Why’s what?
What’s my patients got to do with it?

why's that you don't think you'll get it?

and that your patients don't come to you when they are sick with physical health reasons, do they?

so you are less likely to encounter sick patients

No I won’t be having it. Did a flu shot trial years ago with jnr woods, nothing happened to me, but he was very crook from it.

Haven't had the flu since 1968. Have never had a flu shot. Rarely travel on crowded trains, have contact with young children, spend time in enclosed spaces with large groups of people. Basically, I experience low risk.

I'm about to take 16 international flights in the next 2 months. Would've been dumb not to have a shot. I'm not dumb.

im too old and tired to explain tonight. I’ll try tomorrow. Essentially the evidence is flu shots rarely stop people being sick and don’t decrease morbidity and mortality and do carry (rare) risks.

We get a free flu shot every year through The Department. Working with vulnerable people make it necessary. Still take a sick day when I need one...

The crux of it is

1. Flu shot only stops true flu, not “flu like illness”
2. It halves your rate of true flu
3. You only get true flu about once every 10 yrs. so after 20 shots you will get true flu once in 20 years
4. Does not reduce death
5. Does not reduce severity of illness
6. Probably won’t protect from a pandemic which by definition is a new strain against which we have no herd immunity and might even increase risk because
7. Catching wild flu might protect better against pandemic
8. Flu shot has side effects. Fever, Febrile convulsions in kids, even 2 cases of death.
9. Flu shot only protects against the 3 or 4 strains they think most likely to hit us. They got this wrong last year.
10. That’s a huge public spend for little benefit. Think of all the GP appointments and free or subsidised shots and plastic needles and packaging.

That’s why I might not bother.

Saw my doc this morning, follow up re an infection from the family adventure, anyhow, asked him about a flu shot.

His response?

Why?

He elobareted with my surprised look...

"Waste of time. There's no evidence they work."

Seems he read the same research.

No jab for me.

I've had true flu twice in 45 years.

Crook as a dog for several days both times but have never considered the need for a flu vax.

At those odds, I don't see the point.

Not sure about that. There is countless evidence showing the effectiveness of the flu shot.

Now that's not saying it has a 100% efficacy but to say they don't work would be false.

Mate, not going to argue the issue since the data has been collated by others to prove the point.
