Just had a lunch time hit at Riverside driving range in Ascot Vale, I used to go here quite often but it has really gone down hill.

The bays are cramped, the balls are completely dead (they feel like rubber Apollo's off the club), no on site office (had to go over to the pro shop) and at $11 for 50 balls it certainly isn't value for money.

Has anyone had any good/bad experiences lately with driving ranges around Melb. I am always partial to the Yarra Bend driving range, not cheap but at least you generally get decent balls also the old toilet block makes a great target to try and land on.

bacchus marsh driving range, have to walk a mile to get there, have to take ya own balls there  have to pick ya own balls up  have to walk back miles to get back to vechile, oh hang on i am putting my own clubs driving range  down , but i must say it is looking better these days since i first joined  and you usually get the range to ya self....   :D  :D  :D   seriously not a bad range  for what it is

hang on a minute hold ya self back oz,  its the best range in Bacchus Marsh as or nearest range is Eynesbury

hmmmm not really sure what is the worse  but i thought werribee range in hoppers crossing wasnt much chop when i lived in werribee  mats all worn and balls that was never much chop

the worst i have been to is the mountain highway driving range in recent times....only went there because he claimed to have a grassed tee which turned out to be a paddock out past the mat hitting bays....and i think it was $15+ for 100 balls...... heathmonth isnt flash either

Grownling Frog Driving Range. They use real balls found around the course and those that hit their own onto the range itself. Along with 2 chipping greens (1 undulated 1 flat) bunker and putting green it is hard to beat in the northern suburbs IMO.

Next would be kingsbury only for 2 reasons. Grass tees and open till around 8 or 9pm depending on time of year so allows me to get out after kids gone to bed.

Otherwise Plenty Views driving range.

Beyond those I am not sure of any others besides the OOM Days. Sandhurst was ok, Torquay Sands was another one that stands out.

I mentioned this in another thread recently but Skye driving range/pot cafe/safe injecting room/place to be relieved of your belongings, is certainly memorable, for all the wrong reasons.

I did go there once, and a bit like visiting Syria the locals were off chops I was very happy to leave in one piece.

Let's not even start on the actual mats, used carpet from the old Ambassador in Frankston that has been used as a bed/birthplace for 3 years would be an improvement.

Hitting of the 9th fairway is no fun with all those yellow balls lying around

yeah good point, probably I would be better off trying to hook one over there.  Pretty sure I've got a hook of that magnitude in me......

I'd back your hook over a favorable headwind any day. I have seen your hook. You are a good hooker. The best in all of kazakhstan

Right you are.

Phil Mickelson style lob wedges over your head.

Sandringham is quite tatty. No woods off the grass tees. Distance markers useless. Very windy on still days. Balls a total mixed bag of ancient and new.

Zero use when you're trying to tie down swings and distances.
