Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Pre shot Routine Im a 12 handicapper, and usually shoot mid to low 80's, even though I can have some great scores for nine holes or more, and it would look like I'd break 80, my score would blow out and I would get very frustrated, as I know I'm capable of better. I have just finished reading a great book by Dr. Bob Rotella, "Golf is not a game of perfect." If you want to learn about pre shot routine and mind "control" whilst playing golf, then this is the book for you.
Over the past two weeks I have followed the advice and kept my
mind focused and if I hit a bad shot, I would not let it get to
me, I would follow my pre shot routine and continue on. The first
week, I shot a 78 (40 stableford points), last week was a 77 (41
stableford points). I could say that even that score could have
been better if I had not triple bogeyed the last hole , but I
have a short term memory for such bad things now, I cant even
remember it!!!!!!!! Seriously, it is a very informative book and Im looking forward to improving some more.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Irons I have recently upgraded my clubs from the Power Bilt Grand Slam oversize (bought 2 years ago) and they are a very good club for someone starting off or getting back into the game after an extended absence. However, if I had the time over, I would have researched more thoroughly and I may have gone the way of the clone club instead. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Does your wife play golf ?
My wife loves to watch the golf on TV with me, if fact she would
watch it without me I have bought her a couple of clubs and she has been out to the driving range with me a few times, but she gets very frustrated.. :? :? :? (Sounds like the making of a true golfer  )
Maybe in time she will get more into it...hopefully in time for
our retirement...cause its gunna be awfully lonely back in the
caravan when Im out playing |

Wont be playing this weekend or next weekend as I am on call with
work, and it is just not worth risking going out to play when you
could get called out  (Anyone have a vacancie that does not
require w/e or on callwork :?: :?: :?: Will have to try and get to the driving range for some practice... |

back Ben Hogan irons...!!!!!!!!!! Heaven forbid, a professional golfer using cavity backs...how can that be????? Dont all low handicap players use blades???? And low and behold, he came second...how did he do it???

Topic: Golf Talk / What are your golfing goals this year?
Better course management... Having restarted playing after a 10
year absence in April/May last year and starting on 16, I am now
down to 11...hopefully with better course management, as well as
practice, especially my putting, I can get down to the magical
single figure handicap... |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Cobra SS 370 Anyone from Melb know of a shop that has demo models of the 370 that you can take out and use for 18/36 holes? Tried HOG in the city, but they only take you down to Albert Park DR and it costs you $60 and you HAVE to buy one of the drivers you take over. You do not get a refund if you dont like the drivers. Thanks... bully |

Topic: Golf Talk / Jekyl and Hyde round...... Talk about a Jekyl and Hyde round on Saturday... Started on #10...and by the end of the first nine I'd had 43 shots...thats with a 4 putt     , followed by a 3 putt on the next green    Then Im not sure what happened...but went birdie, bogey, par (with a lost ball), par, bogey (another 3 putt!!), par, birdie, birdie, par...to be 35 (1 under) coming home... Finishing with a respectful 78-12-66 Luckily, as I told my wife I was going to shoot a 79 or better... Any other Jekyl and Hyde games? bully |

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Whats the worst course in Australia There are some interesting names on the honour role of the Sandgreens Championship... Trevor Tully, well known golfer around the Bendigo area...as well as Lex Johnstone...went through senior H.S. with him... was a fantastic junior golfer... played in the school team with him and 2 other guys... one was the Club Champion at Quarry Hill G.C when he was 16...we won the Vic Schools championship that year... Did not see my brothers name..but the list only goes back to 1980..so not sure if it was before then... bully |

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Whats the worst course in Australia
Nothing wrong with sand scrapes... My old home club was initialy sand scrapes and was progressivley moved to grass greens... I also played alot of pennant golf on the sand scrape courses in central victoria... One course, whose name just escapes me for now...had small wire fences around the sand scrapes...to keep the sheep off!!!!!!!!!!!! If you hit the wire, you could either have another shot or play where it finished... the same course had this huge gum tree smack bamg in the middle of the fairway...so you had to go around it... Do they still have the Sandscrape Championship of Victoria??? I think my brother won it one year... |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Component Vs Name Brands I have to say, I am impressed with the ACER XDS Wide Sole irons...used them on Saturday in the comp and they were a very nice iron to play with. I used the 3 iron off the tee all day, (except for the par 3's..!!!) and played % golf (or tried too). I used all clubs during the round...and was pleased with the length I got with all of them. The longer irons had a 'tinny sound' when hit, but this did not affect the shot in any way. It may have also been I was using the harder Top Flite XL 3000 long and straight ball. I finished with a 80 (9 over, Im off 12), after being 2 over for the front nine... ... I actually hit the ball very well..it was my putting that let me down... :? Would recommend to give these irons a test run... bully |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Component Vs Name Brands Went to the range last night and had a hit with the XDS wide soles...was impressed with them... Hit some very nice shots...dont really worry about distance at the range, as the golf balls are pretty crap  But did get some nice straight shots going... I will be using them tomorrow in comp, so I'll see how I go...

Topic: Golf Equipment / Component Vs Name Brands
Picked up a demo set of the ACER XDS wide sole irons with Rifle
FCM 5.0 stepless shafts from Club Tech in Melbourne and will
hopefully be going to the driving range tonight, then using them
in competition on Saturday. Its good that you can get a demo set to try before you buy... I did not know about the component clubs when I bought my new set of clubs last April, and if I had of, Im positive I would have gone that way and purchased from a component maker. Who knows, if I like them, I will replace my current set with one from a component maker.

Topic: Golf Talk / Practice facilities near workplace Do you think there are enough practice facilities where you are? Would you practice at lunch time if there were some practice nets available?
Before work? Do you think the cost of a bucket of balls is too high? (How much would u pay?) I work in the Melb CBD and the closest is the Albert Park Driving Range. It would take most of my hour just to get there and back...
