A V6 towing a wind sock. Otherwise around 10L / 100.
Petrol is only a small part of TCO when I do under 15,000 p.a.

Hiring a cart is $35, so it's still cheaper.

Maybe they should lower their cart fees? With only 14 players its not like the carts are getting run into the ground is it? (Cue opening for another gag)

Country clubs are doing it real tough for many reasons....

Country towns are shrinking with the younger generation heading to bigger places for work
Drought
Cost of playing the game

Go the current American course design philosophy of having only 6 hole legs.

So use 18 small tees and 6 greens.

Trentham in country Vic use lots of double tees. One going South and one North for example. So less tees to maintain.

As for the drought how about finding a politician who will build dams and a pipeline from FNQ, with some of the wettest places on earth, through Western Qld and NSW. Not technically difficult and only requires a few Greenies to be eliminated.

I think you just answered the question as to why letting it go is inevitable.

I entirely agree that it's inevitable. Just not yet. We've had the same captain for 25 years and have to let him run his course (as in river, not golf course).

You misunderstand the situation.
Olinda doesn't have its own course. The old Olinda Golf Course was a public course at which the club called 'home'. With the state government failing to maintain their property (crown land), the club moved to Emerald (another public course but that was privately owned). That has also closed (and been taken over by druggies and squatters).

The Olinda club is now hosted at Cardinia Beaconhills Golf Course but retains its independent identity. We are very thankful to Cardinia Beaconhills Golf Club (who operate the course) for hosting us, to the benefit of both clubs.

Carts are run by the pro shop, not us. We do have one cart of our own which we rent to our members. I use my own.

I don't know about Coona, but even the state govt won't mow their own crown land which is now a serious bushfire hazard. Its open spaces used to be a refuge for the local Olinda community. Our taxes ar work (NOT).

have you proactively sent your state member, or wherever the buggery it is's State Member a letter telling them this?

have you complained to them at all?

have you made use of your God given right as a tax draining pensioner to write a letter about this?

c'mon man now's your chance, how do that know they have wronged you if you don't let them know, they're not the Keysie proshop, they don't read these forums

Oh, they know alright !

The local Labor member was also the minister for sport & recreation (Merlino) and we had a number of meetings with him as the Olinda course deteriorated. We also had numerous meetings with Parks Victoria, the dept responsible.

Lots of promises, absolutely no action.

They could have spent $100K p.a. and retained the course as a viable proposition.
Now they are proposing to spend many millions on 'upgrading' the area into a community park so that the locals can walk their dogs with less chance of snake bites.
