Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Bio Moved to Melbounre looking for playing partners

I can get 3 people on here at Sanctuary Lakes, or Eynesbury is well worth a look if there are more people interested.

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / AB Driver Swing!

Yes I live and play at Sanctuary Lakes. There is a range there but it isn’t the best and it is only just over 300m long at it’s furthest point, so it may not be long enough for you ;*). Anyone going between the 10th and 11th at the back of the range may object to being bombarded. Let me know if you ever fancy a game. I will probably get down to SISTEMS next week so I will keep an eye out for you.

Mate that is some big hitting. Last time I was there I think I was getting my best drives to run over the mound! I am down at Sanctuary Lakes and the mats are getting pretty ratty so I was thinking about getting back to SISTEMS. What sort of time do you go down there ?
I am not a long driver, just a golfer trying to get a bit more distance, so if you can put up with a baldy Pom with an interest in TGM asking you daft questions, then I will definately come up and say hello.

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / AB Driver Swing!

AB is that the range in Werribee? If so, they must get pretty p*ssed off having to make a special trip over the back just to get the balls you’ve hit. Actually wherever it was taken, it looks pretty impressive at the moment, and you certainly have people more qualified than me to help get you to where you want to be.

Topic: Golf Talk / How long can you drive

370m!!! Are you sure? How did you score on the hole?

Work is for people who don’t know how to play GOLF.

http://www.golflink.com.au/...

Sanctuary Lakes does get very windy!!!! I took it the drive was about 300m???....370m to the green, but up a few metres from the back markers and finsihed 62m short…makes it about 300m?

I’ve been finding lately my drives with the wind can reach 270m+ while the next hole back into the wind a perfect drive for me won’t reach 200m!!! The average is about 225m. For ISG purposes only the ones with the wind count :P

Windyhill, you are spot on. The drive was around 300m What i was saying that the length of the hole is 370m and the ball landed with 62m left to the whole.
ended up paring the whole becuase i duffed my pitch to the green.
My average though is around 240 – 260m.

That’s 62m to the front of the green, so take off 30m for the depth of the green. Still not a bad drive though.

Topic: Golf Talk / Bubba Watson A Little Mad At Elkington Today

Saw a clip where Elk just walked off the 18th without shaking anyone’s hand in the group. It also shows a relatively heated debate in the scorer’s hut afterwards. If Bubba was right when he said that Elk had been walking while he was playing the whole of the previous day, then Elk is in the wrong here. As far as I am concerned, Elk has come out of this looking like a bit of a tool.

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Trigger finger pressure for a swinger

A nice drill for feeling pressure, courtesy of Brian Manzella. Take your normal grip and then (for right handers) take your right thumb off the grip. Start with short pitch shots and work your way up to full swings, feeling the pressure load against your trigger finger and staying there all the way through the shot. It is a great feeling when it comes together, and for me felt very different from how I was used to playing (ie with no “mash” to the shot).

Topic: Golf Talk / Whats the best prize you've won ?

Prizes won include

7 nights in a resort in Barbados

Titleist 983K driver, Titleist carry bag and signed hat won on Paul Casey’s website. Went to Wentworth on the Wednesday of the Volvo PGA to meet him to collect the prizes and spent time with him on the practice range. Got to wander up and down the range watching the likes of Vijay, Darren Clarke, Jimenez etc.

Golf wise, I won the C grade matchplay last year for an $80 dollar voucher.

The best one was 7 nights in Sydney, all expenses paid. Included was a Harbour Bridge climb, flight over the harbour in a helicopter, trip to the Blue Mountains and a ride around the city on the back of a Harley. As a result of that trip, we emigrated from the UK to Australia 3 years ago.

Topic: Golf Talk / GOLF GPS

I tried the Sureshot unit yesterday and thought it was pretty good. Gave me all the necessary info I needed regarding distance to the hazards, and more importantly the distance to carry them. As for slowing play, I don’t get it. Which is quicker a) wheeling my trolley up next to the ball, glancing at the distance on the Sureshot if needed and then playing the shot or b) wheeling my trolley up next to my ball, looking for a marker/sprinkler head, walking off the distance, and then playing my shot. There is no way that using the Sureshot slowed me down.
I am not sure that they are worth the asking price, but I will definately get one when the price comes down a bit.

Topic: Golf Talk / shots into the wind

How about the bane of my life, driver into a strong wind ? Do you move it back, tee it down, hit it easy, smash it hard ? I have half an idea what to do with irons, but getting something that will still go a decent distance into the wind off the tee escapes me.

QUOTE: Danos @ Apr 25 2007, 01:50 PM

I have hit balls from the Truestrike mats before. They are quite soft, much softer than your standard hex range mat. Truestrike has some gel product under it to soften the impact. A retailer in Melb had one on trial for about three months then got rid of it. Obviously thought it was no good.

As the Australian distributor for the TrueStrike product, I can say that isn't the case at all regarding the retailer.

If anyone wants more info on the mats feel free to PM me. I will say that whatever mat you use, be carefull putting it on top of concrete without some decent cushioning. I know from painful experience that you can really damage yourself and your clubs.

QUOTE: Peter @ Apr 26 2007, 01:42 AM

racinfarmer,

How many homeowners end up getting shot with their own gun/s? How many kids / teenagers die every year from accidents involving firearms owned (legally) by their parents? If guns were harder to obtain, how many teenagers would take the step from troubled teen to mass murderer? Does widespread gun ownership make you more or less safe? How many homeowners use legally-purchased firearms to protect their family and property from criminals using illegally-obtained weapons?

This is not meant as criticism, they are genuine questions that I don't know the answers to. My personal view is that gun ownership is not, of itself, a problem. I believe that it should be difficult to purchase a firearm, and a person should be limited in the types of weapons they are allowed to keep in their home. But I don't live in the US, and so I will admit that I struggle to understand the reluctance of your citizens to entertain thoughts of enhanced gun control.

See here for some numbers http://www.neahin.org/progr... regarding child deaths. These numbers seem to be completely ignored by those who are pro guns. As far as I am concerned, the arguement that "I need a gun to defend my family" is a nonsense, when families are being harmed by having guns so readily available. When I read "American children are more at risk from firearms than the children of any other industrialized nation." I simply cannot fathom the "cold dead hands" mentality of the NRA and it's supporters.
