I had a round where I played off a h/c of 24. I though that meant I got 2 shot on the holes indexed 1 to 6.

The 1st hole is a par 4, it has an index 4, 26.

I shot a 6. I thought that meant I get 2 points but was told that the 26 meant you have to have a h/c of 26 or higher to get the 2 shots and that I only get 1 point.

Is that correct?

The 10th is a par 3,  it has an index 5, 29.

I shot a 4. As before I thought that meant I get 3 points but was told that the 29 meant you have to have a h/c of 29 or higher to get the 2 shots and that I only get 2 point.

Once again - Is that correct?

Hi leenn

Yes it is correct

some clubs have the cards set up with the spilt stroke index ratings like you say above.

These courses have decided where a par 3 rates low and they dont want to give 2 shots on par 3's.

So you have to score as per the card

so 6 on 1st = 6/ 1

Always look at the score card.

PS which course are you referring to

Staggered handicap strokes so the easier holes aren't butchered by the longer markers. Alot of clubs have adopted this rating system. You only have to read the card as to where you get the extra strokes !

Ha ha. RTFM or, in this case RTFscorecard as Jon said.

Simples.

Also note that it is the committee's responsibility to allocate the points. What this means is that you can fix the points up afterwards so you still get your full handicap allowance even if you stuff it up. Except where you don't record the score because you thought you'd had a wipe but still had a shot left.

Why would you record the score if you'd wiped. Pick up. Move on. That's the format.

People who insist on finishing holes when they've wiped certainly don't help with slow play that we all seem to complain about,

So out of interest what did you have on the holes rated 19 to 24, score and points, please ?

Thanks for the reply's.

To answer the questions

CB80 - the course in Goonawarra

Golfguy33 - read the score card - Yes but this is the 1st time I've actually scored on a double indexed card. I didn't understand that although the hole was indexed 4, you needed an h/c of 26 to get the 2 shots. You learn something new every game.

OB - As per my reply to GG33 above - I didn't understand that on a double index score card the aforementioned scoring occurred, My ignorance and hence this post.

RTFM, RTFscorecard - which manual, where on the scorecard does it explain this? I've never seen a scorecard that explains how to score or manual that explains

how score on double indexed cards.

Golfguy33 - score on holes indexed 19 to 24

hole 2, par 4, index 7,24 score 4 for 4 points

hole 3 par 4 index 3,21 score 4 for 4 points

hole 5 par 4 index 1,19 score 4 for 4 points

hole 8 par 5 index 8,22 score 5 for 4 points

hole 12 par 5 index 10,23 score 8+ for 0 points

hole 18 par 4 index 2,22 score 7+ for 0 points

At my last club we went through and set up a double rating system.

We went through and tracked 12 months of cards and found that the golfers with less than 18 h'cap found our par 5's easy so were ranked close to 18 but the higher h'cappers struggled so they came in around 16/24. It is a bit of anomaly as a 15 h'capper might get no shots and a 24 h'capper might get 2 shots on the hole.

Also found that the lower markers found the par 3's harder so were ranked lower but the higher h'cappers found them easier so ranked higher eg. 7/29.

It takes a bit of getting used to and the committee was fixing scores for a while after we implemented but it makes sense because it based on a large database of scores.

Did you even understand the question or the responses?
I would encourage that you do, because you play to a similar handicap and could ill-afford to get the scores wrong, on top of your:
1. inability to play golf (chuckle)
2. inability to sight where your tee shot has gone (another chuckle)
3. your ability to make random assumptive leaps (which probably leads to you searching for your ball 50m past where it really went)

It's like boxing at the special olympics. It doesn't matter who wins because they're both still retarded.
