Guys and Gals

What things do you guys and gals do to help your club out?  are you just a golfer that just turns up pays for the game and then leaves ?  or do are just turning up having a game  has a whinge on things and leaves?

i know every club has these people

Today it was medal day  at my club  and the club asks its golfers to do a bbq for a morning or arvo session

well  Mrs OZ as you alot of you well know is a trooper and did alot of work for vic ooms registering us hacks as we turned up on a sunday morning.  Well, Cheryl is not a person that loves golf  but she understands the importance of helping out wether its her thing or not..

last night( friday)  at 9 30pm   she puts her hand up to do the monthly medal bbq for the arvo  as no morning player could do it...  but also whats more disturbing is there was a member of the club who is battling  full on Cancer and may not see tomorrow let alone next month put a full day day

in

I understand  we all have commitments  in life and some just want to rock up play golf and leave straight away

but why is it that the same ol same ol people do it time and time again

we have a bbq once a month and it only requires 2 people to do it  for a morning and arvo..  mornings are easily covered but we struggle to get people doing it in the arvo.....which normally means cheryl does it for the arvo players..(not fair)

i figured we have  70 strong members that play each saturday on reg basis would it be a bad thing if the club said ok its now compulsary that every member has to do the momthly medal bbq..  i  would think if ya  did it once on a compulsary rotation it would be near 2-3 years before ya had to do it again if not longer

so what do you also do to help ya club of choice out as a member

What are you doing whilst Chezza helps out Oz?

I'm in and out. Have a life, kids and a wife. I owe no one anything as it's my time.

Yeah, I don't play comp yet, but, use the course and facilities in exchange for my annual membership fees.

I get that some clubs are struggling and need some help, but, in my experience there is nearly always wastage in other areas. Inefficient people and process, pet projects of the committee, etc.

The wastage issue aside, a simple idea is an annual 'development fund' levy of, say $50 per member. Fund to only be used for course improvement. But, members can 'work off' the levy by, say, cooking the BBQ, or doing a 'working bee'. This concept works for school P&c's, sporting clubs, churches, etc.

Many will choose to just pay. Others, who wants to save the $$$ and have the time, will do the tasks. All balances out then.

Ghetto  , well i was playing golf but chez volunteered at the last moment if she didnt the arvo players would have missed out while the morning players all enjoyed the bbq courtesy of the arvo players.

i do a bit for my club i am the pennant bus driver, i help out with our monthly medal bbq's  i also occasionly do the courtesy bus when our regular drivers cant make it .  i must admit i have the time to help my club  as i dont  have kids

i do get peoples commitments etc,  i am not saying anyone owes anyone anything...

My old club had a BBQ every MM and the same people did it.   One day they couldn't do it and it never happened again.    My current "social" club have arranged 2 working bees in appreciation for Southern looking after our club so well.

I help my main club out by buying their overpriced drinks after each round, and they're thriving. I even called in there this arvo (after playing pennant for my other club) and helped consume (free) food and drink in celebration of their pennant season.

At my old club (the one I played for today), I spent many years on committee including five as pres, and still do their IT and web site. We don't have any car park players.
