I would never buy one for myself, but one of my regularly playing partners has one and it is mighty handy sometimes.

 

Yep pretty much my thoughts as well. No way would I have one of these in my bag but if my ball is in the pond and I can't reach it with my wedge I have no hesitation getting my mate with his ball retriever to scoop it out for me.

I don't understand. What's wrong with carrying a ball retriever? It's only used on rare occasions but does allow one to recover their ball and be absolutely certain (not just virtually so) that the ball was in a WH.

It's not as though you have to give up a club out of your 14.
