That would all depend on what your comp fees are and the cost of the winning vouchers.

As an aside...... how the hell does you club stay open??

Our monthly medal yesterday had 14 players, two of whom were female.

Two grades & Ladies.

Comp fees $5, winner $10 (except yesterday, he gets a medal instead), second $5, 4 balls DTL based on 14 players.

Not sure about the ladies' win, it's $5 or $3 or a ball.  We're trying to encourage more ladies.

Weather was not an issue, although cup weekend may have been.  Usually get around 20 on a Saturday.

By the time I pay $25 in petrol, $35 in green fees, $5 comp fee and $10 or more for drinks, any winnings are incidental.

Find somewhere to amalgamate.

Or

Don't have a comp on Saturday
Get the local football/cricket/netball clubs members to join and play on Sunday on a special deal.

Why does Olinda bother ?

Just have a nice afternoon tea with the remaining funds and let it go.

A V6 towing a wind sock. Otherwise around 10L / 100.
Petrol is only a small part of TCO when I do under 15,000 p.a.

Hiring a cart is $35, so it's still cheaper.

The club has been going 50 years through trial and tribulation. We can't just 'let it go'. A good, close knit community, but getting older every year with not enough newbies coming in.

I think you just answered the question as to why letting it go is inevitable.
