An old mate of mine was using some sort of towelling wrap which tennis players put on their racquets on his clubs.

It fattened his grips which he needed because of arthritis and they were quite soft as well.

Grip tape is for under the grip, to fatten it up, not over the top of the grip.

Or is there something new out there?

Some thing new
It has no build up and is over grip tape apply in 2 minutes
I have nothing to do with this product
To be honest the supplier is for tennis and badminton
I have been using it on my clubs for 4 years now importing it from Yankee land
Its Crap in the rain but I am hooked on it as it never rains here

Sorry photos are poor and over grips are 6 months old but shows driver 6 iron and old putter

Just added 2 old photos this tape take 2 minuets to apply and cost about 70 cents per grip
The grips feel awesome and last about 6 mounts

I do not sell them just saying its out there bros

Gauzetape (Tourno) brand was very common for tennis players (incl pros) through 70-80s.

Current tennis grip tapes are softer chamois types, they work well as a DIY grip.
