Undoubtedly he has the talent, just concentration lapses get him sometimes.

Apparently he was lucky not to be run-out ...again.

Thanks Uzi

Well played Uzzie

And Travis and Tim. They might not have got the huge score. But both batted for a very long period which was needed to see out the 4 sessions. Runs were a bit secondary to time batted.

Was I the only one thinking what the **** was starc and then siddle doing going out to bat ahead of Lyon?

I mean starc and Siddle are your men if you were chasing a total and needed to give it a tonk, you need a sheet anchor like Lyon if your playing for the draw....I am fairly confident if Lyon went in place of starc the draw would have happened allot earlier.

I'm pretty certain the draw would have happened at exactly the same time.

Tried hard in recent years to get re-enthused with Aussie cricket (again), and yes, that was an admirable draw.

And, that was a good man-of-the-match effort by UK.

But, from personal experience, just can't warm to him at all. Got a huge 'I'm a Muslim', I didn't do anything wrong, you're picking on me, I didn't do that (even though witnessed to have done it) attitude (golf related). The blokes a precious grub as far as I'm concerned.

Add in the Smith/Warner etc mob and it's all heading down the toilet.....for mine.

Test cricket seems to be dying, the one-day game is dead, and Big Bash 20/20 seems to be thriving. Although, have been to a game, it appears to be an afternoon quickie experience for the kids (who love it), and a chance for their dads to down a few cold ones.

And, I'm probably wrong in all the above anyway. ;)

One test doesn't make a summer but there was some good signs...
Finch surprised in red ball cricket
Head's 2nd innings impressed
Manus Loosebuschange has the makings of a spinning allrounder
Uzzie really stood up
The Marsh boys.... fark me
Hastings is a trundler at best...

Drop S Marsh and bring in Renshaw on the condition he doesn't field under a helmet and bring on the 2nd test

I was gobsmacked to hear that Renshaw had already copped a couple of concussions in his time and was then being asked to field at short leg.

WTF?

Labuschagne might have some potential as a spinning all-rounder but his first-class record (at least at this stage) indicates that he is not Test Match calibre at this stage of his career. By playing him at No. 6 he throws the entire balance of the team out. You can't have your No. 6 at Test level averaging around the low-30's at First Class level.

While I think he has potential, there is no way he should be keeping someone the calibre of Matt Renshaw out of the batting line up. While it was a courageous draw, it shouldn't mask the fact that our batting was fragile again on a track that was fairly flat against a bowling attack that shouldn't scare anyone on a Day 2 and 3 pitch (Day 5 it might though!). The addition of Renshaw would really strengthen our batting line up and he really needs to come back in for the second Test.

Although I guess you could have the same argument about Mitch Marsh who also averages in the low-30's at First Class level and even worse than that at Test level!

The days of guys averaging mid-40's in Sheffield Shield for years on end demanding selection in the Baggy Green appear to be a thing of the past............I blame 20-20 cricket!
