Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / When to use hybrid v iron

Easy for me, if I want the ball to land softly I would use the 5 iron, if I want the ball to run on, I would use the hybird.

Lie also plays a part, as I prefer to use the hybrid from a dodgy lie.

Firey

Once the rough and trees (When planted) develop, I think this course will be the better course, especially on the eye. No doubt it is the easier of the two now, but in reality the courses are different.

North course – Wide fairways and huge flattish greens
Champs course – Tighter fairways and small contoured greens

By the way, you didn’t score too well last weekend when you played the Champs course (Windy conditions but not really tough), I would hate to see how you would have gone on the ‘tougher’ North course. :-)

If you are in the shit more often, don’t be using a ProV, seems like a waste of moulah.

Topic: Sports Talk / Twenty 20 Cricket Championship

Who really cares in the end.

20/20 is just a slogathon, no place for bowlers or real batsmen. You may as well place a bowling machine at one end and just slog as far as you can.

What’s next 10/10???? Or make it tippity instead….

At least in the 50 over game there is skill and you can work on methods, in this version of the ‘game’ the only method is to belt from the very first ball.

I’m sure this game will appeal to the masses, but not to many ‘cricketers’, then again, cricket is all money now.

Al,

The only way they could add another 9 holes was to make it a pitch and putt course, wait a minute, it already is this…

$5 a throw, but come 2008, all comp fees will be included within our subs.

That includes NTPs and Eagles Nests.

Currently we pay for range balls and carts. Pull buggies are free.

And we get a 10% discount on purchases, food, drink, lessons, etc.

Topic: Golf Talk / Ipswich Golf Club Membership Advice

Phil,

I’ve played the course a few times and I find it very average.

AND I know of quite a few golfers whom have left Ipswich recently as the conditioning has worsened due to lack of water.

But best to go there and check it out for yourself.

Regards

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Course Recommendations

QUOTE: Dandit @ May 7 2007, 09:11 AM

Hi Guys, first post here rolleyes.gif

Just relocated back from the UK... when I left Aus in 2002 I was playing off 9 @ Southern Golf Club, but that was before they changed the holes around and the new clubhouse was not even open.

I let my membership go there, as I was not planning on coming home as soon as I have... so now I am in the position of looking for a new course membership to go with my new clubs cool.gif

I have narrowed it down to the following... could you give me your opinion as to where you would join?

Southern -30 mins drive, $3K joining fee, $2.5K subs (from memory), my old stomping ground
Peninsula -30 mins drive, $3K joining fee, $1.4K subs for first 4 years (until I turn 40)
Long Island -30 mins drive, $1K joining fee, $2.1K subs
Waverley -5 mins drive, $0 joining fee, 1.7K subs
Cranbourne -25 mins drive, $0 joining fee, $2.5k subs

Waverley is in there as it is no more than 5 minutes from me (I live in Lysterfield). I plan on playing at least once per fortnight, hopefully once per week (I have a young family). In a couple of years I hope to increase that to twice per week.

Looking forward to your opinions

Clearly Peninsula by a long way. But if that's not possible, and you only plan to play once per fortnight and you have a young family, choose Waverley. With 0 joining fee, and 1.7k subs, costs will not be enormously high. Huge plus also as it is only 5 mins away from home.

But if money is not a problem, how about Sandhurst. 36 holes, perfect conditions all year through (Everything is green here), and everything is new.

For all those who rated the Poms a chance before the tournament started, the hard facts reveal a pathetic effort from our shower dodging friends. They have managed to beat only minnow teams and lost to everyone else.

Maybe they should have to prequalify next time with the likes of Holland, Khazakstan and Botswana...

And you can add India and Pakistan to that prequalifying list as well wink.gif

Have heard the official line will be 'no match-up' for Gas.

I think he's been pretty servicable thus far, just his disposal is so ordinary.
Heres hoping they give the two new boys a solid stint on the park chasing the pill.

Yep have to agree with you Smooth, Gas has been servicable (Actually he looks like he is back to his defensive best), but these days you have to dispose of the ball perfectly.
No point getting the ball, disposing of it in a hap hazard way, and then seeing it go over your head a few seconds later.

We just need one win to kickstart our season, when that comes is becoming harder and harder to predict though.

QUOTE: mrdenn1s @ Apr 13 2007, 12:24 PM

Wiping the putter is a great idea...never realised a grain of sand could do so much damage

What about chipping...ignore the break, aim straight and hit hard??? There will still be plenty of sand around i think. Also, the holes are larger style

Sand can kill the motion of a ball, once saw a guy attempt to tap in a two inch putt, but as he had heaps of sand on his putter, the ball didn't even make the cup. Quite funny actually to see his face after the attempt.

In regards to chipping, I would like you said, ignore the break and hit the ball at touch harder.

Enjoy.

QUOTE: mrdenn1s @ Apr 13 2007, 11:10 AM

Guys,

We have our Monthly Medal on Saturday, but all the greens were sanded on Tuesday...they are pretty rough and very soft

Any advice on how to put and chip on these things?

Thanks

Mr D

I take it you meant cored greens? tongue.gif

Seriously, it all depends on the type of coring which has taken place. Sometimes the holes can be quite large (1 cm or more), and the ball just bounces and deflects every which way, other times clubs can use the syringe type coring (a couple of mms in diameter) where the ball still has a true roll, even though slow. I know which one I prefer!

My club recently cored and sanded the greens, luckily the holes were very small, therefore putting wasn't a huge problem, even a week later. You just have to hit them a touch harder, and like a few have said, clean your putter head and ball after every stroke, the last thing you want to do is get sand caught between ball and putter.

Otherwise, take it on the chin that a few balls will go off target, and you could end up with a few 3 putts.

QUOTE: beancounter @ Apr 11 2007, 02:15 PM

"Metropolitan Fire Brigade spokesman Trevor Woodward said the plane suffered engine failure and landed on the 12th fairway of the Capital Golf Course in Moorabbin about 12.20pm (AEST). "

That is going to extreme lengths to get onto Capital.

Is it true that the pilot was heard to scream "and that was for Pearl Harbour" as the only group on the course was sent running for the clubhouse.

I wonder if the plane damaged any of the playing surface? I hope the pilot has insurance.

Either way, at least the ground staff will have something to do instead of manicuring the gardens, and the occasional divot.

Apparently Lloyd Williams was seen on the 18th Fairway at the Capital with a sign saying "Piss off...do not do an emergency landing on MY course"...forcing the plane to land at Moorabbin public course.

I thought the plane did land at Capital not Moorabbin. huh.gif
