Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / When to use hybrid v iron Easy for me, if I want the ball to land softly I would use the 5 iron, if I want the ball to run on, I would use the hybird. Lie also plays a part, as I prefer to use the hybrid from a dodgy lie. |

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / New Sandhurst Champions Course Firey Once the rough and trees (When planted) develop, I think this course will be the better course, especially on the eye. No doubt it is the easier of the two now, but in reality the courses are different. North course – Wide fairways and huge flattish greens By the way, you didn’t score too well last weekend when you played the Champs course (Windy conditions but not really tough), I would hate to see how you would have gone on the ‘tougher’ North course. :-) |

Topic: Sports Talk / Twenty 20 Cricket Championship Who really cares in the end. 20/20 is just a slogathon, no place for bowlers or real batsmen. You may as well place a bowling machine at one end and just slog as far as you can. What’s next 10/10???? Or make it tippity instead…. At least in the 50 over game there is skill and you can work on methods, in this version of the ‘game’ the only method is to belt from the very first ball. I’m sure this game will appeal to the masses, but not to many ‘cricketers’, then again, cricket is all money now. |

Topic: Golf Talk / comp fees? $5 a throw, but come 2009, all comp fees will be included within our subs. That includes NTPs and Eagles Nests. Currently we pay for range balls and carts. Pull buggies are free. And we get a 10% discount on purchases, food, drink, lessons, etc. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Ipswich Golf Club Membership Advice Phil, I’ve played the course a few times and I find it very average. AND I know of quite a few golfers whom have left Ipswich recently as the conditioning has worsened due to lack of water. But best to go there and check it out for yourself. Regards |

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Course Recommendations
Clearly Peninsula by a long way. But if that's not possible, and you only plan to play once per fortnight and you have a young family, choose Waverley. With 0 joining fee, and 1.7k subs, costs will not be enormously high. Huge plus also as it is only 5 mins away from home.
But if money is not a problem, how about Sandhurst. 36 holes,
perfect conditions all year through (Everything is green here),
and everything is new. |

Yep have to agree with you Smooth, Gas has been servicable
(Actually he looks like he is back to his defensive best), but
these days you have to dispose of the ball perfectly. We just need one win to kickstart our season, when that comes is becoming harder and harder to predict though. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Playing on Corded Greens
Sand can kill the motion of a ball, once saw a guy attempt to tap in a two inch putt, but as he had heaps of sand on his putter, the ball didn't even make the cup. Quite funny actually to see his face after the attempt. In regards to chipping, I would like you said, ignore the break and hit the ball at touch harder. Enjoy. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Playing on Corded Greens
I take it you meant cored greens? Seriously, it all depends on the type of coring which has taken place. Sometimes the holes can be quite large (1 cm or more), and the ball just bounces and deflects every which way, other times clubs can use the syringe type coring (a couple of mms in diameter) where the ball still has a true roll, even though slow. I know which one I prefer! My club recently cored and sanded the greens, luckily the holes were very small, therefore putting wasn't a huge problem, even a week later. You just have to hit them a touch harder, and like a few have said, clean your putter head and ball after every stroke, the last thing you want to do is get sand caught between ball and putter. Otherwise, take it on the chin that a few balls will go off target, and you could end up with a few 3 putts. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Plane makes emergency landing
I wonder if the plane damaged any of the playing surface? I hope the pilot has insurance. Either way, at least the ground staff will have something to do instead of manicuring the gardens, and the occasional divot. |

I thought the plane did land at Capital not Moorabbin. |
