Could always go with fairways instead of hybrids. My burner tp 5wood is pretty similar in size to a lot of hybrids with biggish heads and i really use it more often than my 3 iron these days.

Now I don't mind that idea at all Itchy.

I've just got rid of my 14.5 deg 3 wood, and replaced it with a 16 degree lower profile one ..... but a nice solid 5W might not be a bad idea in terms of a 3 iron replacement.

I don't really use my 3 iron much around Beacy, (its more a "wood and wedge" course) perhaps once a round if that ..... but a soft 5W might be good option off the deck for other courses with longer par 4's or longer par 3's.

(The longest par 3's at Beacy I currently use 4 or 5 irons)

Flexible you reckon ? ....... I don't think I've stretched since the 80's, but you may be onto something I guess Mr Kressley.

If thats the case, FFS, don't stretch like you did all those years ago. Stretching is nowadays all about dynamic movement, not the old skool static stuff.

Look at yoga or pilates.

Also, just for sh.its n giggles, maybe try having a decent pre round warm up routine. Warm up n dynamically stretch the key muscles n joints.

Bit of cross training might help too. Maybe talk to the local gym, find a PT and get some counter balancing exercises, the ones to keep the body aligned from overuse of the golfing muscles.

As crazy as it sounds, I find surfing helps my golf swing. Balance, use of different muscles, etc.

Kelly Slater win 4 world titles after reading Ben Hogan's 5 lessons book. He took biomechanics from golf and applied it to surfing.

I've got another two words:

Foam
Roller

I swear by these, especially for getting rid of stiffness in quads, hammies, glutes and lower back.
If you haven't used one before, I'll warn you now, rolling your quads is going to be freakin excruciating the first few times you do it.
I only started doing it a few years back so I had 40 odd years of knots to get out.
Good Lord it was horrible.

Pretty soon though you'll get past the nastiness and then they become a brilliant way to stay limber

Interesting ....... The SIL used to be a long distance runner, and he uses one of those contraptions now that he seems to have given up running.

I might have to have a word to him about it all, next time I visit them over in their wing of the manor .... ;)

He didn't win did he?

I heard he gave it a good dig in the last round.

Goldy's mate sausagehead didn't use one though, that I can recall. I could be wrong. Goldy knows him well, he'll be along shortly to clarify things I'm sure.

Two things that I have prided myself on in life Hacky are .......

1. I've never been in prison,

and

2. I've never been inside a gym.

But yes, stretching and a decent warm up would no doubt do my game no harm, so it will be on the list of things to incorporate going forward. :)

As for stretching years ago Hacky, that consisted of doing half a dozen stretches on either leg, by putting my ankle over the pipe fence that ran around the cricket ground boundary, and then bending to put my head onto my knee.

Not the easiest thing to do in wicketkeeping pads, but it certainly got the hammies fired up before I went out to keep.

Okay ...

"age-proofing" my golf game. (By the way, I have copyrighted that phrase)

By "age proofing" ...

Your thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated .... :)

What was the precise form of the said term copyrighted? Is it with or without the "-"

Lucky there's plenty of them outdoors ones around, you know, the ones that take over the local park every fine weather day. Hardly ever see 'em when it's raining, bunch of sooks.

Get down there with ya dart and foam roller GPJ, show 'em the over the "pipe fence" move.

I just like the ball flight so much more for approaches, but i dont really hit it that high to start with though i guess
