A good wine site for the $20-30 range is VINOMOFO.

They have some great "Black Market" deals. They don't advertise what the exact wine is but it's not difficult to work it out.

http://cellary.co/vinomofo/deals

Will let you know lots of them. Google will help with the rest if you have time.

Out of your range but the current deal is St Hallett Old Block Shiraz 2014 for $70 instead of $100. They say $120 but that's a porkie.

Quite often get some nice Heathcote Shiraz in your range. At least once a month they have free freight which is when I buy.

In answer to OB and others. Not so long ago it used to be that you could get a really good Aussie wine for $15. Sadly, it's gone to $25

Upnin started this by stating he has budgetry constraints and went on to claim a $26 bottle was ok.

Try being a pensioner !

Aldi has some drinkable shiraz that could get me pissed long before $26 runs out.

You can drink sewerage water too, also cheap, but tastes like sh1t!

Agree Mouldy. $25 at Dans is the minimum for a drinkable wine. Occasionally you can pick up some local Yarra Valley wine for $20 when its on special.
If you are on a Pension you probably should be drinking water and growing your own.

Another tip to those trying to acquire a nice collection without spending a fortune.

I received a dozen today that comprised a $100 Barolo ($180 rrp) and 11 other very drinkable wines. The Barolo goes away for at least 4 years by which time it will be 10yo. Just starting on the rest and the first one, chosen at random, is a $20 wine IMO.

Lots of online retailers put out similar deals.

Last night I had the pleasure of number 2 grandson and his girlfriend come over for dinner. They love good food and wine so I turned it on with some Antonio Carluccio specials.

The main dish was a rare Fillet steak with some rustic vegetables which needed a perfect partner.

I opened a 2007 Giovanni Manzone Castelletto Barolo in the morning and decanted it. It's still relatively young so needed time to soften the tannins.

It was definitely my wine of the year and I've tasted more than 100 already.

Barolos are expensive but they're not known as the King of Italian wines for nothing. Treat yourself, give it at least 10 years in the bottle and plenty of breathing time.

It's worth saving up for and living longer.

The thing about the Barolo is that you don't need a lot of it. It's a wine to savour not quaff. Over the night I had a lot less than at a normal dinner party. That's the thing about exceptional wines.
