We have the Ping rep this Saturday and have booked my self
in for a 40 min fitting. Very exciting for me as I have never done this before, My club has a WAGS 9 hole comp on Wednesdays and we play of the front tee blocks about 20 mts shorter than the blue markers  ( white markers ) I am averaging around scratch some days 2 under par in this comp but play of 7 for 18 holes. I would love to have an extra 20mts on my drive and wondering if a club fitting will help me achieve this, i have a 3 year old Ping driver so the fitting being ping
suits me well.
Fingers crossed and any advice from you mob before hand would be awesome

Go TaylorMade

The Tailor-made rep came through last week, our pro had told nobody about him so nobody turned up.

My new ping G400 has arrived and can not hit it any longer, so after a few rounds have realised the shaft is 30mm shorter than my old shaft.

Straight on to eBay and have bought Project X PXv 39 6.0 Flex Stiff Plus Driver Shaft from sydneygolftech I also asked for new grip, ping adapter and shaft extension to stick a extra 70mm length into the butt end of the shaft.

With some google research the word is for every inch added to a shaft you get 5 extra mts of carry.

When the shaft arrived it was an uncut tip and was already 70mm longer than the standard shaft that came in my Ping. I glued the grip and adapter together with out the extension.
My new Ping G400 now is a whopping 1220mm 48inches from ground to tip of the grip.
Yesterday I played my first round and have never hit the ball so far, the stick felt awesome recon I have gained at least 30mts. My regular playing group was stunned by the extra distance, I sliced 2 drives from over swinging.
The exercise has been a huge susses and can now swing with a nice tempo and get very good length.

End of rant.

Well I hope you continue to find the sweet spot on that bloody long driver of yours, cause if you don't, you might find you are in trouble off the tee.

Most pro's of course go for shorter length drivers, cause its easier to find the sweet spot consistently

I reckon if its sound theory for them, then its a pretty good practice for us mere mortals, but hopefully you are the one to go against the trend successfully.

Thanks GPJ
If I had a 100 plus swing speed I could use a short shaft also

Puttorv, sorry to say the sad news is that the length of your driver is soon to be capped at 46" under the new rules. I think that they take effect and are valid from the first of next year. Worth checking but your new found distance will be short lived !

I thought any new rules surrounding equipment only covered the use of DMD's and damaged equipment during a round?

Happy to be shouted down though

I am going out on a limb here and will say that I think Jon has his details of the change courtesy of the REO Speedwagon method of information delivery
