Hi all,

I would like some of your input in choosing a private golf membership between two clubs.

1. Rosanna Golf Club - https://www.rosannagolf.com.au

Pros:
1. 15 minutes drive from home. Hence I can quickly go for a 9 hole round after work.
2. Only 30 mins drive from Melbourne city so friends are more likely to come out and play together.
3. Members are extremely social and overall good vibe.
4. Already have couple people I know who are members here. Good place to know the local community.

Cons:
1. Greens are very slow.
2. Not in the top 100 ranking in Australia.
3. Short driving range - max 7 iron
4. Slightly more picey - Joining fee of $1500 and annual membership of $3200.
5. There is $8 fee for every club competition.

2. The Eastern Golf Club - https://www.easterng...displayHomePage

Pros:
1. Designed by Greg Norman and ranked in top 50 in Australia.
2. No fees to join weekly competition.
3. 27 holes with other facilities like children's play room, fishing, bush walking trail etc.
4. Cheaper membership - Joining fee $1000 and annual membership of $2500.
5. State of art Taylormade fitting facility.

Cons:
1. 30 mins drive from my home. 1 hour from the city.
2. Very young course. 3 years old I believe.

About myself:
Have a new born son of 6 months. Like to practice on the range and play 2 times a week. Corporate job in marketing.

It would be good to hear your opinions. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the post itchy4scratch. I played there yesterday actually. Loved the green and very challenging course but too crowded. I live in Eltham.

Of the 2 you mentioned, Eastern hands down.
Also, free range balls is a big plus.

The coaching studio there is phenomanal.

Rosanna also has some terribly boring holes

So Max, if I don't respond to your comments, it's just because I'm ignoring you because I think you're an arsehole

Thanks for the replies guys. I will be checking out Eastern on Saturday and Rosanna on Sunday. Is Eastern doing ok financially? Seems like a lot of the Yarra Valley courses are going in the red financially from what i gather from forums. Thoughts?

I know you've specified private, but have a look at Growling Frog - I'm also in Eltham, it's 20 minutes drive in the morning, and a better layout than either Rosanna or Heidelberg.

Around $1560 for 7 day course access, $155 to join the club attached to the course.

If you're tossing up between Rosanna and Heidelberg, it's Heidelberg in my opinion. Course conditioning has never been better, and it's a far more interesting layout.

Other, less impressive stuff...(I know...it's marginal...)

C Grade LD Growling Frog 26/12/17, 15th hole, Callaway BB Alpha, HOF Patriot shaft, same old testicles of steel
C Grade LD Growling Frog 11/8/18, blah blah blah,,,,this is getting to be almost monotonous.....

C Grade LD Growling Frog 1/9/18,...maybe these are now so commonplace I should just stop listing them

NTP Yering Meadows 25th hole 1/12/18...and again 30/12/18

Never contended for the trophy named for me

Low Handicap point 12.7 9/4/16

Finally...and most importantly...

On a side note, how does Gardiners Run and Heritage compared to Eastern?

Heritage is a great layout on the two courses.  The owners are fairly insane and lot of games have gone on over the past 5 years, not sure on course condition.

Robnewy can talk about Gardeners.

Eastern has a money in the bank and is very secure...just google Eastern Golf Club & Mirvac and you will see why.

Have you considered Green Acres or Latrobe?

Personally with a young family I would choose something as local as possible so that you can get there with the limited time available.  Interesting that you say Heidelberg is too crowded, I have played there many times and not formed that view.

It's better than Rosanna.

Hi Littleman,

I have considered Kew Golf Club, Green Acres and LaTrobe but they are the same distance away as Eastern - 30 mins. Hence I decided to rule them out as Eastern is ranked in the top 100 and price is lower than Kew.

Hi Snappy,

Yes, that is the main reason why I am so torn between Eastern vs Rosanna. I can even do a quick 9 hole and get back home @ Rosanna... However, I really think the amenities (bush walking, fishing, cycling, game rooms, gym etc) at Eastern will be good when the child grows up a bit and want to bring my family there as well. My wife does enjoy bush walking and good wine and Eastern does provide that.

Maybe it was just the day I went to HGC was exceptionally busy. We had to hit into the team ahead of us to make them move faster and the team behind us was pushing us as well... So it felt more like a run on the hilly course. Loved the green but didn't enjoy the experience when I was feeling rushed and exhausted... LOL...
