Surely DQ is in order after Phil deliberately hit a moving ball intentionally choosing the 2 stroke penalty (in his words) over the likely outcome.

 Thoughts?

For those defending Phil.....if he was as smart as he thinks he is, shouldn't he have hit the moving ball as it passed the cup......holing it would've been easy and it would have saved him 2 shots!

For the record, I think DQ is the obvious decision.

I like Phil but agree - DQ

There’s using the rules to your advantage and using them to pervert the nature of the game itself and he did the second

The USGA explained why they are sticking with 2 Penalty strokes in post game interview.
Essentially Rule 14-5 is the applicable Rule so no need to go to Rule 1-2.

Mention was made of Rule 33-7 by a commentator.
It would require the Committee to decide it was a Serious Breach of Etiquette to disqualify Phil M.
I think 2 PS enough.
Spur of the moment stuff by P M.
It was shocking to see a Professional do this on TV.
Ask yourself this if a Club Member did this would a Committee hit the member with DQ? I don’t think so.

If that wasn’t a “Serious Breach of Etiquette” than I don’t know what is.

DQ the fat karnt.

Given he’s admitted he did it because he thought the 2 shots would be better than the alternative I think Serious is warranted

So I'm just off the green for 2 and texas wedge up to the hole. I see it will miss left and I run up and tap it in as it rolls by. 6 for 2 with a 2 shot penalty included? LoL.

Except...you’re nowhere near the green for 2.

Cool story though. Needs more dragons.

p
First thing you show great skill in running and accurately tapping a moving ball presumably with Flagstick out. Try to do that in a practice session.
There is no great scoring advantage even if you can do which is very unlikely. If the ball was headed well past the hole you couldn’t catch it.
The only area of etiquette would be Spirit of The Game.
If you have a bad track record invoking 33-7 would be reasonable and DQ Mick.
If this was a one off I would apply 2 strokes and suggest you keep it to a one off.
The same for Phil M.
PM has played thousands of rounds of many years and has been a role model I reckon. I can’t recall any club throwing dummy spits and other unsavoury behaviour.
Thinking about it Mick you might not be a role model, even a serial offender. IN which case you should be DQ’D.
But you would save the Committee the trouble and not sign your card for automatic DQ.
Well done Mick!

He's a dumbarse. He could've just taken an unplayable and replayed the first putt.
