1 i’d Jack,

Doohan’s Honda was miles above everything else out there for at least 3 of the 5 yrs, so should we discount the 5 he won down to 2?

Virge,

Nice to know you just paid about double the going rate to get an Intel box running FreeBSD. Ah but it has a magnetic power lead he says….. :-)

Oh and Admin, either the “who’s online” is randomly selecting one in 5 people connected or a shit load of forum users have given ISG away post “upgrade”.

To make it really authentic do you dive forward onto the grass as you are walking up to take your stance??

Congratulations Tithers. That makes it one down and one to go. You’ll find that golf suddenly gets a little harder to squeeze in with a rug rat around. Now I’m just waiting for Kite Boy to join the Fatherly Brigade of Part-tme Golfers.

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / 13th Beach

Michswiss,

If you go back and look at the 13th Beach – Beach Course threads you’ll find almost unanimous support for it. There are a couple of funky things where he has tried things that haven’t quite worked but all in all its a terrific course. The negative comments on Cashy’s work are almost exclusively to do with projects that have involved changes made to existing courses such as Kingswood, Commonwealth and Royal Melbourne.

I’ll agree with King Jeffrey. 1 is a really clever hole and a great starter. 2 is very good on a lesser piece of land. 3 – nice try but a miss. 4 – hmm I just don’t like roadblocks regardless of distance. 5 – Nope – sorry. 6 Road block, but from 7 it starts to get better.

Topic: Sports Talk / Didak suspension

They need to get some people who aren’t from a football background on the MRP and tribunal. Too many conflicts of interest at present. It should all be impartial. Did anyone hear Campbell Brown on SEN yesterday talking about how he had tried really hard to get Judd off? What a joke. Judd should have got at least 2 or 3 weeks for the eye gouge. As for Didak – I hope he appeals and gets 6 weeks from the tribunal. 1 week for the shove and 5 for being a tool.

Topic: Golf Talk / Old golfers never die

they just go off and play on the Senior Tour in Europe. Seems Mike Clayton has decided to have a bit of fun with the walking frame lads in Europe and is playing 3 events. Last weekend he came a credible 24th on debut in the Irish Seniors Open and he is down to play the Jersey Seniors Open this weekend and the Wales Seniors Open the weekend after. I wonder if Henry will be on the bag?

Moe,

Please don’t mention 1995 – it still hurts. I think another 50 years of Carlton finishing in the bottom 4 would see me forgive them for the out and out cheating that cost us a flag.

MoeV2,

Go back and look at all the season previews. The common thread was that Geelong lacked “genuine superstars”. Chapman was closest but Ablett didn’t run enough on the ball (now does) and Bartel apart from being the best wet weather player going round was solid rather than spectacular. He has improved this year. Look at the 6 games Playfair played before he broke his jaw – he was playing very good football but has never been the same player since.

I never said the likes of Milburn etc weren’t very good footballers, they have just never been in the superstar category.

Topic: The Lounge / windows mobile 5 question

Just had the answer arrive. When you hit forward look at the top of the email you are forwarding and there is a “edit message” link. Click on that and it appends the previous message to the new one rather than attaching it. Formal response and reasoning below;

1. When replying to a message from your device, and if you tap on “edit message”, it sends it as unicode. 2. When replying to a message from your device, it adds the email to the end of the email as per normal, in rich text 3. When forwarding a message from your device, and if you tap on “edit message”, it sends it as unicode. The mail is added at the end of the email. 4. When forwarding a message from your device, without tapit adds the email as an attachment. It also sends whatever you type in as unicode text. We believe that this is a feature rather than a bug. Since you are forwarding it on to a recipient who potentially can only read unicode mail, they would still be able to read your message that you typed in when forwarding it, as well as being able to read the attachment once they get to a PC.

Moe,

Go back and read all the press from last year and the preseason and first 4 weeks of this year. The prevailing wisdom for almost all the journos was that the Cats lacked the superstars required to win big games. No Judd, Macleod etc. From memory there was no Geelong member of last years AA side. The last 4 weeks has changed a few opinions and suddenly Geelong have gone from being a rabble that needed to sack their coach (remember Bomba was favourite to be the first chopped 5 weeks ago) to the great white hope for Victoria.

Why would Ablett, Bartel or Chapman be “Superstars” today and not 6 weeks ago? I would have thought that being a Superstar wasn’t a week to week proposition.

Carl,

I thought Moe was your “little friend”? 04 they couldn’t close the deal against Brisbane, not good enough. 05 – Davis plucked a couple but both King and Ablett went down late which didn’t help. Had they beaten the Swans they would have been creamed the following week. Again – not good enough. If I could be bothered I’d pull the injuries from the middle of last year – they had a lot of guys go down but no “stars” mainly because they don’t have any. But you lose 8 odd guys and you suffer. As I said – there is a reason they over hauled the fitness and medical depts.

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / 420 - 440m

I’ve always wondered if you could build a hole with the green set obliquely to the fairway so that the further you drove the ball the harder the approach would be. In other words the green sets up with a nice wide opening for a shot from say 150m but the further you drive it (and make it look really open and attractive from the tee) the worse the angle becomes so that from say 75m you are playing over bunkers to a green sloping away. All this would mean that the fairway actually would run at an angle to the green, never really at it and Wilksie’s “gap with crap” would be required between the driving zone and the area around the green. My guess is that a lot of the big bombers would just smash it off the tee every time and bitch about how impossible the approach was rather than working oout that you needed to position the tee shot.

MoeV2,

Obviously V2 isn’t any brighter than V1. King missed about half the season with various injuries when they didn’t have a Blake to back him up, meaning Mooney in the ruck. Enright half the season. Kelly only played the first 5. Playfair who had started to hold down CHF half the season. Add in the soft tissue injuries to about half the team, Ablett missed, Chapman ditto, Harley a big chunk and so on. I think you’ll find that the Cats injury run from late 04 thru to early 06 was significant – so much so they sacked the fitness guy. In the middle of 05 they had something like 8 of their best 22 missing. With injuries its as much who is missing as how many.

Carl,

They had the Swans covered until King did his calf and had to go off in the 3rd quarter. Mooney gave his all in the ruck in the last 2 quarters but was just done by the end. Davis kicked a couple out of his arse. They lost by a couple of points in the last 6 seconds to the eventual premiers. If that consititutes a choke then so be it. At various stages in 05 they lost Kelly to a broken leg, Playfair who was actually playing good football at CHF to a busted jaw, Enright to another jaw from memory, and various others to soft tissue injuries. At one stage for a few weeks they had 4 out of 5 from their spine missing. The sacking of the fitness adviser in the early part of 06 was attributed to the horrendous run of soft tissue injuries in 05 that carried onto early 06.

Compared to the last two years Geelong have had a much better run with injuries this year. Not sure how much of that is the revamp of the medical and fitness guys and how much is just luck. The lack of injuries means that have a fair bit of depth at present with 3 or 4 that could step back into the side in Chapman, Harley, Prismall and Hawkins. Early days and a long way to go but their first half against Port was the best football they have played in a long time. They just need to stay fit and not peak too early.

Dear admin,

Couple of things. Can the view recent posts not just list all the posts but the topics they are in, like the old board did? That way I don’t have to read 783 individual posts on the position of the little finger on the left hand at the top of the swing before I get to the bits I want to get to, like Jack rediscovering the Cashmore Forum or Jerry selling yet another driver. The other thing is I’m currently looking at the Save Reply screen and the colour of the text for things like “file upload” is near impossible to see against the background colour.

Functionality and usability seems dramatically less than the “old” software. From a commercial perspective it might have been important to get ads on the forum pages but there’d need to be a lot of functionality added to what is here now or the ads will be running to about 5 people.

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / What hole is this?

Boonie,

He was obviously operating in disguise. What gave it away as Matty (besides the Preparation H stance) was the fact that only a nice high, gay fade could have got the ball into that spot.

St Andrews,

The spine is 18 inches to 2 feet high. The right pin position is one of my favourites on the Old. Tiny little area, death short, bunker (then death) long, tough chip from the right and a ton of room left and everyone ignores the paddock left and gets sucked into going at it.

Classic.

Topic: Golf Talk / Golf clubs and international airline travel

I do about 4 US trips a year and take my clubs with me at least twice. Hard cases are a complete pain - you are much better off with a quality soft cover. Easier to handle, fits better in boots etc etc. The ONLY cover worth getting is a Club Glove - expensive but indestructible. Either the Last Bag if you have a staff bag or the Burstproof if you have a carry bag. A Stiff Arm or piece of broomstick in them and you are as good as gold.

In terms of shoes ALWAYS declare your golf shoes unless they are new in the box. I didn't on a trip a year or so ago and even though I had cleaned them with a tooth brush and the soles were spotless I copped a written warning for not declaring them. If you don't declare them and you get a pain in the backside inspector they will go you regardless of how clean they are. The other thing is if you do declare them that line tends to be shorter these days anyway. All they do is have a qucik look and if they are clean, wave you through. Oh and wipe the faces of the irons as well.

Lastly Qantas are fairly good but some of the budget airlines here and OS will charge for clubs, so check before you leave if you are connecting to other flights.
