On the up side, it's a sign that golf membership is starting to recover in Sydney. \

Hi,

I have started to look into joining a golf club. The only decent courses I have played in Sydney (NSW, St Michaels and Concord) all fall outside my primary criteria which is 30 mins from my house in the Chatswood area.

I have read some of the "Avondale vs Pymble vs Killara" and the where should I play "Elanora or Avondale or Terrey Hills" posts but they seem to be a bit older and I wonder if things have changed significantly.

I'm going to judge on:

- Proximity (30 mins)

- Quality of course (do I like it/do I want to play it often)

- Openness of club (I will know no one so I need the club/members to be welcoming to new members)

- Path for juniors for my kids should they continue to play (too young to join at the moment but keen)

- Business (I don't want it to be too busy that I can't get a game or 5+ hours when I do get a game)

Any thoughts – advice appreciated before I start progressing.

Have you ever thought of Long Reef? it would almost meet most of your criterias above

- Proximity (30 mins) - depends on the traffic, you may be able to get to Long Reef within 30 - 45 min from Chatswood

- Quality of course (do I like it/do I want to play it often) -  Long reef is voted 6th favourite course in Australia (according to their website), wind is a big factor there, so evry round is quite different depending on the the wind

- Openness of club (I will know no one so I need the club/members to be welcoming to new members) - you don't need to know a member to join, send them an email and they reply very promptly. However, if you can make to an open comp on Mondays, any member who plays with you on the day will be happy to sign your application form, it happened to me.

- Path for juniors for my kids should they continue to play (too young to join at the moment but keen), they have a decent junior program there.

- Business (I don't want it to be too busy that I can't get a game or 5+ hours when I do get a game), Saturday comps may be a bit harder to get a game but any other days are fine, most of my rounds there was under 4:30 hours

Hope this helps

I didn't think of those either. Pretty much all rolls are $5-6, so well priced as well.

PG did I mentioned that schooners are still under $5  :D

Shame it's such a long drive home.  Do they get all antsy about tents being erected at the end of the carpark adjacent to the 1st??
