DeChambeau is using a pair of compasses (bow compass as explained by AAA) but, he should be using a pair of dividers. A needlepoint on each leg of the pair of dividers. Used to measure distance as against drawing a circle. No pencil required.

The verdict has been handed down, using a compass the way Bryson was, is illegal.

I thought it had already been ruled as ok.

The website works for me.

The USGA came back and said they are ruling it as a breach if used.

worked for me as well.

His caddy should go out before his round and check the pin positions if its such a concern.

In actuality, the PGA Tour has a condition that caddies are not allowed on the putting greens on the day of the stipulated round before the round begins.  I was once selecting holes with a PGA Tour official and a caddie was following us around, taking notes, but being very careful not to step on the putting green.  I asked the obvious question and was given the answer - "not allowed".

If it were allowed, can you imagine all the caddies out on the greens early and rolling balls to the new hole location?

Yeah fair enough. It would be a major problem for sure if allowed.  Bryson doesnt seem to think the hole locations or measured correctly in some cases?

If the USGA was a world cup soccer team they would be expert at own goals. They decided that is not ok yet they allow green mapping books. Incredible! Asleep at the wheel as per usual.

I am pleased with Decision to stop the compass stuff. The measurement stuff is over the top. If the info is not perfect, so what. It is not perfect for everyone in the field.
Get on with the game. Hit the ball.
