Topic: Golf Equipment / What's Your Brand?

Whatever’s cheapest at the time, at the appropriate level of quality for my game. Once you start buying brand names, you’ve been sucked in.

I may well have the worst short game in Australia.

not quite ol chap.. When I started, I matched my clubs accordingly, ( e.g a rapier setfrom amart), then as I progressed and got better, I upgraded my gear as I went along, and found that as I reached a certain level, I rewarded myself with an item of new equipment whatever that may be, and found that once fully kitted out then with rather good branded clubs, ( albeit a mixed brand set ) i was able to shoot more conistent scores, then of course that bred confidence, and we all know what that does for our games, right !!

Topic: Golf Talk / How did you all play this weekend?

yeah well, down on four handicap, I only lose .1 per shot under ccr, as opposed to the .2 i would normally get when I was off 5 or better. Not too sure how it works down this low, but i know if you’re far enough away from the ccr on the high side, i can go out by .2, instead of the .1. but the 74 i had gave be 70 nett, with the ccr @ 67 that day, so I only went out .1????? All I know is, is that it gets mighty tough to consistently play to such a low handicap. ( oh the hardship of it all… lol ) One thing that i do get great pleasure out of, is that I am self taught. I have never had a lesson. I mean I’m not cocky or pigheaded believing that I know everything there it about this game….. god forbid that ever being said huh lol…, it’s just that i enjoy reading different articles, then trying to fault find, and condition my swing accordingly. So, in actual fact guys, i guess I am getting lessons via tips from magazines, etc, but just self administering them. Hardly ever practise, though, i just like to weork things through while out on the course playing rounds… I guess I don;t have the patience to sit there belting balls on the range, or chipping or putting for ages on end. just doesn;t appeal to me..

anyhow cheers all

cheers all

Topic: Golf Talk / My clubhead snapped off - what now?

I was at the driving range today testing out my new Cleveland Hibore 5 wood. First outing – i was hitting them really well. With about 4 balls left, the head snapped off the shaft.

I am now wondering what i should do. I was told i should go to the place where i bought it – only thing i got it off ebay.

I have contacted the guy i got it from, but i havent got a reply yet. Hopefully he should reply soon.

I am wondering whether it was a faulty product, a fake, or just bad luck? (how can i tell if it is fake or not – i am sure it is real, i was hitting it well and it went very well too. Only thing a bit weird was the sound – a bit tinny – are Hibores meant to sound like that?)

Anyone else had a problem – what did you do?

gotta stop swinging it like daly for a start lol

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Why do the pros do this?

pretty much works like that, I use it occasionally, I can see kind of which way the ground moves around the hole. that kind of thing.

give it a shot… if you know what you’re looking for, you’ll see it.

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / FLOP SHOTS

i agree, use it only if you need to …... hard to get it consistently, but if you have the touch it should be ok

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / FLOP SHOTS

i wouldn’t go much more than the 54 degree wedgem purely for the fact that you will have to be quite precise with how you hit it. Obviously the longer the iron you go, the harder to get it straight up , due to less loft on the club. I use my 60 degree vokey spin milled for all my flop shots, and only when I really ahve to call on that shot. depending on your skill level, you should find alternatives to the flop shot, as it is a hard shot to pull off consistently. In that, I eman there is quite a margin of error to be had, so it’s not as easy as it looks. E#ven with my 60, I open the face fully, and take a full committed swing, aiming a little left of my target, but remember you have to fully committ to the shot, and not come in thin on it, or it’s gone.

cheers
