Topic: Golf Equipment / Classic/Retro/Vintage Clubs A mate of mine has my 1980s Status hand forged blades. I used to hit a 2 iron blade when I was 15! Now I don’t even carry a cavity back 3 iron! Are the Status clubs of historic interest in the history of Aussie clubs? |

Topic: Golf Talk / 3 wood swing Annika Sorrenstam wrote an instruction article this year which has helped to improve my 3 woods off the deck immeasurably. She says she tries to picture a U shaped swing with the club coming into the target area quite shallow and then staying shallow down the target line after impact. In truth you can hit down on the fairway woods we’ve got a bit these days, in the old days when I started playing in the 80’s you really had to clip the old 4 wood, it was pretty much the hardest shot in the bag. Try the U image and don’t swing too fast. Good contact is the key (bat on ball!) |

Topic: Golf Talk / Judging Distance .....apparently developers have bought the site and are moving the golf course to the other side of the M5… not sure where that is or when, idle gossip. So when you say “why would you bother” what do you mean? By the way…. Go You Bears! |

Topic: Golf Talk / long par 3's.... that’s been a strategy I’ve tried and it has worked well at times. Then a month or so ago I seemed to “lose” that shot and have started squirting it right. I’ve got too much upper body movement, leaning into the shot too hard to try and hit down on it and getting too active in the upper body, leaving the clubface open at impact Might work more on this approach as I think it is the key. My trick is a sense of stillness in the upper body until the clubface is past impact…. also resisting the urge to shape one in to the flag! |

Topic: Golf Talk / long par 3's.... ...are my nemesis, especially at my home course. I could bail out of course but where’s the fun in that? I can hit long irons off the fairway ok, so why do I ‘tighten up’ off the tee and hit a duck hook or a weak push so often? What about you – do you struggle with the long ones and what do you do? |

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / How to hit a Hybrid Don’t swing too fast wherever you set up with it. The trick is to swing really smooth (almost consciously slow) and just try and middle the thing. I also think a shallower swing, not a fairwary wood ‘clip’ but just not too much like a seven iron works. Also stay away from offset. This (for me at least leads to a nasty snap hook). For the record I set it up pretty far back and play for low draw. |

Topic: Sports Talk / Many say ALi is the greatest I’ve always been a big Ali fan but read something recently that sort of blamed him for the way US sports has become so ME ME ME flashy big headed and not humble, which is interesting and if so sort of takes a bit away from his legacy. But what a man an amazing sense of principle and looved belting people! |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Pro v1 x Hey anyone recommend a ball with similar performance to a Titleist Pro v1x? I have a driver speed 100+ but tend to get a bit wild off the tee. Need to minimise side spin with the driver at a cheaper price? Ta USA! USA! USA! Boo Boo…. Ugh! |

Topic: Golf Talk / Ryder Cup on free to air Hey guys I’ve got one of those HD recievers for the computer (BlazDTV) and am not getting ten HD very well. There’s a stage in the set up where you scan for channels (depending what room you’re in) at this stage there’s two options – you can just scan the default bandwidth or select a specific bandwidth khz with frequency range and bandwidth. My question is – will it make a difference if I go for a specific band and frequency – if so what should I select? Any geeks out there? Cheers |

Topic: Golf Talk / specating a Hole In One Played a couple of years ago an early Saturday round and this bloke was having a bit of a shocker, pretty cranky and keeping to himself. We get to the 11th and he knocks a 6 iron straight at the pin – the phrase it was in all the way comes to mind here – we all went ballistic high 5’s and he is sortof going along with it. After a few more holes he’s back to being Mr Cranky. I’m like shit dude lighten up! That’s the only one I’ve ever seen and I’ve only come close once in a practice round 1inch I reckon. I’ve been playing 25 years! |

Topic: Golf Talk / Playing well under pressure and regaining confidence. If the main problem is driver my suggestion would be to start playing a draw; you have to loosen up your left hand grip to play a draw which is probably not happening if you’re seizing up. Also to play a draw with driver I find I need to really try and get my right shoulder through the ball. Both these things instill confidence in my tee game. Having said that I’m working on a fade now because the draw is hard to control but it might be a good interim step for you. Don’t be timid off the tee really release it to get that draw and your natural ability will return. That’s my 2c worth |
