I don’t think I’ve ever been to a game before where he umpires had such an impact. Maybe only the 1/4 of the 2002 grand final.

Absolutely ludicrous was the umpires incessant desire to penalise and then give further penalties (50m) for very little.

I know we need them, but do they realise they are secondary to the game. The players are the real stars. Sure the rules committee has buggered things up with stupid ideas, but the umpires could be a little more liberal in their interpretation.

I reckon at least half the goals came from free kicks, whether directly and indirectly (and far too many pathetic decisions), and there were at least as many taken away because of stupid free kicks.

And not to mention Dale Thomas being robbed of a car. As far as I am concerned it was a goal. It may not go in the records, but we even got to celebrate it and had sat down waiting for a centre bounce before we relised they were about to throw it back in.

Massive game for the pies this week.

A must win, as we’ve got the cats next week and 3 losses in a row is going to be tough on the kids and we’ll start to lose touch with the top 4.

The way these kids are playing I reckon Bucks should just announce his retirement and stop taking up a spot on our list that another potential superstar could be using.

Gibbs isn’t up to it yet. He’d be playing VFL in any other team. Walker too often butchers it and Russell is nothing special.

Interesting point that if the blues don’t win another game they get an extra priority pick in the draft. I reckon it would be worth it, but to lose that many games would be soul destroying for a club that is finally starting to head in the right direction (the half-assed performance on Friday night is not indicative of the steps the club has taken).

Whats even funnier is that even if Richmond was to not win a game they could still miss out on the first pick.

Rubbish, Cloke was merely useful in 02/03 due to the fact that Presti, Clement and Wakelin were in career best form and Cloke never had a tough job to perform. He has never beaten a decent forward and is only good for a spoil. His best form was playing loose in defence and even then he only adds negative value. He is a terrible kick, chokes under pressure and has the athletic abilities of a marshmellow. Sure he was reasonably brave and timed his spoils fairly well but he adds very little value at AFL level.

As other have said, VFL is his level. He will be a very good long term VFL player as he is not capable of holding down an AFL position. He may well be a handy addition to some teams, but picking him is heading in the wrong direction. The game has gone past Clokey. But with that said you cant question his determination and he may well be a reliable backup defender that some teams need.

The pies now have Maxwell who is a very similar player, but better, although he barely makes the grade.

The defenders first movement is to grab hold of the forward. Rocca is merely trying to get an arms length on the defender. At least Rocca is trying to get the ball, what is Holland trying to do?

The thing that annoyed me most all game was the pies refusal to zone up on the kickins. That cost them the game. We never got a second chance to score again and they casually took the ball the length of the ground far too many times. It actually led to a number of their scoring opportunities. At half time I had already pulled out all my hair in frustration at our lack of change and to see to continue for the second half made my blood boil. Malthouse and the assistants F’d up big time there.

I don’t blame the umpires for the loss but the umpiring was inconsistent and favoured Melbourne. The missed hands in the back from Robbo when the pies had fought back to within 2 points was just infuriating. We’d been crucified on the sooky girl hird rule all day and to not get that one was ridiculous.

I agree on the dees, they are and have been strong through the middle for years, a place where the pies are the weakest, but the dees are ordinary over the rest of the ground. Although with Presti, Clement and O’Brien now gone, and Wakelin over the hill, our backline strength is now completely diminished we are in real trouble and will need to kick lots of goals to win games, which will be hard with two of the worst kicks in the comp as our forwards.

Gee that was a disappointing loss. To lose to a very ordinary side and to get raped by the umpires was frustrating.

But to be 7 and 4 at the halfway mark is good enough for me. i expected the pies to be bottom 4ish this year so I am rapt and I hope they can win enough to make the finals and have a real crack with a full strength side.

The kids we’ve played have been reasonably good and the changeover to the next generation is well underway and not looking so bad, but I expect them to mostly fall away in the second half of the year and the older guys to get over their injuries, find form and bring home the premiership…

I’m a bit shocked to hear he’s been charged, but with the new GayFL rule interpretations I’m hardly surprised. It was a stupid bump, at a crucial time of the game too, and he deserves to sit out a week for it. He doesn’t look 100% fit to me anyway, so I reckon he should just cop it and get some rest.

Best win of the year I reckon. To beat a side that is stronger, faster and better skilled (besides that total hack no.17 of theirs) is a great effort.

I saw a short doco on a 13 year old playing pro (semi-pro?) womens golf on the weekend. Her parents were over the top yanky types who followed her around high fiving and dancing after birdies. Then when she makes a bogey (admittedly she made quite a few) her parents slump forlorn about to cry.

FFS, golf is a biatch of a game, you don’t need idiots for parents like that bringing you down. They put far too much pressure on this 13 year old, she was crying as she walked up the 18th.

Pendlebury is an interesting one. He just seems to have more time and space than everyone else. Sort of like Daicos or Hird they manage to find room where there is none.

Buckley has played in some shite teams over the years, as we know from the pies well documented drafting so I don’t think there is a lot to be taken from his stats.

Just like the tiges now, there isn’t much to be gained from kicking it 30+ times when there isn’t going to be anyone decent on the other end.

All I’ll say is I am happier when he is in the side, but I am nervous for him (if and) when he returns.

Watching the likes of Hird, Craporeale and Kouta recently makes me wonder why they just didnt retire last year. I’m hoping Bucks doesn’t turn out the same.
