just looked at the rules of golf and a ball that hits your bag is only 1 shot penalty not 2 so it cost me .1 on my hcp chase.
I know for next time

That’s not what I mean

They are hitting 5i because their drive is 40m behind yours

When you carry driver 240m - 270y you don’t worry about getting extra distance - you already have good distance - the guy who drives it 210 though is in a very different situation

Agree,

I play with a 15 YO Chinese kid who hits driver 20 to 30 yards past me, he lost the club chps in a playoff and he plays in world juniors in the US and he is the longest driver I've played with and he is middle of the road for length in the junior tournaments he plays so that's scary.

He can't hit it close inside 100 which is why he is not scratch.

The PGA Tour average driving distance is 290 odd yards.

If this kid is hitting hit 280-290 yards I don’t think he would be middle of the road in junior tournaments.

Don't get caught up with tour averages as it's taken on a select few holes, most tour pros hit it further than that, the kid plays in 15 to 17 age group and is obsessed with distance his father told me he is only middle range of the tournaments he plays in, there are plenty of kids hitting it 300 plus

I know how tour averages work and I know how far pros can hit it.

I also know how people exaggerate things, especially driving distances.

I know how far i hit it and i know how far he hits it, but i dont know how far his competitors hit it as im relying on what his dad said.

He carries it consistently 280 yards, he is about 2 inchs taller than me and has been working in the gym for 2 years trying to stay up to the field, he plays in the AJGA in the US and us trying to get a golf scholarship and play college golf before turning pro.

His brother is 2 years younger and is about 20 yards shorter but following the same path.

Ill get his correct name and we can look his ranking up in the AJGA or China tour.

FYI 145 players out of the field of 211 averaged 290 or longer in 2018, yet the tour avge is 293, 11 players averaged under 280.

Kids these days are easily hitting it 290.

To be honest its all about putts, my ball striking is ok there are plenty that pure it better and plenty that putt better, my chipping and sand game is solid and usualy chip to tap ins.

The best scores are when i hole putts, often its up and downs, dont make many birdies which im working on but make 12 to 15 pars a round.

GIR are not great probably my weakest link, around 48% i think which is what im working on and why im buying new irons.

FIR are pretty good usually 70% but i find this isnt a big factor on scoring, keeping in play and not fairways is more important.

Making putts and hitting it close are the biggest impact on scoring IMO, taking more club, controlled swings and getting the ball closer to the hole would slash strokes off anyones hcp

So which one is it? You putting or ball striking???  :D  :D

In all seriousness, I would suspect to get down to scratch and stay there, most ppl would need to hit around 60% of greens, otherwise you are placing way too much pressure on your short game.

tour average GIR is 64% I think anywhere in the 50s is fine for a scratch player if their short game is good, given 1 inch on the fringe is a missed GIR which is where averages are a little misleading,

I'm still not near enough to 50 or above so work to be done on approaches and I'm better and more comfortable chipping just off the green than long putting on it.

The secret is making birdies inside 100 yards and putting from inside 10 feet both are areas that I'm weakest in and don't practise.
