Should never have been changed.
This would remedy so much of the inequality issues for lower markers in comps.

The biggest gain would be, speed of play. Harder to line up the 8 for 1 in stableford when your out of strokes :)

Ah yes. A couple less short putts a round for a few players going to make ALL the difference.

This would guarantee IM/Dancer showdown for naga at EVERY OOM. Would also solve the issue of a smug IM after taking out the overall OOM win.

Not sure what that would achieve. It's pretty rare a 36 marker has a massive round. It's usually the bandits off 25 that come in with 8 over off the stick.

Regardless, dropping the handicap limit to 27 is only going to push those players floating around there away from the game.

Not exactly the outcome they are looking for with these changes.

Heaven forbid the people off 28-36 should practice and improve.

Then why stop at 27. Make it 18. No one should ever get 2 shots on a hole.

Anyone 19 or above should just practice more and improve right?

So there's a few rules under review or about to be changed soonish...whenever that is. Such as putting with the pin still in. Dropping from anywhere above the playing surface rather than shoulder high (ever noticed how many people drop from higher than the shoulder?). EDIT: Just read that this has been amended to knee high. Now that you think of it, the taller player has always been penalised more when dropping. Knee height included. Hmmm...(ps I'm not tall)

Divots....why should you be punished for someone else's previous shot? Surely you should be able to take relief from an unfilled divot? Stupid rule.

Clubs in bag. Sure, we've all played in a 3 or 5 club event. Had some fun and perhaps worked out how to play Golf instead of Golf swing. But why limit the amount of clubs in a bag to 14? Doesn't matter what club you have in your hands...you still have to make the decision which one and then hit the shot. You can only hit one club at a time. Shouldn't make any difference if you have 14 , 15, 16 clubs in your bag. With multiple wedges available now, hybrids, driving irons and Drivers, 3, 4, 5 etc woods in most people's bags...why not let people carry 1 or 2 more clubs?

There's probably a lot more rules that we'd like to change. Have at it...???

Re Divots,  if the rules were changed to allow a drop from a divot, watch the amount of unpaired divots increase x100.  It **** when it happens agree, but golf isn't about perfect surfaces a nor should it be.

Re: Clubs, considering the way the pro game is played now where long iron shots are nearly extinct (at least on par 4's) I'd be pushing for lowering the amount of clubs in the bag, think it may promote more creativeness and may reward more intelligent players.

I'd suggest anyone lower than 9 play off scratch in Stabelford Competition.

You forget that the older system was then less 3/4 or 5/8 of your handicap when playing club events. So a 20 handicap became 15 and so on !
And as for speeding up the game Toph, how often have you watched a 36 marker go from bunker to bunker, plus raking them or side to side and finally take care with their, then 2nd or 3rd putt to score a point ?

And that has since changed and we've moved on to better things.

What about women then? Should they be limited to 27 as well. If not, that kind of throws the whole speed of play argument out the window.

Unless you advocate that men and women should never play together.

Heaven forbid the people off 28-36 should practice and improve.

Many of those are already at the peak of their ability, with no further potential.
