All at the mercy with weather no doubt, and money. Always thought if you could combine woodfords layout and beerwahs greens it would be an awesome track

Way back in the 70's Woodford had the best (nine-hole) bent greens in Qld. The Associates used to do the Sunday catering for social clubs and did a fantastic job of it!

Ah.....memories of Sundays without the worry of drink driving laws.....tee off at 6:00, finish by 10:00, drink 'til 3:00, and dawdle home for a few more at your mate's place at Brendale for a few more, before making it to the northern suburbs.

Blissful, carefree days! ^_^

The problem with trying to rate underrated golf courses is that some are good layouts that are sometimes in fair to middling good condition - in the Brisbane area, think Gailes.

And, other courses outside the metro area that are reasonably priced, and decent layouts, that are at the mercy of the weather to be in their best shape - Bribie Island, Woodford and Middle Ridge come to mind - apologies to Turfy as I haven't played Caboolture since the '70's.

Agree with the aforementioned Ocean Shores, and Kooralbyn might climb the ladder if they keep spending the money - big if.

Of all the 'resort' courses, Lakelands gets my tick for consistently being in great shape, an interesting laylout, and reasonably priced.

If it's my home course or I've forked out to play in a tournament then I'm very critical of the conditioning. If I'm playing a course for the first time on holidays or just a weekly comp I tend to be more forgiving and appreciate the bones of the course.

I played Kooralbyn when it reopened and Tallwoods last year and the conditioning for both was terrible but they are such fantastic layouts and the green fees were discounted so my response is that I really enjoyed the experience.

Kooralbyn has improved heaps - greens particularly are schmick right now

Wouldn’t call it underrated though

North Stradbroke Island GC is a little gem- 9holes dual tees. Greens actually pretty good speed.

Easy

Royal Melbourne West

Off the Blue tees it has a slope rating of 131 and scratch rating of 72.

Whereas the home of custard Keysie

Off the Blue tests it has a slope rating of 131 and scratch rating of 74.

RM is vastly underrated by the GA experts.

And speaking of which, I have a few offerings to toss into the pile.

1. Trentham ..... A great country course, that apparently was rated by Golf Australia as value for money. It relies a fair bit on its members for its ongoing upkeep and maintenance, and is certainly a well designed fun course to play.

2. Thurgoona (Near Albury). Home of the annual Albury Jockey and Trainers Charity Golf day, and if you look closely on the honour board .... you may see a familiar name . (Circa mid 80's). Its a Thomson and Wolveridge design, its a cracker of a course to play, and is surrounded by old river gums in a very picturesque setting.

3. Tura Beach Country Club, NSW ....... The course combines both forest and beach, and horror of horrors, its another Thomson and Wolveridge job!! ( I didn't know that at the time of playing it) Great clubhouse too with stunning views over the ocean.

4. Half Moon Bay, (Yorkeys Knob, QLD) . A great little course, with some wonderful short par 4's. Former home to one of our very own I believe. Situated just a little north of Cairns, its well worth the drive. Being so close to the water, the wind is always a factor as is the tight layout.

:D

I reckon Cape Shanck stays under the radar a bit, shorter than most on the MP and has a some really fun and interesting greens.

St Andrews Beach is well underrated in my mind

Outside of ISG'ers, I rarely hear anyone else comment on it when talking about Mornington Peninsula tracks.

It's always been in good nick when I've played it and I enjoy the layout.

Always a pleasure to play there.

I need to get out and play it again. Not sure if it was because of the weather or because I was having an ok game (or both) but I honestly don't remember much about the course other than the "Club house" and the tee when the hail storm hit. Other than that I really don't remember much about the course.
