lose capacity. Often if you are next of kin it won’t be necessary, but it can be very very useful to have one at times when urgent medical decisions or final life decisions have to be made.

The main reason for posting initially was to get all here to think about the issue and have the discussion before you are faced with the decision. ......

Because what one wants might not be in the best interests of all

As luck would have it I listened to a story on ABC radio yesterday that covered the situation of final medication wishes. ...

Be aware that each state has different legislation and some have none. ...

For what it’s worth I think you are taking a very brave decision. ..

To be honest I wasn’t going to post this at this stage, but thought it is was to important in today’s society and as raw and as hard as it is I felt the need to put this subject out there…....

I have a lot of questions that need answers when the time is right and that will be the another can of worms subject…....

In the meantime sleep, well try to anyways

Thanks all, neatly summed up Hack….

Situation is as result of certain events, which until I know the full story behind I wont comment on, my old man is in a comatosed state from which after blood test we have been advised the chances of any meaningful recovery are nil.

We could send him to hospital to be placed on a drip to lower an abnormally high salt count found after a blood test or we could let nature take its course…...

As a family we taken the view that somebody who was always as active as the old man, walking, golfing, mentally alert etc he would be mortified to see what he was like now and we have made the hardest decision of all…

That is to let nature take its course and by flock its hard to go and sit by his bedside knowing that its only a matter of time, the hardest decision any son has to make…......

I know that when the time comes I will ensure that his long putter and a ball or two will go with him, in the meantime sitting, watching and waiting is incredibly hard and you wonder have we made the right call…...

How does know when its time to say that’s enough, that your parent/partner or whomever has had a good life and that further medical action might keep them alive but give them what quality of life?

When or how do you decide to cease medical intervention and let nature take its course?

This is a deeply personal question at present and I will try and post the reasons behind same and the decision my family has made. But in the meantime I thought I would post and see if others here have been through the same issue. .......

Zen

When i type in ISeekgolf that is where I expect to go…....... Might take a while for the page to open but when it finally does it says ISeekGolf…

Now if I wanted to to find Zenolink that is what I would type in…...

Not rocket science really but I think even you would be able to grasp the difference between ISeekGolf and Zenolink….. not hard, even I as a hacker can work it out.

I posted elsewhere that every time someone mentions swing, balance, grip or effing whatever along comes Zen with another lecture from the manuals of zenolink and I am right and you are wrong attitude.

Quite sure I also mentioned posting in a constructive way that is for the best of the forum and those in this area who are seeking to learn. Not purely pushing your own effing barrow.

There are other professional people on this place who post happily and constructively about other peoples theories, products or whatever. You however just can’t seem to grasp what is needed and I feel sorry for you, I truly do.
