Great article about how their friendship is growing adn a new business venture for them!

Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson planning $10 million match-play showdown

At this year's Players, a month after the Masters, Wood and Mickelson were paired together and Phil said, "The excitement that's been going on around here, it gets me thinking: Why don't we just bypass all the ancillary stuff of a tournament and just go head-to-head and just have kind of a high-stakes, winner-take-all match. Now, I don't know if he wants a piece of me, but I just think it would be something that would be really fun for us to do, and I think there would be a lot of interest in it if we just went straight to the final round."

By then negotiations were well under way for the match so Woods was happy to play along, saying, "I'm definitely not against that. We'll play for whatever makes him uncomfortable."

Someone should tell Phil that's it's ok, there are still people talking about him.

Phil is so like Kelly Slater ... Has to try and stay relevant.

But, let's not miss the brilliant marketing spin here... They supposedly play for $10m, but, the money this would garnering from tv rights alone will return them both double if not triple that... Plus, their sponsors getting enormous value to the next contract renewal, it's a new benchmark.

Brilliant business.

I doubt either Phil or tiger are the genius behind it... Both have good teams of business advisors, not to mention their sponsors people etc.

I think it's brilliant.

A new direction for golf.

This could be like the revolution that one day cricket brought to that game...

Would be nice if it was their own personal money and not in any way sponsored or reimbursed in any fashion

I've hear rumours over the years that Phil does love a bet on the golf course. So who knows, maybe he was talking about his own cash.

Bit harsh Hack?

Slater is still relevant. I don’t even surf and I think he’s a legend. I’m often wrong though.

Kelly Slater won eternal relevance for rooting Pamela Anderson. surely anything else he did was irrelevant.

See, off topic in 9 posts, must be a record?
