There is a new distance survey out which I figured some of you might be interested in: https://www.randa.or...stance-insights

I basically think the distance issue is a non issue. Players are better coached, fitter and equipment is getting better. Which is normal for all sports.

I dont think its ever been an issue. Just people whinging like normal.

Some issues with that survey though.

"How far does your 7 iron travel?"

>130m - 165m

>165m - 200m

Those ranges are massive for a mid-iron.

My 7 iron travels about 100 metres. But that's only if I'm really angry and use the full hammer throw technique.

Just getting in before Obe...
If your ball goes 150 straight, then 20 right, it's only 151.33m away from where it started.

And who said you'd never use pythagoras again after school.

This survey is from 2015, with the amount of TM clubs released since then that promise a 10 yard gain that is 30 yards on top.

The survey says 2018 at the top of it? Are we looking at the same thing? Or has this just been around for years and they are updating the titles.

LoL. So my issue with the ranges was my 7 iron would average about 165 (sort of a 160-170 club for me). So if i select the higher option i'm the same category as savages that hit it 200. But the lower one puts me in the same group that hit it 130. So hardly useful data.

I guess the real issue with an online survey will be how far people claim to hit it when sitting behind their keyboards. Survey will likely reveal an epidemic of 14 year olds carrying driver 300+

that same 13 Yo kid won longest drive in our clubs 25 year anniversary tournament last week after hitting 4 iron in from 200 yards on the par 5 18th 564 yard hole, with a wind assisted drive of 360 yards.

He combined with his 16 YO brother to shoot 63 off the stick and a net 59 to win the 2 man scramble event.
